Paul, Good points, only when the resolution is duly voted on, I hope someone remembers to write it into the constitution and put it in a safe place (i.e on the website) Did the mamouth vote of two AGM's ago ever get written as above.....? I think we tried to define what constituted a boat and how many club members needed to be on board etc etc. The three hook rule we voted on for club comps seems to have been forgotten -(re the last open comp rules), and I'm not sure what was voted on now it was so long ago. Would some kind sole help, either produce the minutes of the last but one AGM or show me where this was written down ? yours cheekily Paul

Hi Dave Since having my charging problems last year, I check the volts across the battery on a regular basis - both the panel instruments voltage and you can set something up on some fishfinder displays also. 12-12.6V - no charging, 13 - 13.8V cooking on gas! Paul

Dave, Shall I get your coat ????? The ' 50year old ' joke was almost up to Terry's standard (plaicemat) !!! keep them coming..... but save some for the quiet season..... Paul

Id echo all of the previous comments - what a great day!! - very hard work for those who fished (myself included) -but our effort was at least only one day, compared to the organisers who had many more hours of effort setting up, including lost fishing time, paperwork and organising all the sponsorship. What a result Craig! even more remarkable such a good Conger from not more than a mile offshore Just shows what can be done!! We had a great day, some 15 miles out on the banks and bridge in the company of a couple of Poole / Lymington charters. It was like a washing machine on the way back in, but we were going as quickly as possible to make the scales. Well Done also to Alun for weighing in a nice bass for the prize table... Paul

Adam From back of the tin of Primocon..... Preparation: "Aluminium: Mechanically abrade with aluminium compatible paper or low pressure grit blast using aluminium oxide. Pre-Prime with etch primer. Application: Apply the folowing number of coats Steel/ Alluminium/Alloy/Lead - 5 coats Overcoating time (self) 15 degC Min 3hours - Overcoating time optimal 15degC 16hours. 24 hours for 5 degC This one has always had me baffled - whether to wait the 16 hours. I dont know under what conditions you could overpaint in 3 hours flat. (saudi arabia perhaps) All I can say is that this stuff is fairly gloopy unless you keep it mobile with a little No3 thinners, and I always ended up leaving overnight to harden enough to get near it. Perhaps you should seek advice here or phone their help line :023 8021 3146. Otherwise you could be out for a longer time. Last year I abraded my trim tabs until they looked pretty horrible - whatever SA2 1/2 is supposed to be, then 5 coats plus 2 of antifoul, and they are still good, but your etch primer adds another coat. Hope this helps Best of Luck!!! Paul

Dave, You need to check the recommendations from the manufacturer. The first one I Antifouled stated that the paint should be water based not solvent, but currently my garmin is antifouled with interspeed which is definately solvent based antifoul - doesnt foul up - I just give it a brush now and then to remove the inevitable surface deposition. all these comments relate to the transducer not any wheel ! Adam - lovely photo! Very best wishes and congrats to you both...and welcome to our youngest member of the club. Make sure mum gets plenty of rest over the next few days, and enjoy every moment... first bath....first nappy change by you! they'll all be unforgettable moments and see you through the early weeks. I've heard driving the baby arround poole harbour with a bt of gentle rocking at anchor should send it off - pity I didnt have my boat in those days to try it... Paul

Thanks Adam, The Rich referred to is Richard Channing - Dixc on forum -he's not a club member. Maybe that will persuade him to join!! Also - I had trouble finding a copy of the form or the rules for that matter. the only form I have dates back to when Charlie was Fish recorder Could someone a - pin the comp rules in the forum b = pin the species score sheet Regards Paul

One last point, when driving the anchor out in a big sea, I find it easier to let out a little more scope if you are in shallow water, so when you are going slower than normal there is some nice stretch in the rope. The Anchor comes out softly without a big bang, or the front of the boat being pulled off course. I'm sure that for most of our anchoring i.e short duration then pre-stretched or non stretch is OK, but Nylon is the preferred material of Yachties who have to anchor overnight, with alot more mass hanging off the anchor. I've got anchor plait as well - its millionaires prices but lovely stuff. Paul

