Sorry if Im missing something obvious that stops this... But what stops you recovering using the alderney ring (to get the anchor to the surface), then using the windlass to pull the "slack" in? Surely it will recover a lot faster without the weight of chain and anchor hanging vertically below it, as this will be supported by the buoy? Dan

Looking at the forecast to join hopefully.... What do you think of the tides for fishing the Needles? Good time-wise to have flow throughout the day, but will the water speed be too great? or need massive leads? Advice please! Hope you all had a good xmas! Dan

I brought a cheap one off Jerry's Fishing to try in Croatia, I cant see what difference an expensive one would be to justify the price increase! I would imagine that if you have success Pirking, that these would also have some success.... however Ive never caught anything off one, (and never tried it in the UK...) though we never catch fish... But cant hurt to have something else to fiddle with on a slow day! Dan

Paul, Sorry to hear about the theft - I cant imagine how you must feel! Whilst at home I regularly help out in the Poole Harbour Watch program, and really feel that this is the only way we can stop the thieving scum... Could you perhaps chain from your mooring buoy? (though bolt cutterable..) or a way to immobilise the engine when you are not there? The problem with an alarm, is the size of poole harbour, and the lack of any next door neighbour to report anything , though it may startle someone... I hope it gets sorted okay with the insurers!
