I thought you normally used rubber hooks in aid of conservation Jim, so that shouldn't be an issue!

    Bow Thruster

"Thanks folks, I went Max Power in the end, with a 80kg thruster, around 7HP, which is needed to bulldoze over 10 tons sideways against any stiff breeze." I thought you were only moving the water around the craft as the "weight" is held by the water. So you are just pushing the water so it is more about surface area under the surface. No doubt a wise investment Mike and it only takes avaoidance of a little bump to pay for itself. Can you use it to slow the turbot drifts on the banks? Rob

  17. From Steve Porter on True Blue posted today on Facebook: "Update 17th May 2017 Just returned from our first four day trip to Alderney of the year during which challenging conditions at times tested the boat and crew. Our trip over on Sunday was in a forecast fresh westerly wind but the sea state was much less than expected and the skies were blue. The boat had no problem maintaining a 20 knot cruising speed throughout. The catch rate was below par, probably due to the May bloom which appeared to be everywhere. One wreck did provide a steady stream of Pollack, but we left that mark in search for what for us, seem to be very illusive Cod. Day two and quite rough conditions on the banks around Alderney. A fairly strong tide and at times fresh wind resulted in a consistently fast drift for most of the day. Just 13 Turbot and Brill landed but several nice Bass saved the day. Plenty of Launce on the banks. Day three and our best weather day. Light winds and reasonably warm, but the fishing was again below par. Just 10 flatfish landed, a couple of Bass and a bonus Sunfish. Day four and a lovely calm sea to travel back to Poole on. Sadly though, it rained for most of the day. Still, better to have rain than wind. Good fishing on our first mark which was consistent with plenty of Pollack, several Bass and one lone Cod. As we moved closer to home our catch rate slowed and we were only able to add more Pollack to the catch. The cod eluded us again. Overall though, a good day with more than enough fish that brought to an end a very enjoyable four days in some great company."
  18. I have replaced the batteries in my 10yr old Berkeleys a couple of weeks ago. They have been accurate and great. Adam just bought a new set, seem good too. £20 v £55 for the ones Neal is mentioning. And the Berkeley ones are much smaller. R
