    Anchor

Seriously Jim - I have 2 anchors - one 5kg bruce - for normal use! I don't have the miles of chain, but enough to be more than 5KG (prob 7kg)and keep the anchor at the buoy on retrieval! (so weight rather than length!) I also keep a folding 5KG bruce onboard for emergencies. I guess the scenario is, you cut your rode as anchor stuck - so head in, engine issue and you need your anchor to stop you drifting in to rocks \ traffic - where is you anchor? Also, a second anchor can be deployed to stop sway when at anchor in shallows, i.e. the harbour. Rob

Yep - 5kg and you really need 2 for safety - just incase hurricane Issac goes down your drive!!
  4. Any good: http://www.tidetimes.org.uk/warsash-tide-times-20120801
  5. Someone was having a laugh! or you were using mono or mega heavy \ poor quality braid \ rope! If I remember, in May we drifted a wreck on Alfresco in Hurds deep - I had asked Charlie if the wreck was just off the deeps and in the "shallower" water. He advised it was! So we came across the 170m deepest bit to the "shallows" of 101m!!!! Where we drifted a wreck, and i had to change me reel as i didn't have enough braid, but we were bouncing on the bottom with 10oz. Rob
  6. Jon, Charlie C does - see previous post. Rob

  8. I would suggest you can't now it now as it is too close, unless there is a very bad forecast! To postpone now when the outlook is actually good would be madness!!!! Do Bass like planes and not feed as they are watching the display? With any bass comp it will be won before a plane takes to the sky ;o) Rob
  9. The Garmin that Steve is offering is still available, I believe!!

I would never make a joke regarding another mans pussy. (joking aside, a lost pet is like family and would be esp bad with kids) Rob

  15. For a Mudeford launch you probably want 0.75m of tide to go out against the flow. Now..........here is the (multiple) BUT! If there is high pressure this can effect it - not by much but it can depend whether you are going with or against the tide. If the bar moves (from some heavy swell) there could be a requirement for more water in the run. Depending what the tide is doing can dictate as to whether you can get out the run. If you are"going with the flow" then no problem, if you are against the flow on a big tide in either direction (Ebb worse obviously as the 2 rivers are emptying at the same time) you can struggle as you may have to lift your prop and then you can't get any\enough speed! (take my word for this!, a member has also smashed a gearbox trying the "I can plane through that" approach) There is a cost to launch if the hut is open - usually 8am I believe. (I nearly had a heartattack when he arrive at 05:30 one morning, luckily he was going fishing before work!). There is no cost to retrieve, so feel free to come back in any time without cost. The parking is expensive - I paid

    New Boat

Nice one Jim! Though i would be a little concerned about the difference in height of the winch and the eye on the boat! That will put huge strain on the eye, so go get a proper height winch post! Rob

  19. May have to anchor at slack to look for big Rays Charlie Now you're talking Charlie!!!!! Maybe drop those spaghetti Daiwa rods and use something proper!!
  20. IOW banks a good choice as you can go with the tide then return with a push too! Rob
  21. Film! Bl00dy Hell Brian, showing your age! If it was film Ben would be sending the pic though next August!!! Cracking pic mind! Maybe Daiwa would be interested? Rob
  22. I would start with livies on floats on a ledge near to home! Even pop round to st albans, if the well is not to large - perhaps portland rig and give the SW banks a go on the way round. Let us know how you get on!?
  23. Now you have ruined the weather Oli, thanks! I will be our Sat AM with a newbie, trying to get at the minimum mackerel!!!!! Then maybe try for a Mr Spikey, but we shall see how the weather is, sea state and how tough my crew is! Rob
  24. 3lb a week is probably enough, but i do understand that 3lb a day will stop professional diggers - though, i am sure they pay their taxes and insurances as we would all expect!
