Isnt it a tad shallow at LWS Tom? Or is there a channel right through. When I sailed years ago off that area, it was a no go. ? Paul

Alun I'm painting / fitting trim tabs back on in the morning but if you fancied a later start from PYC and a run out of the swash - you're welcome... Paul

Interesting post for those of us stuck in the water.... Put me down for International Interspeed... I've just taken Imagine off the swinging mooring, and after 6 months, there wasnt a single barnacle present - all that was required was a quick jet off to remove some loose brown slime. Although I paid the price in June when I could have been Cod fishing.. after 2 years without re-painting - large areas of the existing antifoul had fallen off back to the gelcoat, and the hull was pretty fouled all over. After some advice from Charlie, the gelcoat was rubbed back to key it, and a coat of primocon applied, then two coats of antifoul. Result is excellent so far, and for the remaining winter period I'm not expecting much growth until april, when she'll get a top up coat. Only problem is the stainless trim tabs, which werent very successful, with the primer / antifouling falling off. Regards Paul

It might also be a bit controversial, but why is the RNLI a charity....? OK it works well, and they have the freedom to operate and dictate their own policies, but you've got to wonder whether their funding is wholely sustainable in the future. Especially as they have an ever growing number of shouts (majority these days, I think to shore based members of the Public) I'm a personal member, and have been ever since owning a risk which floats, but their business accounts are a bit of a mystery to me. Unfortunately, taking Alans point, its not always possible to know what you are voting on, and the No10 forum doesnt allow any discussion. I'd be interested to hear any further details of the proposed legislation - Mike Fox ?? Anyone?? Paul

Signed up straight away. Perhaps could be moved to another Forum ? Paul

Once again, we British are shown to be a soft touch... just because you stick a sign up saying 'no fishing' we think the whole world abides by rules (our rules). You've only got to watch the british abroad, queuing up to wait their turn, only to have Johny Foreigner pile in at the front of the line to help himself first. We put the saungat refugee camp at the entrance to the Channel Tunnel, and wonder why the poor migrants keep trying to smuggle themselves onto trains. Again no Predudical or Racial tone is meant by this, only that we are the most stupid and gulible People on the planet, and dont understand that not everyone thinks like us...or plays according to our way of thinking. Does make you wonder how the fisherys man has been doing his job all those years and hasnt twigged what is bleedingly obvious, that if the demand for Bass in the shops goes up, then there will be someone ready to supply it. I think I need a holiday.... Paul

Poor Tom, I remember a few years back.... had the british record Herring under the grill for his tea, before he realised..... Are we talking about the same man??? I've bust my guts laughing at all this Haddock talk. Thanks Chaps Paul

Charlie I'm interested in how you all got on, as it seemed such a perfect day, weather wise... I ws looking at the sun setting over the forest on my way home, and thought of some lucky "lads" watching the same sunset through bending rods..... Were there any mackerel still available... ? Paul Edited!

Hi Alun I Would be interested in a session on Friday, buddying up, my place or yours.... depending on whether anyone posts here... potentially, we have two boats..but no crew Weather looks sort of OK, but could be Easterly double figures.... Just cooked the last of the Trigger (from Friday... been in the fridge since)... lovely large flakes and good texture.. ruined by breadcrumbs and tomato ketchup - but then both Alex and Isobel tried a large chunk as well.... I need a recipe!!! Regards Paul

So thats what they mean by 'surfing the net'

Its interesting - sometimes one favour can never be repaid in the same way. Which is why I towed a stranded RIB on the ledge into the safety of the beach on Thursday, hoping that if ever it was me in the same situation, someone will show the true spirit of what we all share by owning a boat and lend a hand.... The way I see it is that no one intentionally goes out anticipating to break down, and the actual incident, and stress when it happens is bad enough and a sobering experience, without having the worst happen, which could be loss of life or abandonment of the boat. So to be rescued, more than compensates for the incident.... Well Done Charlie, Rob and Crew... what a Star Turn!

It was a great day to be out, and share the sunshine and relative calm of Chapmans Pool, with a couple of other charter boats.... but wow what a trip out there, with the direction of the surf waves all over the place. I couldnt see why the conditions were so bad, but possibly the last of the ebb against the NW wind ? At one stage going south down some particularly steep ones (in the 10ft range), you needed to kill the throttle to stay on the wave, before shooting down the face of it, and then giving it some gas... Once arround the corner of StAlbans, It proved to be an interesting area between here and kimmeridge with plenty of rock, sand and clay gullies to check out. If it had been the species hunt we would have scored handsomely... baby bass 3-4 at a time on feathers by the Brownsea castle... garfish , Mackerel and Scad on feathers...at Chapmans - Ray, Bream and doggies on Mackerel fillets....oh, and a few pout... And a very quiet day on the radio (no signal behind the cliffs!) Still - a very enjoyable day to be out and well worth a prudent approach of constantly assessing changes to the wind direction and tide... We thought the flood against the easterly would be pretty awful - although going in right close to St Albans and Durlston is easily the best track.. However the return trip was with the flood and by now wind in the S was much smoother, but the overfalls of Peverill were pretty horrible. We saw Star Turn at anchor in swanage, but pressed on home as this was the first bit pf smooth water since chapmans pool. Well done Charlie and crew on Alfresco, and all those who braved it - it was well worth the effort. Paul

Todays forecast looked just too good, light winds with sunshine....So decided to go on my own as planned. for a spot of bassing and meeting up with AJ. Up at normal time for work, though, and down to the boat by just after 7:30.. Leaving PYC slightly behind schedule, it took just 40 mins for the run over to the ledge from Poole, and I was joining a handful of boats already on the mark. The easterly breeze and brisk flood were kicking up some breaking waves further out, but the inshore drifts looked nice and smooth. Next problem was some livebait (why oh why didnt I stop earlier....) In fact I got a small joey straight away, but then took an hour to find any more, and in the end decided that my bait would last longer in the water than in my bait bucket, so put him over the side. Fishing was slow to say the least, with AJ and Les L fairing similarly to me... I dont know whether it was the colour of the water, or the general lack of bait fish.... In the end, I had to wait until the ebb until I had two smallish bass of a couple of pounds, both shaking their heads as they got towards the back of the boat, flinging the bait plus hook away. The third run, I manage to boat him, but he was only a pound, so went back almost immediately. As I'd run out of bait, I then anchored up for a bream or trigger, and Bingo, but it was only the one solitary fish. Weighed on the home scales 2lb 2oz.. Highlights of the day... everything worked on the boat including an improvised livewell, made out of just a big tub and filled now and again via a deck wash pump.. "Rescuing" two lads in a rib with a broken outboard, anchored in the tide. Watching AJ hook up with the Potter, and exchange a few 'pleasantries' whilst he swept away three sets of gear from the lads....

Hi Martin.... is this a new recipe?

Well done Dave - when we spoke at PYC a few months ago - you were doubting the engine performance - must be a great relief all round. I know my hull just flys now its clean, and I'm looking forward to the Sept- Nov fishing, which can be excellent in the knowledge that the boat wont have to come out for paint for a long time yet. Hope you get a chance for some Bass - AlunJ's record was in November ( I think) so they'll be there for many months yet. Paul

Alun you know you want to!!! - if you have the permission... if you need crew, or would like to go Poole direction...I've a fully paid up day pass. Paul
