  1. Stugeron is the stuff, Kam. You can buy it over the counter at the chemist. Martin's magic formula is to take one tablet the night before, to get it in your system. And then two tablets in the morning a couple of hrs before you launch. I remember someone saying that a Dr friend of there's said that Stugeron is the only medicine that really combats sea sickness. 2. Ugly looking thing. Nice conger, though.
  3. You'll know if you've caught "The Beastie". It'll have half a dozen hooks in it's mouth and towing 1000yds of various types of braid and mono. Come on!! Who's got the balls to real this one in?? BF

  5. Nice one Kam. Got rid of all the slime yet?? BF
  6. I've been there Sinbad. The prop repairers made a fortune out of me last year. Seemed to have got the hang of Xchruch this year, though. Haven't hit the prop yet [famous last words]. BF
  7. What about some flounder fishing in Poole Harbour? One of the best places in the country at this time of year. BF

Mad Mike, You are having a "senior moment". Dan is not yet a member of PBSBAC, and I'm sure he'd know if he wasn't or not. Nice to know it not just me who has senior moments. BF (PBSBAC Membership Secretary)
  13. Ken or Kam (which is it? you seem to use both names), Again, you need to check if you have a blocking diode in line with the +ve lead. Even if you move the panel into direct sunlight the panel will still draw power from your battery during the night. And with daylight hours being much shorter during the winter months, the situation will be worse. If you don't have a blocking diode, go into Maplins and they will advise you on the type of diode you need and how to fit it. It will be less than
  14. Cheers Coddy. Yes, I wouldn't mind a gander, if you can find it. Did the move go ok? BF
  15. Thanks, Mike!! Anyone used one of these. Are they robust enough? BF
  16. Ah, so the batteries weren't completely flat. In which case, I think I know what the problem is. You mentioned that the panel is not in direct sunlight. Solar panels can actually drain a battery if they are not getting sufficient light. At night, for example, they will start drawing current from your battery. Try to see if your solar panel has blocking diode fitted to it. Cheap ones may not have one fitted. They stop the current being drawn back into the solar panel. BF
  17. Yep, crew beware if you're on my boat and a catch a cod. It's not only the cod that gets a kiss!!! Ain't that right Mark? There's a 3 month waiting list for crew on Splash-Out!! Not sure why... BF
  18. Intertesting point, Ken. Every bit helps, I guess. Rings a familiar bell with other animals...becoming endangered due to loss of habitat. BF
  19. Ken, I assume you were only on holiday for a couple of weeks or so. In which case, your batteries should not have gone flat, even without the solar panel running. As Mike says, you may have a small leak to earth, but most probably you will find that something was accidently turned on. Having said that, the solar panel will need to get direct sunlight to work efficiently. You never know, it might have been the flashing red led that ran down your batteries. BF

Hi Dan, Sorry to hear about your boat. I hope the damage wasn't too bad, though smashed to bits sounds pretty serious. What have you got left to do on her? What is the size of your boat? X-ray is a mark a couple of miles west of the ledge, but I wouldn't advise the mark if you just have a very small open boat. It can be quite choppy coming back over the ledge when the tide is against wind. As Ken says, membership to PBSBAC is
  21. Welcome aboard Wrasse Kisser. Martin, I assume this means he puts 'em back. Good man!! And there aren't many better looking fish to kiss...not that I'm an expert on ass kissing...sorry, WRasse kissing. BF
  22. So, let's try it in the N-S direction. 1 minute = 1nm = 2,025yds = 6,076ft 0.1 minute (digital) = 200yds = 600ft So, 0.1 = ~200yds in N-S 0.1 = ~130yds in E-W Sound OK????? BF
  23. Paul, Good man. I think you've put me onto the right road. I screwed up (how unusual). 400ft = 0.1 of a minute (I mis-read the chart). So this is digital, like you have on your GPS, rather than seconds. (e.g. W 01.58.50 to W 01.58.40 would be 400ft) The distance on Duncan's chart is in minutes (') and seconds ("). Difference between the two X's is 29.8" minus 13.8" = 16" (seconds) Convert 16" into digital you get 16/60 = 0.26 of a minute. 400ft x 2.6 = 1,040ft between the X's (or 317m). Which makes the base of the pinacle about 250ft. The rise on the pinacle isn't so steep now. Does that sound more realistic, Duncan? Paul's GPS recons 1min is 1180m. My measurement on a chart using a ruler on a scale says 1 min = 4000ft. 4000ft = 1219m Close enough I suppose. 40m difference. So, perhaps the rule of thumb is 1 minute on the GPS = 4000ft. Or 0.1 of a minute = 400ft (133yds) Come on Shytalk, put me out of my misery. Is this right?? Its not a good idea to be doing this past midnight!! BF
  24. Hope the move went well, Dave. Welcome to the area! cheers BF
  25. "9 CAPSIZE BOTTLE & ROPE ROPE TO BE MINIMUM 1.5 TIMES LENGTH OF VESSEL (UNLESS LIFE-RAFT IS CARRIED)" Isn't this something you throw overboard and cling to if the boat capsizes or if you have a MOB? BF
