  7. Good writeup Tom! Currently waiting for the tide to come in and cover the sill to get in - should be about 9.15 tonight! So far it seems you havent missed much on the fishing front! Spent the first day drifting the great bank - just outside of st pp, dragging Mackerel fillets, to no avail ! Knew we were in the right place, As loads of local boats around! Yesterday morning went to guernseys only tackle shop ( strangely inland) there they seemed shocked that we wernt catching anything! But it was clear others were buying live sandeels for Bass, so we followed suit. We then waited an hour for the bus, missing any chance of an early start!! Armed with livebait, we managed one bass of 3.5lb and a smaller pollack and have also found out that the mackerel seem to prefer the tiny sandeel lures, which have so far caught sandeel, launce, horse mackerel (I think - will check when home) and mackerel. Today tried catching some sandeel for bass, which took a while, and nothing much was obliging for a days fishing - pretty dissapointing really! Due some stronger winds for the next few day's, so restricted to land based activities - hopefully the fishing will pick up after!! Dan
  8. im Game if the weather is flat, and im not working!! think i might be a bit out gunned on our gear, but oh well! Dan
  9. Nice one mate! with a haul like that, you clearly havent seen a "hard day" on our boat! haha Dan
  10. Similar suggestions to the others really! only to add: Drifting / trolling around the piers for mackerel, troll up the training bank for an elusive bass when the tide is flowing out Good luck!
  11. I would but im busy

  17. okay, we will keep a listen out on ch6 for you! As the weather is looking flat, is anyone up for going to the Brittle Star banks??? Though a bit unsure, as yet to hear of anyone else fishing it successfully this year :S Dan
  18. Hey, Wondering if anyone's out tomorrow as the weather looks pretty good!! Thinking of heading for a drift on dolphin sands, then maybe to a bank a bit further if unsuccesful! Anyone up for a Buddy boat if you have similar plans??? Dan
  19. Ahh well that explains the facebook messages!! Still beats sitting in gridlock on the M25, then having the M1 shut on you! And for a similar amount of fuel!!!! Better luck next time! Dan
  20. Ahh, so as long as chain weight > anchor weight, your okay!
  21. Guys, if you are using the alderney method, AND a tripped anchor, surely the chain and rope will slide back down? We dont trip the anchor, and once buoyed, the shaft of the bruce anchor keeps it in the ring below the buoy. Just curious! Dan
  22. Oh, and was able to get this nice photo on the way back!
  23. Smoothhound?
  24. Went out on wednesday afternoon to fish the Ebb of the tide on the Patch for some bream! After a slow start, ended up with 15ish bream between the two of us, one pretty decent sized (but not very tasty ) garfish, and what i THINK are small smoothounds - verification please! (if so - our first on Aqus!) Interestingly, one of our rods seemed to hook up to a bream every time a mackerel line was jigged near it... perhaps imitating a shoal of fish helped? As it was a brilliantly flat day, we slowly motored in, trolling the bass lures, and caught 6 decent sized mackerel, with a bass off Hook Sands to end the day which we retuned! A pretty good day! Dan
