    Boat insurance

Dom, What is your experience of people like Porthcawal? I thought their liability for underwater gear was horrendous, little cover and to me it seems like one of the easier parts of a craft to damage! Rob
  2. Neal, I have found Mardon very reasonable and flexible. I know it doesn't help, but if you had discussed with them the situation before the event, they may well have amended your policy to suit. I did contact them before purchasing my wheel clamp and asked if it needed to be Sold Secure rated, but they advised it didn't. I have also fitted a Data Tag kit which has RF id's all over the place and stickers and marker fluid for electronics (and the registration number on the bow - as per on all JetSkis). They have amended my policy to cover my boat being on the water overnight when I take her on holiday. The "standard \ normal" policy wouldnt cover it, but after discussion their MD advised they would at no extra charge and amended my documents. I can't ever see that happening with car insurance companies! I guess the devil is in the detail, much like, many home insurance policies state that you need to have 5 lever mortice lock that conforms to BS3621!
  3. Ling? What makes you think that? Last years trip to Portland:
  4. When I had battery issues that looked like a faulty regulator!!! I started the outboard from my car with jump leads - this the proved the output to the battery was ok and teh battery was faulty. is this an option for you??
  5. Craig - all you need to know is "Follow Wight Magic"!!!
  6. Flat battery or bad connection at engine end I would guess. There is a guy who is mobile, Charlie A and Mike02380 have used him. HTH, Rob

    Wishin update

Nige, How can you increase the cooling \ raw water excahnge? What is the setup on Wishin? I assume it doesn't pump raw sea water round the block. So bigger pump for more flow? Better \ more efficient pickup? Bigger does not mean better! Ensure stat is working correctly! Does it need one? With the warm up Wishin gets on the pontoon and the pootle through the harbour, maybe it could be removed? Re. engine bay cooling - (infor from our product engineers from work, who previously had issue with kit overheating) - hot air extraction is nowhere near as good as forcing air in, and on to the hotter areas! At work they had issues and extracting air has the potential to pull cooler air in and blow it straight out again. How can you reduce engine load? Weight reduction? or try to ensure you are trimmed at optimum for conditions? Can you tell this by fuel economy (less fuel used to maintain speed mst mean less load on the runnign gear)? Rob

    Wishin update

Outboard brackets can be fixed or hydraulic in their own right - something to consider?: Inedently, the sports boat I was on last weekend, had a engine bay fume extracation system that ran before starting the egine and whilst running.

  12. Dave I looked at a few sites, a couple were as you report and a couple were 10-12mph all the way. However colder than we would hope!!! I guess until next wekk we need to sit on our hands as far as weather forecasts are concerned! Here's hoping, fingers crossed, Rob

  18. If she is on a trailer - try BHG MArine in Lymington. Warsash Marine if you are prepared to go some distance. Rob
  19. Sounds to me like an illegal setup for towing, so a new trailer or midification might be required. With a hull of 550kg + 100kg engine and the trailer that would be well over the 750kg legal unbraked towing limit. With anchors, warp, fuel and basic gear it is prob nearer a 1000kg! OK if kept in a yard for launching i guess.
  20. Well done Trev and Derek. Nice you see you (both) doing your bit for help the aged!!!
  21. I think welding galvanised material gives off txic fumes. And you end up with a non galvanised part! Mike (whomightdoweldingbutiamnotsure) might be able to advise. Rob
