  1. I've read a few articles recently that talk about drifting over banks for cod using artificles or the usual squid. It doesn't seem to be a tactic that we use in Poole Bay. Why is anchoring preferred compared drifting a bank? Wouldn't drifting offer you a better chance of finding the fish?? Comments welcomed. cheers Bob F.
  2. Brilliant!!! Now I know where my family line came from...???

    Landing Net

Rich, Martin, I bought it from Reed's Sports shop. It was the only one left, so didn't have the opportunity to buy more, and I wasn't sure it was going to fit, anyway. Bob F.
  4. 'erindors has got a big list lined up for me this winter. And now my daughter has started nagging about decorating her room too!!! I don't get that problem with my sons...

    Landing Net

Picked up a replacement net whilst out in the States last week. Made by RANGER, model number 42H (42 ins deep, H=heavy duty), fits a hoop size of 36". It's perfect for the s/s landing nets that Pete made. Well chuffed with it. And only $6. Bob F.
  7. Peter, I'm interested in the Team Daiwa uptider. I'll see you early next week as mentioned on the phone. cheers Bob F.
  8. Hadn't thought of that one Dave. Might be right. Cheers Bob F
  9. Rich, I could do with some Bopedo's. I have the lead and wires. Will you be at the next club meet? Bob F.
  10. I'll be wearing a life jacket or floatation suit from now on. I've always made my kids where one, so why not me. Another thing I've noticed is that some of us wear chest waders whilst out at sea. What are peoples views on this?? Bob F.
  11. We will have an Offshore Flare Pack from J-Marine. Bob F.

  14. So, you've all heard about our adventure at Kimmeridge, but one thing I didn't mention was my engine cutting out when we were hit by a big wave coming into the slip. I'm not sure why this happened. I assume it is some kind of safety feature, but in practice it nearly turned out to be disasterous. As we were coming into the slip we rode over a huge wave which must have taken the prop out of the water for a time. On dropping over the other side of the wave I went to put power on and found that the engine had cut out. These Suzuki 4 strokes are so quiet you don't notice when they have stopped!! Anyway, by the time I had realised the engine had cut out and restarted it, we had drifted beam on into the next wave which nearly tipped us over!!! Anyone know why it would cut out? I assume it is a safety cut-out on these EFI models. It happened a couple of times when we were riding over the bigger waves???? Maybe it's a kinda Suzuki message which is meant to tell you you are in waters that are too dangerous so get the hell in!! cheers Bob F
  15. Yep, good luck with the new boat. The Alaska I got from Arnie has proved its seaworthiness so I expect the Samurai to come put of the same mould (excuse the pun ). Being hit by a huge wave beam on and tilting to 80 degrees without tipping over has got to be a pretty good test. Doesn't say much for my seamanship for putting her in that position in the first place, but that's another story... Bob F.
  16. I quite liked the shadow effect you had going there for while...
  17. Eh up, Mike...are you finally going to retire those tatty old nylon stockings??? Shame on you.
  18. Great news!! Nice one James. Fly that PBSBAC flag for us. It's a great motor to win. Just the same as mine. Smooth as silk. ...of course you know you'll have to buy a new boat for it...??? ...but I'm getting ahead of myself. Good luck, mately. Bob F.
  19. Sounds like a great idea, Adam. Will they have hotdogs and hamburgers? i could bring the onions...

    2 stroke Engine

...but the second plug is to drain the oil.
  22. A case for me please, Martin. Bob F.

    2 stroke Engine

Yep, go for the plugs first. That's usually the problem. But if you have had old fuel in it for a few months, the oil mix can start to go jelly-like and clog up the little fuel filter. This happened on my new aux. It had a high oil mix because I was being run in, and I left the fuel in for about 6 months without starting it. Had to remove all the fuel, clean out the fuel filter and clean the plugs. Then she started first time!!! Bob F.
  24. One way is to think big and go the whole hog. Another way is to do it in small steps. How about first seeing if we can use our Clubs "buying power" to negotiate discounted rates for the use of a deep slip and moorings, like Mitchell's for example? And maybe there is a building or room within the yard that we can use, borrow, share, hire for our club meetings and/or storage of equipment and gear. Our club is really terrific, but I guess one thing we cannot offer is the means to get boats into the water or keep them on the water. One of the biggest ways to attract even more members would be to offer discounted access to a slip way and moorings. That's why the clubs in the mags have such big memberships, they offer access to the water, typically through the use of their own slips, but I see no reason why a club couldn't use it's buying power to negotiate discounted rates. Wouldn't Mitchell's be interested in getting the business from 40-60 boats? From a little acorn grows a mightly oak... Bob F
