  7. Launching from the old upper ferry slip is free but you'll have to hit and run cos there's no parking (accessible at any state of tide) The best spots on the Skerries or Scary's will be marked by the boat park ! (the southerly end towards Start Point) Watch out for the standing water (overfalls) off Start Point on a spring ebb (can be avoided close inshore under the lighthouse but mind the big rocks !! Inshore in Start Bay the tidal flow is southerly towards the lighthouse even on the flood for 5hrs out of 6 due to eddy (who's eddy) There's an inshore reef at Torcross (southern end) for Bass. There's a series of reefs from the southern end of Beesands (white house, end of prom) to Hallsands which go out almost to the Scary's Inshore under the radio masts between Hallsands and Start Point more reefs Troll or plug for Bass inshore between Hallsands and Start Point Start Point and Lannacombe Bay and anywhere in between inshore for Bass I dived that area for 20 years ! Enjoy

  13. A bloke's wife goes missing while diving off the West Australian coast. He reports the event, searches fruitlessly and spends a terrible night wondering what could have happened to her. Next morning there's a knock at the door and he is confronted by a couple of policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable. The Sarge says, 'Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some really bad news, but, some good news, and maybe some more good news'. 'Well,' says the bloke, 'I guess I'd better have the bad news first?' The Sarge says, 'I'm really sorry mate, but your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead.' The bloke is naturally pretty distressed to hear of this and has a bit of a turn. But after a few minutes he pulls himself together and asks what the good news is. The Sarge says, 'Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized crays and a swag of nice crabs attached to her, so we've brought you your share.' He hands the bloke a sugar bag with a couple of nice crays and four or five crabs in it. 'Geez thanks. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind and all that... So what's the other possible good news? 'Well', the Sarge says, 'if you fancy a quick trip, me and young Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again!

suppose we're saying the bags the lures come in are the same grade of plastic as food bags (food grade). So original packaginf bags and food bags are OK. Other bags such as the coin ones from banks aren't made from the same grade of plastic and are therefore likely to melt due to the chemical reaction. In a word YES Polymers, Co-Polymers, Plastics, DNA, makes me shudder, I love Science but can't keep up. I've Googled plastics inside out but can't find answers. A whole new meaning to Jelly Babies !! REDSPLIFF was taking the P1SS ! stick with this: WHEN PURCHASING SOFT PLASTIC LURES PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU MUST KEEP THEM AWAY FROM ALL PLASTIC CONTAINERS AND OTHER ARTIFICIALS. THEY WILL MELT ANY PLASTIC THEY COME INTO CONTACT WITH - INCLUDING TACKLE BOXES AND LURES OF A DIFFERENT TYPE. THEY CAN BE STORED SAFELY IN THIER ORIGINAL PACKING OR FOOD STORAGE BAGS Dave

NO DON'T It's all down to Chemistry !!!
  19. Can I have a rant too ? I stopped using Baiter on summer weekends years ago for all the above reasons and some. It's not so many years ago that the car park was a dirt track with puddles bigger than Poole harbour ! So it has been improved, but to the detriment of everybody, the better a facility the more people will use it. I live in Bournemouth with 7 miles of golden sands, Whoopee ! and not one access point for boats ! So what do the council do ? spend 2.68 MILLION on a poxy surf reef with a life expectancy of 25 years ! How will that pay for itself ? Surfer dudes doss in camper vans and sleep on the beach ! Bring on the global warming and rise in sea level and then we can all launch from Richmond Hill into what was the Square and Lower Gardens. I feel better now ! Dave
