    Alderney ring

Found the article. Page 64 of June BFM. You tie a small loop in the anchor warp (they recommend one and a half boat lengths away from the boat). The loop is then passed through the small hoop at the bottom of the triangle and looped back over the hoop again to secure. Bob F.
  2. Bearing savers are a boon for either braked or unbraked trailers. In my experience, the grease remains in place behind the seals without regreasing after each trip. I remove them every 6 months when I check the bearings and brakes, and then refit with new grease. You do need to apply grease around the nipples to stop them rusting up, though. Make sure you use the waterproof grease (looks cream coloured, like barrier cream). Ordinary grease will wash out. Bob F.
  3. Not sure, yet. Will wait to see on the day. Bob F.
  4. Yeh, it didn't sound good to me. Sounded like the big end was going or some piston related problem. It didn't sound cheap, anyway. Hope I'm wrong and it's just something simple. Bob F.

    Alderney ring

The triangle is supposedly used to stop the anchor bouy drifting back up the anchor warp and hiding under the bow. You let out the anchor, warp, alderney ring and bouy as normal, and then about 2-3m before you tie off the warp you secure the triangle to the rope so that the triangle sticks above the rope like and inverted pyramid. Problem is, I can't remember how you actually secure the triangle. I'll see if I can find the article in the mags that mentioned this. Why bother with this triangle??? Sometimes the wind/tide will push the anchor bouy under the bow and out of sight. It's then difficult to see the bouy when you start the anchor retrieve, and can also hide the bouy from other boats and therefore they may not be aware that you have an anchor rope out. Bob F.
  6. Adam, I didn't notice a mesh on your inlet or outlet. Will this be on the MK 5?

    Aux Engine Bracket

Hmmm...in normal operation, I agree that that the top bolts will be under tension and the bottom bolts under compression, but IMO, when you are trailering, the aux bracket and engine get bounced around a hell of a lot, which will cause tension on the bottom bolts, also. The same applies when the boat is being tossed around at sea. I would secure the bottom bolts to coupe with both tension and compression. Have a look at other 520's and see how they have secured the aux. Bob F.
  8. You will undoubtedly see the "effect" of ridges on the bottom contour of the FF display when you are in a swell. especially in shallow water. You can see the effects of the waves by sitting at anchor watching bottom contour rise and fall with the waves. Thanks for the trip out Adam. Hope the engine isn't too expensive to sort out. Bob F.
  9. Yes, interesting reading, Coddy. The item about the guy that drowned even though he was wearing an automatic life jacket was a lesson we should all learn from. This investigation revealed that the trigger mechanism on the lifejacket had operated successfully, but the gas cylinder had unscrewed a little and the trigger did not reach and pierce it. So, check that your bottles are screwed up tightly. Bob F.

She might give you more than an earful, Mike. Have you seen her??? 6ft 5in tall, 28in biceps, 38in thighs, size 13 slippers. And she's a red head...got no hair, just painted it red!! I should take a mate with you, just to pick up the pieces. Good luck. Bob (the battered) F. ps - she does have one weakness though...but I haven't found it.
  11. Nice on Mike. I'll give it a go for my next service, now that the engine is out of warranty. Ah bo%%acks! Just remembered, I've got a Service voucher that I have to use before the end of the year, so I won't be doing my own service. Bob F.
  12. Cheers Charlie. Yes, I know what you mean about the rings being a bit cheap looking.
  13. Charlie, yes, if it's too rough for the lads I'd be more than happy to crew for you. cheers Bob F.
  14. OK chaps. What gets you're vote as the most bullet proof uptider on the market for less than
  15. Thanks Billy. I'll drop into the shop when we're down there for the Weymouth trip in a couple of weeks. Bob F.
  16. Splash-Out will be there with little Robert as crew. Bob F.
  17. Yeh, would love to fish it but will have to decline for the same reasons. Good luck to those that enter. Bob F.
  18. Jolly good. Nice web site, too. Bob F.
  19. Thanks guys. I'll pass on your best wishes to Karen. Mike, Karen would like a wee word with you is a dark corner. Adam and I will be trying to go out from Xchurch tomorrow afternoon. Talk to you later. Bob F.
  20. Just an exploratory knee operation, so hopefully nothing serious.
  21. Yep, can do Weds, but tides aren't so good for a night session. LW is at midnight, so we'd have to come in around 10pm. This works for me though, cus I have to get up at 5am on Thursday to take Karen into hospital for an operation. I've got the week off, so can go at any time on Weds. I'd be interested to see how XRay fishes into the night if we don't have sufficient time for the flatties. Bob F.

Good idea, but don't need any right now, Paul. cheers Bob F.
  23. HW on Thurs is 19:30, LW 01:30, which will only give us a couple of hours after dark, but should be enough. Bob F.
  24. Yeh, best to wait until you've seen them both. I think the bigger screen on the 182C will prove to be the better buy. Go for the biggest screen you can when it comes to plotters. Bob F.
  25. Okey doke. Bob F.