Second attempt at typing in a report - I fell asleep at my laptop keyboard last night, before I could hit the send button!! suffice to say I was knackered!! Day started by falling off the side deck when on the swinging mooring. but fortunately only got one leg wet due to a strategically placed rubber dinghy. Richard C and myself loaded up the gear and were off by 0830 in the warm sun and zero wind - pity it turned out to be one of those very wet wind against tide jobs later on... Stopped off at the castle for a few points - Richard trying out the flycasting, as it was so calm - but nothing tempted on the rather large pike fly / sinking line. Though looked most elegant way of fishing. Then we headed off down the the Piers for the mackerel, and they were mostly ones or twos per drop, but died off before we could each get our quota. Still with plenty of bait in the livewell (pic) off we went to the ledge to join in the bass drifting -with the hope of a bit of settled water in close, and some plugging. The water looked remarkaby clear and not much weed so we were hopeful at least for a few hours We had about half an hour before the ebb started, which changed the smooth water into a washing machine in the rapidly increasing wind. Even the live baits produced nothing - and many casts were done. So in the end we anchored up for some lunch and bait fishing, and gave the bream and pout a bashing - no big fish but at least there ws some sport. Then we headed back towards the pier when the swell was getting uncomfortable, and Richard had one last go for mackerel on the fly - but the drift speed and wind direction made casting a tad difficult. However Richard had more success with 3 Gurnards on the feathers. Then it was a few mackerel, but they were very scattered and hard to find, before we called it a day. Final tally Paul - 4 Pollack, 4 mackerel, 25litres of fuel Richard - 4 Pollack, 4 mackerel, 3 Gurnard An enjoyable day, but very hard work, conditions taking the edge off what could have been.... Paul

Species hunt but using only feathers or lures as stated have a look at the score card. maximum of 4 kind of a species to count. mackerel count as one point - perhaps someone can upload the score card?? Paul

Brian There may be some logic to cutting your 200m in half, and connecting the spare bit to an emergency anchor (a proper one though!!), You can always use the spare warp on the odd occasion you are over deeper water. I wouldnt feel safe without a spare anchor, having lost one previously. I might increase the amount of spare warp carried to 150m though when I could, as without any power and 12m offshore, you would drift a long way either right or left without getting into any shallower water. BTW, braid isnt the best anchor line - it may not stretch enough, with the result of breaking the anchor out in a rough sea. Regards Paul

Freddie, I've been through terminal 1 with a pint of maggots before now - even though they are 90% liquid Oh and I forgot to mention, they seem to be obsessed with the trout and parr species, hence the steep prices of their fishing licences. No one seems to target the Bream / Chub. There's plenty of trout in the river and lakes though. Paul
-
Hi Freddie, I used to go out to Geneva Mon-Fri, every week. There are certainly large quantities of fish in the lake, but the Gin like waters and summer heat, can make shore angling quite difficult at times. However we found the early morning and evening the best times (i.e after work!!!!) around the stone harbours and other features. Because we were there every week, we bought a permit/licence - what a timewasting, bureaucratic and expensive exercise it was...We fished within the canton of Vaud, but other cantons will have their own rules about where you can fish. We were in a hotel along the northern side, with a fast stream running down to the lake. Here I had my PB Chub of 7lbs, but many of similar size. Also in the lake there are huge shoals of massive dustbin lid size bream, which make good fun on a telescopic rod!! Good luck. Paul

Nice Pics Dave, looks a super job!! Glad you managed OK with the trailer and I was pleased to help - I've been missing her a bit, but you hang on until lady C is finished. Hope you get back on the water - second half of the season is often more productive... Paul

Thankyou, everyone... for keeping this thread alive and most informative especially Jim, for suggesting what I had intentioned in the first place by putting this up for a friend. The chuck it in the skip, was tongue in cheek, as of course. Disposal of fridges is governed by EC regulations stemming out of the Montreal Protocol, both controlling the potential release of refrigerants and phasing out the use of R22 and other Oxone depleting RF's by 2012. Aaaaaannnnnnywwaaaaaaayyyy....... This is the swop and shop forum, not "advice line" Come on Someone - its a fridge - nothing more !!! Paul
-
A friend of mine has a 600 x 600 integral fridge unit in working order, which has come out of an under worktop cabinet. Its available for collection from Christchurch, its going in the skip otherwise....

Simon If you are having doubts about keeping the boat longer term, and have already sussed the engine is too small, it may be difficult to shift onto another buyer, when you decide to upgrade to another boat. Regards Paul

Jim Went out this weekend, on Friday and Sunday, forecast was wrong both days !! Wind direction was sort of OK, but instead of the 8-11mph predicted by Metcheck/ BBC/ Windguru, we had a good F4-5. Fishing was rubbish to say the least, but the mackerel were very obliging, and at drift the boat was reasonably stable. Just made going back 'uphill' against the waves very wet, with the odd green one going over the top of the cabin Paul
-
I'm wondering if I can use a 6ft step ladder to reach my bait table, now that I've put in into the cabin roof rocket launchers. Suggestions welcomed.... Paul

Hi Adam, Isnt that sun setting on the wrong side, for swanage???? or did you flip the photo Nice Report... Paul
