  1. Hi Hooky Remember the day when you last came out on Fisheagle and fished with lures? I have now got mine all together now hanging on several pieces of board. I suspect from your pictures that I have a few diamonds amonst them. Your postings have encouraged me to try out a few from my spinning days for pike, perch and Zander as well as a few trout and bass. Looking forward to learning more next time you come out.A really good read Allan.
  2. 1) Neal - not sure which boat.......yet! 2) Allan-Fisheagle-subject to weather/crew confirmation.
  3. Looking more like Thursday for us at at the moment. Saturday is also looking promising. Hoping there are a few bream about. Allan.
  4. Awesome, hate to think what would have happened if it had hit the Yak. Almost on a par with Tony's Bay Monster earlier in the season! Allan.
  5. No as bad a story, but while drifting for Plaice by the nearest Funucular/Cable Car lift, some 250 yards off shore and to the west of the Head, there seems to be a sand bar that is running along the coast. On the plotter it seemed to rise from around 25 ft to around 8ft. and then drop off again to around 16ft at an angle of 45 degrees. Caused a few moments of consternation. Also, the East Looe Channel seemed a few feet shallower on the last neaps (4/5 feet) and, if my plotter is correct, the nothern edge of Hook Sands seems to have come some 20 to 30 yards closer to the shore and infilled the North Looe Channel by a couple of feet. A couple of Banks near the 50/50's and off Swanage also seemed to have gone/levelled off. I suspect that we will be finding that a few other marks/features in the Bay have been changed by the storms. Allan.
  6. I am always keen to support Juniors as they are the Club's future. Fisheagle can be made available, ideally not on the day of the Bream Comp. More than happy to supply a "Goody Bag" of tackle items and Wessex Tackle voucher to a total value of around £ 40/50 or if prefered a smaller "Goody Bag" to all Juniors who are involved. Best of luck in getting things moving Sam, it seems there is a lot of support out there.
  7. Would hope to get out Wednesday or Thursday. Again with Rich S. and John Stephenson, but this time on Kelly's Hero which is overdue for a run out due to John's foot problem. Allan.
  8. Thanks for the friendly banter Charlie, I appreciate that your tax contributions could be seen to be subsidising us old farts and there are a lot of us in the Club. Hope that Otter is able to say hello. Allan.
  9. As Thursday looks the best day this week Fisheagle will be heading out with myself, John Stevenson and Rich S. We have waited long enough and intend to try three different types of fishing. Some Plaice fishing, some bottom fishing for Rays etc. and a couple of marks that have produced early Bream. Hopefully, at least one of them will give us something to go towards the species count. Will be on Ch 6 if anyone else is out. Allan.
  10. Was thinking of going over to the Shambles soon and have several dates pencilled in. Spoke to couple of people last night and someone in Weymouth and little is being caught. I was even told that the mussel beds could have gone (Destroyed in storms?). Has anyone heard anything else? May get out locally on Thurdsay or Friday if the weather holds. Allan.
  11. Worth a look. As you say, the 50 hp engine 2 or 4 stroke? Could well be underpowered for fishing outside the Harbour. Allan.
  12. Don't know a lot about them, but there seem to be different patterns. We used to see a lot on Fisherman's Wharf near the Old Lifeboat Station in Poole .I have looked quite closely at some of them and wondered if it was worth putting a few down during a fishing session for lobster/crabs and even livebait. I suspect we have the odd member who may be able to offer more assistance. Would be interested to see what you come up with.
  13. Sounds like you may be taking up a new sport after the last few trips on Fisheagle. Trevor ( Pathfinder) has a 4 wheel trailor. I am sure it could be made available as a back up to the other offers if needed. Allan.
  14. Still OK for a lift Dave? Many Thanks. Allan.
  15. Could be wearing the Club Logo somewhere on his front? Allan.
  16. Hi Stuie A similar story from us, small plaice, but towards Southbourne on the drift. Lots of nets down there now. Small pins and nothing else on the Patch although,. where we wanted to go was potted off. A bit disappointing on the species front. It was a lovely day to be out and we all returned with a touch of sun burn. The highlight of the day was a rescue exercise involving a training lifeboat, three inshore ribs and a helicopter picking up and dropping of crew. Two other things I have found out tonight which are not related to our day which may be of interest to people, is that there was a "Mayday" and Lifeboat launch as boat took it's leg off on the harbour wall along Poole Quay while turning and started to sink. Secondly, that Jan Triska made the right decision by not coming out with us today as he caught a 12lbs. 7ozs.bass on his boat well to the west of Poole, which puts our meagre catch to shame! Allan.
  17. Everything ready and sandwhiches made. Like yourself, have a concern about the fog. Keeping everything crossed. Allan.
  18. Have managed to get John Stevenson of "Kelly's Hero" to come out for a ride. He hasn't been out since summer and his mobility is limited as he is still has several months of recuperation after his foot operation. We intend to have a relaxing day and if we get a bit of sunshine, a spotty and a few other species to add to the count we will have had a good day. Will no doubt talk on Ch 6. Allan.
  19. Can't make Wednesday but could manage Thursday. Nothing too strenuous, perhaps try the Patch/Soutbourne and then drifting from the ferry to Bournmouth to see if there are a few plaice about. Will depend on the weather and hopefully, some informative information from those out on Wednesday. Just a nice few hours out in the bay hopefully, with some sun and a few fish.Crew required if anyone interested. Allan.
  20. Tony May be worth giving Mick Pike a call (Marechelle). He was originally coming with me, but due to a communication problem I am now full. Not sure if he still wants to go. Allan.
  21. Is anyone out this Sunday or next week if the weather holds? Neaps so thinking of about 5 or 6 miles out and then maybe off Swanage and if time, a few drifts for plaice. Has anyone heard any recent reports from Charters/other boats? Allan.
  22. I have one of these and several spare spools. It was very good in it's day and was, I believe the first fixed spool to cast over two hundred yards. Compared to today's reels, the spool is deep and narrow and the retrieve is slow. It is well engineered, but the later models were, in my opinion, pretty cheap and nasty and sold, if I remember correctly for 30 plus pounds. If it was an original French made one, then it may be of interest to a collector or someone who likes using traditional gear, I don't think it is of any great value, it is a shame, as it could have cost someone a lot of money in it's day. That's what I think without looking it up so I stand to be corrected.
  23. Fisheagle will be venturing out for a short trip on Saturday, mainly to blow the cobwebs away and to check every thing is OK after a few months ashore. Can't see any real fishing being done and will be keeping a sharp eye out for debris. Roll on some decent weather. Allan.
  24. Great news, see you out there soon. Allan.
