    JoJo Out West

    .
  3. So, anothe Autum, and JoJo heads west with Adam as crew. We went to Plymouth this time, a first. Been to Dartmouth, Mylor Falmouth and Mullion Lizard before. I wanted to see the Eddystone, I think.it.is iconic. We had scoped out a slip, as Adam I and were in Plymouth a few months ago looking at a Cheeta Cat for JV replacement (it did not become the actual replacement). Where can you got with 2 super wide and accessable slipways with free parking? AWESOME! We headed down Thursday pm, to a questionable campsite, but, it was convenient! Friday we headed out with plenty of burley and frozen bait. We launched and headed to Eddystone in the fog. Could not see it for ages, then it appeared put of the mist, having heard it for most of our journey. Featherd some macs (to 1lb6oz), tiny fish busting ther surface, oil flat sea, amazing. We used the electric outboard for some movement, as wind and tide were near non-existent, and holding us still as working against each other. We many interactions with dolphins, saw (mostly heard) whales, all day and a single blue. Hearing dolphins on or tuna was a game, what would appear from the mist..... could be either. Great scenes of both!!! Day two was similar, but much better vis. Dolphins, tuna, whales (minke), awesome, what a trip for the wildlife alone! No sharks, I said to Ad, we have had them as packing up before. Reeled in a couple of rods, I saw a shoal of 100 2" fish moving behind the boat. We'd seen these earlier you but not in such formation , I the. Noted, they are following a small blue. it then took a pollack we had chucked in fromntje coolbox of macs.game on last call. Again, nothing big, but welcome. Weather was awesome, good company, what more could we have had? Superb. R

    LED lighting

If it doesn't work forst time, remember that some (not all) led bulbs have to be wired the correct way around. So, just switch the + & - around. R

Go 5kg Bruce and chain. Chain "length of boat" is a guide, but it need to weigh more than anchor, to help with Alderney ring lifting, so get 6kg of chain. Set it all up to trip, and you'll be golden. Perhaps we can pop out one evening and do Alderney practice? R

Strange mate, small tide yesterday! Were you on the secret mark? How much lead? What line? How big were your baits? Huge baits will catch the tide more. If your rods are bumping the lead up and down, let out more line and fish slacker, again, might need more lead. Sometimes you need to let it hop back a bit to get a bow in the line and reduce the bounce. R

Don't mention the hot smoked mackerel caught in the morning Mal, that wouldn't be fair! R
  20. Well, maybe I get a few more in, but it doesn't feel like it!!! Alun was taking Adam as JV was in need of a filter housing before heading over the channel. And I was stuck with a car that had failing tow electrics.........so, Friday pm fettle, got them working, there was a loose connection found and sorted! A mate from work wanted to go on this last minute adventure, but was a last minute letdown, invite rescinded. Now to get her ready. She hadn't moved since July last year and that was after a tow in! So this was a shake down after a thermostat clean and waterway acid treatment. Namely as we got blown off last year's shark trips to Cornwall. Today was ideal with Gastronaught as "AA" rescue (AlunAdam). So, met them at the slip, I head off 20 mins later, then back to slip as left mobile on trailer mudguard!!! Macs were hard to find, but got a few and some for the Club BBQ tonight. I managed a couple of lovely bass 5:6 and 4:14, hooked up within 10 seconds of each other. Fun on 15-40g spinning rods and floats! One rod between knees and the other in hand, so, one rod in holder and wind when looked slack, but let's focus and get one to the net. Ended up with both, so that was good. Missed another couple and had one follow my bait to the boat 3 times, but just would. not take! Strange fog, mist, sun, cloud mix all morning, but no rain! All done by 12 and I didn't need AA assistantance, so met them at the slip just after 12, home by one and all was well for a shakedown run before sharking adventures in September. Apart from...........jockey wheel snapped as I pulled her on to the drive! If that is the worst of it, I'll take it! It was rusted and the walls had gone terribly thin. Better now than in Cornwall! R
