Adam I have a trot mooring, i.e. moored at both ends of the boat, as has been said it can be a pain getting a dingy out each time. It is also a drying mooring so you need to watch the times to get out and in! Swinging moorings are ok as well but some can be near traffic and it is not unknown for unskilled owners to "clip" other boats on their way in or out. Drying moorings are always cheaper for obvious reasons but may do summer seasons so the cost is not so great when you pull the boat out in October. You may well have to anti-foul the hull which is a pain unless you again pull the boat out regularly and give it a jet wash down. Have a look on the Harbour web site for names of those who might have moorings available. The nearer the chain ferry the more expensive especially if it is a deep water mooring. Also things become very "nickable" on some moorings Dave

Hurrah Lady C is back in the water and seems to work ok. We launched at 11.30 on Sunday allowing an extra hour of water to come in just in case we had any problems. None occured and she floated off the trailer without a hitch. Engine started first time and the recon outdrive worked as it should have done. In fact it did seem a lot smoother proberly due to a now balanced reconditioned prop thanks to Prop Solutions. A quick trip down to the ferry terminal just to check her out but due to conditions it was not the time to give it a good work out. Back onto the mooring and then home before lunch and the F1. Thanks to all for your help and assistance given. Dave

Hi all Well after nearly 2 months since Lady C broke down and had to be towed in I hope to put her back into the water next week-end. Downside has been the cost of the repairs. The problem I had when I had to get a tow in was the steering yoke spline had worn away, so I obtained one from the USA at a good price compaired to the UK. As the Volvo leg had to come off to gain access I discovered that water had got into the leg and just blown the oil seal where the drive shaft uj's are so when I removed the bellows I found a wonderful oily mess. So I found a repair shop in Littlehampton who is offering a good deal on labour charges for repairs. Seems that when it was stripped down 2 bearings needed replacing and a complete seal kit required and a few other bits. When I got the bill I nearly fainted but was assured it was totally rebuilt and overhauled. It would have been cheaper to buy Trev's old leg. If you have had or got anything marine Volvo you will know how expensive the price of parts are and they just increases by the minute. Next the prop was cleaned up and reaired with a tweak to the pitch to help increase the revs, thanks to Prop Solutions and thier expertise I hope to gain a few more kts and a good price was given to me as a club member. As I had repainted the hull earlier this year I had to take the name off so I ordered a replacement, now when it comes to letter size 5" looks quite a good size but when on the boat it looks huge! Well at least you will see the name! With a quick touch up on the antifoul and a few other jobs done she is almost ready. Thanks to Paul for the loan of his trailer, it has worked a treat. Will report how she runs soon but I think I will have to get my sea legs back after such a long lay off and in the good weather as well! Dave

Terry I would suggest a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn as you know what you are getting and the rooms are always clean. A shower and comfortable bed is always a must with "she who must be obeyed" Dave

Hi John Welcome to Dorset when you get here. I have only been here just over 4 years myself and found people very helpful. When you get the chance to join in with the club and you will find a wealth of information and people willing to give their time to help others. Dave

Hi Ian I think we have all been there at some time, in fact I am still doing it. Going down to the boat to fix something then do that and start something else, it never stops unless you get someone else to do all the work! Would love to see some pictures of your handy work sometime. Keep at it and it will soon be time to go after those whiting and cod! Coddy

Don't forget that it will soon be illegal to drink and drive a boat! (hic) The bar stool may not be a good idea if screwed down next to the bar. (hic) Skippers are always in charge and have the responsability come what may! (hic) Dave

Hi Woody Welcome to the best club on the South Coast if not the uk! If you are looking for a boat at sometime, if you take a peek at my website, link in my signature, it may give you some ideas. Best advice is to try to get out as crew on as many boats you can, to see how YOU feel about them and if it suits you and your needs and pocket. As Safety Officer I would recomend a number of courses, Powerboat level 2, VHF radio, Survival at Sea, Navigation just to wet your appitite. Enjoy Coddy

Brian It is up to you but I could not see the point of those pulpit rails on the warrior, you never stand on the bow and apart from looking nice (?) you could use the money towards something else. Just a thought. Dave

Hi Brian I would go along with what Adam has stated but would add as extras: Gunnel pockets, great for a quick store of bits as you fish. Extra storage area on starboard side under seating area in the cuddy. You may have a choice of an anchor/rope store in the bow or a very large dry storage area under bow, access in the cuddy. A number of earlier models use to leak water from the rope/anchor store into bilge, I should think this has been resolved by now however. Oh nearly forgot, get some decent seats not those cheap ones they are now offering as standard Dave

Hi all Can anyone help me this week-end? I need to pull out my boat but I need a 4x4 to get it up the slipway at the RNLI The boat is staying in the yard so it is just a pull up the slip required. I was hoping my son could borrow one from work but was unable to do so, so if anyone can help that would be great. The best time would be about 17.30 on Saturday or Sunday morning to get the high tides. PM me or telephone 01202 696909 Thanks Coddy

There is always the slip at Slipway, which is next to the RNLI college. I did put some picture on the forum a few months ago but parking is a no no as yellow lines, could always park at Asda. Coddy
