Well my replacement boat, Lady Christine, has arrived home from Scarbough North Yorkshire. She was collected by a company called Boat Loads and would recommend them. She was collected on Wednesday and delivered and launched into Holes Bay Friday evening. She was due Thursday but due to the wind and other issues I delayed the delivery. She is a Romany 21 with a panning hull, a Ford desiel inboard and Volvo leg which should push her along inexcess of 20kts. Whith a little spit and polish (coat of paint), she should be almost ready to go. I have a few safety bits to buy but hopefuly nothing major. All we need now is the weather! Coddy

I would think a set of darts and a suitable picture when it is discovered that they/he has drilled a hole in the wrong place! Coddy

Saw this and thought it may be of interest to others http://www.poolemarine.co.uk/categories.asp?cID=131 Also can anyone help me identify a Volvo Penta outdrive leg. I need to buy new anodes but don't know how to pick the right model. My leg does not have powered trim/tilt and has a manual release to unlock and lift the leg. Thanks Coddy

I might be wrong but in the case of where Adam is going to moor his new boat I would of thought that Epoxy coating would be better as it gives a little more protection to the hull against scrapes if the tide is low getting over the bar! Are you also thinking of a keel band Adam? I am watching this thread with interest as I might have to antifoul my new boat later in the year. Coddy

Gordon I use to strip the bearings/brakes twice a year and no painting only waterproof grease on moving parts and backplate. Seemed to last well without problems. On thing I would reccomend is to disconnect the brake cables and pour a little desiel down the outer/inner cables and work the cables up & down. I think a lot depends how far you submerge the trailer for launching. Coddy

The theory about allowing the bearings to cool normally is that if immersed in cold water the contraction of metal will suck in water through the seals! Now I don't know how true this is but I do know that I never used to get water up to the drums when launching, except at Baiter slip, so it stopped the brakes linings coming away from the shoes. It is normally rust bubbling under the linings that cause the problem! Coddy

Hi all I was wondering what you guys suggest to carry as spares on the boat for desiel engines? I can see fan/pump belts, fuel filter, some engine oil but what else? I am sure there is so much you can do when at sea should something fail! Coddy

Went down to them last week and was told they don't hire out boat trailers! This was the Poole branch Coddy

Hi Charlie I recall a program with Henry Gilby Bass fishing. I think most deatils can be gained at the local tackle shop in St.Hellier Coddy

Hi Charlie As one of jobs for the Club was to see if any pressure could be put on the "Authorities" to improve boat launch/access in Poole. Martin advised me this was going to be hard! He was not wrong!! Mad Mike and I wrote to a number people and businesses to see what could be done. In a word nothing! The biggest problem at Baiter is that it needs a ramp to be built high enough to go out far enough to get deep water for launch/recovering. The alternative is to dredge around the slip but this would soon fill back in! What is needed is a decent slip into deep(er) water and have car & trailer parking close by. As most deeper water is surrounded by prime business ground there is little chance of this happening. It was suggested that whoever (whenever) the new "Sails" bridge is ever started the construction company could build a new slipway but this was rejected as parking was an issue an new flats/houses etc were needed to improve the "experience" of Poole harbour. I did hear that those images you see on the adverts are in a river and not the sea. For best results the boat has to be in flat clam water! As been said previously, think it is early days for this yet Coddy

Hi Charlie Be warned I have an issue with Select Marine! I won't post anything here yet as I need to see what response they are going to do but will report back on the forum whatever the outcome. Coddy

A young blonde Portsmouth girl, down on her luck, decided to end it all one night by casting herself into the cold, dark waters off Gunwharf Quay. As she stood on the edge, pondering the infinite, a young sailor noticed her as he strolled by. 'You're not thinking of jumping, are you babes?' he asked. 'Yes, I am.' replied the sobbing girl. Putting his arm around her, the kind sailor coaxed her back from the edge. 'Look, nothing's worth that. ..... I'll tell you what; I'm sailing off for Australia tomorrow. Why don't you stow away on board and start a new life over there. I'll set you up in one of the lifeboats on the deck, bring you food and water every night and I'll look after you if you look after me - if you know what I mean? You just have to keep very quiet so that you won't be found'. The girl, having no better prospects, agreed, and the sailor sneaked her on board that very night. For the next 3 weeks the sailor came to her lifeboat every night, bringing food and water, and making love to her until dawn. Then, during the fourth week, the captain was performing a routine inspection of the ship and its lifeboats. He peeled back the cover to find the startled blonde, and demanded an explanation. The girl came clean, 'I've stowed away to get to Australia. One of the sailors is helping me out. He set me up in here and brings me food and water every night and he's screwing me.' The captain stared at her for a moment before he replied, 'He certainly is love. This is the Isle of Wight Ferry.' Coddy

Welcome to the club Duncan Sorry we did not meet up last night at the AGM but as you say most meetings are not so ..................... involved. Good luck with your new Warrior, I had, until recently a 165 a what a great boat is was. If you get half as much fun out of yours as I did with mine for the four years I owned her then you will enjoy the experiance. I look forward to your catch reports and may you have many big ones over the gunnels, just leave a few for us poor mortals! One tip I would suggest, if using Baiter as your slip, make sure you give your trailer and brakes a really good fresh water flushing as the slip is very shallow and you need to get the water well over the wheels to launch! Well done in becoming the 100th boat in the club. Coddy
