Hi Pete As Mike and Charlie have said type of anchor comes down to confidence and the seabed you are anchoring on. I would have thought a 7.5kg Bruce type would be sufficent for your craft, I have found with my Bruce look-a-like I have had to sharpen up the blade of the anchor to ensure it cuts into the sea bed. A good length of anchor chain, at least the length of the boat + a bit if possible. I carry as a spre anchor the old fashioned Fisherman's anchor, when deployed I know it will stick in anywhere! (May never get it out in rocky places however) I did make one with a trip facility on it and proved very useful at times. For this type of anchor use 1lb for every foot of boat length as a guide. Good luck on your search Coddy

Hi Mike I am sure will get a lot of "I use xxx and well pleased with it" Suggest that you go to here http://www.jgtech.co.uk/page3.htm?tp=CONTINUE+SHOPPING they are based in Weymouth and give great deals and you can have a play with some of the units in the shop. Worth giving them a call before going as they do close at odd times. They can be hard to find as they are close to Weymouth Angling Centre but under the covered pathway going towards the town bridge. Many of the local charter fleet use him so he comes with some knowledge! Have fun, Oh I use Navman and well pleased with it, it also uses C-Map NT+ charts which seem to be very popular with many manufactures. Out of interest which style of charts are being phased out? Hi Jack I have always found fishing harder when the wind has East in it, this has been the same on the East coast and down here on the South coast. Then again it could just be me! Coddy

Managed to get the boat out for the first time this year. A bit of a late start but as we, my son Matt was crew, had not registered for the Flounder comp and my ability of catching Flounders is about as good as Jack's predictions that we were happy to give it a miss this time around. We headed out towards the spoils and saw a number of boats in the area so we joined in near Alfresco. Seems others were having problems with holding on the anchor but we stuck fast all day. It was a bit slow to begin with as the flooding tide rushed in. but as the tide eased the bites and fish started to come in. We ended up with with a nice number of whiting to keep and loads returned to grow or be caught again. When the tide stopped the pout came out plus the odd whiting. By 3pm we headed back in as I wanted to try out my auxillary engine in the harbour and still have enough light to clean everything. Ended up with a nice whiting of 2.5lb and plenty of others in the 1.5 to 1.75 weights, most spewing up sprats. Good day out and weather was great, sea was a tad lumpy to start but ended up nice and calm. Hope others did as well. Coddy

For those who have not read this month's copy of Boat Fishing Monthly, there is an article about a new campaign organised by the Weymouth Charter skippers. All you need to do is add your name to a petition on the following link Recycle Fish forum. You can also obtain, for a SAE, stickers for your tackle box or boat. It costs nothing to join in and whilst it may not bring immediate response from the powers to be, it might give an indication of the level of support and numbers of people that are concerned about our sport/hobby. Have a look and read and send in your name, that's all there is to it. Coddy

Hi Chris Have a look on my web site www.fishing-boats.info link on my signature I have a few reports on the QS range If Tom was around, I think he is working at the Boat Show, I am sure he would suggest a number of other boats to look at so similar money, not mentioning any makes. Regards Coddy

Depending on the age of the motor, I would suspect a starter motor problem with one of the armature segments dirty or failed. If you know anything of electrics and starter motors it is fairly simple to remove the starter motor, and clean the commutator and brushes. The brushes may also be worn, again it all depends on its age and useage. Do check the simple things first like cable connections, battery terminals etc. Coddy

I was kindly invited out on Alfresco by Charlie on Saturday which got me out of the usual household jobs. What a pleasure it is to walk down a pontoon to a boat ready and waiting in the water, it was a bit cold and ice under foot but it felt good to be going fishing. As we were motoring out I noticed Adam cruising in the harbour and followed us out, seems he forgot his electronics this morning so tagged along. I used this opportunity to take a picture or two. We seemed to skip over the water so effortlessly at 20+kts and it was soooo nice to sit inside a cabin instead of an icy wind blasting in your face. Charlie dropped the pick close to where some numbers he had but someone had beaten us to the exact mark. Dan was soon into whiting and it soon became the norm to get some good sized ones aboard. The best went to 3.5lbs Dan was into to a good fish which turned out to be a lively conger, seems it broke the boat's record, I will let Charlie tell all. Charlie also managed to pull out an eel but a bit smaller than Dan's. In getting all the rods out of the way for this fish, I had just caught a nice whiting but it managed to flick itself out of the nearly full fish box and back into the sea! This is now the best sort on catch and release method I can think of! As the wind increased so did the swell and we soon had had enough so packed up and headed in. Thanks to Charlie for the invite and Dan showing us all how to catch big conger. Coddy
