Hi Brian Yes, sorry I did not hear you as I was opening her up to test all the repairs I have carried out. Seems you did well in catching four species to add to your tally, it does not take long to creap up the table. I have been trying to find a good ray mark all year, my usual one seems to be barren and they have moved on to somewhere new Dave

Hi Brian I would confirm Common Goby, I think you will find the Black Goby is differant shadding but the next nearest is the Rock Goby and both Rock and Common can be hard to identify exactly. Have a look at this site http://www.sealordphotography.net/Nature/G...#97281985_wMqbc which shows the head picture of both Rock and Common Goby Dave

Terry At least it wasn't cradle snatching! Dave

Well the good news is I have got the alternator back It seems there was a number of problems, the brushes worn, recifier blown, wire broken and oil contamination. I have yet to get down on the boat to re-fit it but I am sure that will be the easier bit! Dave

Hi Grahame Been on that site and very informative it is too. Found out and got a lot of ideas about boats and stuff, would recommend it to anyone. http://www.tb-training.co.uk/ Dave

Hi Dan Just had a thought (came hard I know) why not have a look for the U bolts that hold leave springs on cars and trucks? These are normally long and wide and have a flat plate which bolts over the axle similar to older transits, minibus etc. Might be worth a trip to a scrap yard to see what makes and sizes are available unless you know someone in the motor trade. Just a thought Dave

Hi Paul Minutes of the 2007 AGM are still on the web site http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=7229 for the 2008 minutes look here http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=7561 Club constitution is here http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=7230 Regarding the 3 hook rule I sent a proposal in but it was amended and agreed by your good self. The constitution only advises that there is a minimum of two people on a boat. What did surprise me was the low number of views for the minutes of meetings and AGM's. I personally would like to see kayaks included into the club as I feel it would make the club stronger, attract more members and may even bring improved fishing skills which can be passed on to other club members. I do think however that there would be a need for a kayak owner to be on the committee so that, "that" group of members can have their voices heard at committee level, they may well hold another post as well. I don't see any problem in kayaks fishing our club competitions with the proviso of a minimum of two kayaks fishing within, say, 250yrds of each other for safety reasons. After all we are the Poole Bay "Small Boats" Angling Club Dave

Hi all Well the saga continues! The bulb is ok, was hoping it had blown as cheaper option. Lamp circuit ok so it looks like the alternator has failed. Took it down to a Bosch auto electrics to see if it can be fixed and/or cost. My problem is that it is not the orginal alternator that normally comes with the engine as it has been uprated and it has a tap off for the rev counter (W terminal). Oh well, when it is fixed I might be able to get out again. Whilst on the boat I replaced the rocker cover gasket as I noticed that was leaking, so while I was at it I checked and ajusted the tappets. So with any luck I might be getting there. Dave

Hi Rob If you get the chance it might be worth a trip over to Weymouth to JG Technologies as they have a great deal of equipment there and he supplies a number of the charter fleet. He has a web site and as you will see the prices are very competitive. http://www.jgtech.com/webshop.htm Maybe worth a telephone call to see what he has on display so you can see it working. Dave

It appears that "Gilbert" the whale has passed on to the other side. He was found dead at Alum Chine today (Monday) Dave

Hi all I was out on the boat today testing the replacement oil lines etc. when I noticed that there was no charge going on and the Rev counter was not working. It was working ok before I left the mooring. Now I have had a look on a web site about charging problems and they suggest that if the red warning light bulb has blown it stops charging. My question is would the rev counter stop as well if the bulb has blown? When I turn the engine off and then get it ready to start the red lamp does not light up. I suspect that the brushes may have worn out but do we have any auto electrians in the club that could suggest an alternitive solution? Anyone with more suggestions? Dave

I am always amazed by what you guys catch! I suppose you will be after stingrays soon or go up to scotland and get a common skate or two! Great pictures keep them coming. Dave
-
Hi Mark Well done on the J/Dory looks a nice fish. Never tried to eat one what are they like? It must have been good to get out despite the fishing. Keep the reports coming. Dave

Nice one Colin Should be a nice stable craft suitable for some of the conditions we seem to get more often these days. I am sure the time will pass quickly and think of all the brownie points you can earn before she arrives. I expect there will be a small comp as to who can bring the first fish aboard, I lay odds it will be Bobbi, women seem to be able to catch fish better than us at times. Well done and congrats on the new purchase. Dave

Hi John Sounds good that you have found somewhere to keep the boat. At least you will be able to get out as and when you want and not be dependant on tides. Look forward to reports of the volume of fish coming over the side! Dave ps don't forget to tell me where they are!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Colin Hope you have a good one and manage to get out on your boat. Dave
-
Hi Alan Welcome to the club. I am sure you will get plenty of help and advice from club members, just ask away. This should be a good time of year to get out and find some of those "secret" marks and see what you can get out. As I say, if you need help advice just ask away. Dave

HAPPY BIRTHDAY James Hope you have a good one and get a free pass to go fishing! Dave

Southampton Boat Show Is anyone going or has been? Is it worth it? Dave

Without trying to highjack this thread, when deploying two anchors, how do you tighten up on the stern one to stop it draging and make sure it digs in? If you pull in on the front warp you will loose position I am sure it is obvious but it is a bit late. Dave

Hi Found this list and thought it useful; If you want to use alternatives to other proprietary boat care products, some of them arguably more environmentally friendly or safer to handle, try these: Product - Alternative Bleach - Borax Detergent & Soap - Holystone & hard work Scouring powder - Baking soda, or rub area with half a lemon dipped in borax, then rinse General cleaner - Baking soda and vinegar, or lemon juice mixed with borax paste Floor cleaner - One cup of vinegar in 8 litres of water Window cleaner - One cup of vinegar in 2 litres of water, rinse and squeegee Aluminium cleaner - 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar in 2 litres of hot water Brass cleaner - Worcester sauce, or paste made of equal amounts of salt, vinegar and water Fibreglass stain remover - Baking soda paste Mildew remover - Paste of equal quantities of lemon juice and salt, or white vinegar and salt Dave
