  2. i changed down to a 1/0 (the smallest i had, other than some of those toy crab line ones... tempting) trace length??? Dan
  3. good day then! you should have tried eating the thornback! there great baked! gut it 1st, like an hourglass around the body, put the wings in cling film in the fridge for a day take it out, wash off the goo (ammonia), then skin each wing (you will need pliers..) then put it in fresh cling film and leave it in the fridge for another 2days! then enjoy baked in the oven with capers! 1 wing is enough for 2 people so a 7lber is for 4 people! its important that you let it 'hang' or leave it in the fridge, as this gets all of the ammonia out of the flesh, which wouldnt taste too good! Dan p.s. pliers are a definate must, as the skin is SOOOO tough!
  4. thanks for the help guys! ill definately keep on trying! as for different tactics ive made a 3boom thingymajig to try next time, with 1/0's, so hopefully that will catch anything other than weedfish! alun - if youre getting nibbles, but no hookups, would you say it would be better to move after the hour or so, or stick to? Dan
  5. out today for anything that would bite a hook, took absolutely ages to get 4 maccy around poole patch, then over to the training bank, where we anchored inshore. bites on maccy fillets on 3/0 hooks, but no fish, so changed down to 1/0's, and still no success! then tried drifting down the bank back to the harbour with a dexter wedge and a rapala, still no luck! then tied up to the john lewis buoy, with a rapala going and maccy chunks on 1/0's, the occasional nibble, but no bites! finally to end the day we did a couple of drifts between the brownsea piers with a dexter wedge again, but caught nothing but weed! and lots of it! however the day did bring some questions for me... 1 ) whats the best way to hook an ammo frozen sandeel? and on what hooksize? (i tried the way they showed, on a 1/0, but it looked really bad....) 2) where are the fish lol Dan 2 ) where are the fish :{
  6. nice catch! was that near b'mouth pier? out tomorrow for the bass, but not too sure where... Dan

  8. where abouts were you trolling through the maccy mike? on sunday going through poole patch, we were getting strings full of jumbos! however today there was apsolutely zilch! Today: out fishing on tank rock with a friend, fish very sparse, but good species, with maccy, ballan wrasse, black bream, ?lighter? bream, trigger fish, pout and pollack! also caught a 11lb conger in one of our lobster pots! i kinda realised it was a conger as it was a haouge chunky thing wriggling around in the net, and was dropped straight back to the drink! Dan
  9. thinking of going out to c.church ledge tomorrow (monday) if the weather is as good as it was today (touch wood), just wondering if anyone else is out! any tips for fishsing the ledge? im targeting.... fish though a bass would be good! Dan
  10. All morals aside, remeber that they are WAY bigger than you, and have much less manouverability. also even if you can see them from miles away, they may not be able to see you (being an incy puny boat), so will only have a short time to move! also dont they have to follow set routes (par emergencies) that are all waypointed for insurance / safety purposes? i.e. uncharted rocks away from their path. Dan
  11. superb pics there cascars! and a great catch for both chartiy events! dreamily floating away .... Dan
  12. just below where you type your message, theres a 'browse' button, press it and then find the pic on your comp! its got to be smaller than 128 k, so you may want to use paint to resise it! Dan

  22. photos off my dads phone! sorry about the poor direction finding, due to the speed of an arrow, and the sun making it impossible to see the screen, it was point, shoot and hope exercise! (i also have some 3gp format videos (low qual) which i can send !) Dan Paul - its not letting me upload jpegs (155kb each) HELP!
  23. xray mark? i was using fairly light tackle (not sure the specifics, as i was using a borrowed rod), 4 me it shot off as soon as it bit, then once i tightend the drag it barely moved, until it broke the surface n did not want to go in the net! Dan
  24. did it fight? or was it like pulling a dustbin lid from the depths? (as my first (and only ) ray was! - 7lb thornback). Sweet catch for the lame conditions! Dan
