  1. Yep.
  2. Thanks Guys - v. helpful. I have been using a turtle wax T-Cut until now, but it takes a while, okay for the final coat, but I need something a bit grittier first - may try G3. Re. power tools...what is best? I have been using a Dewalt Round, Orbital Sander with a sheeps wool mop (dry) and it has been OK, but I was thinking maybe somehting run on a compressor would give a greater RPM and therefore make it easier?

    Drag Weight?

Alan, Thats what I was after - an old sash window weight, anyone got one? Adam
  4. He looks like one of those men my mum told me to aviod when I was younger!
  5. Ill keep an eye on them - could be a bargin!
  6. #1 - The co-ax connection needs to be good (ie, inners and outers need to have a neat and solid connection) #2 - If you want me to pop round with my handheld Ill test it for you. Adam
  7. No - I dont need to use new gel, I just need to polish it up thats all...
  8. Having spent the last 5 months attempting to strip the anti foul of BW - I have managed to clean all of the topsides (the bits you can see on the water) and have almost finished the bow section - the extreme underneath can wait until next winter. Using a combination of chemicals, machines, wet and dry and just bloody hard elbow grease I have got this far! (I wouldnt recommend this task to my worst enemy! and wish I had paid to have it stripped and polished proffesionally!) Now - I have got back to clean gell, but is is rather 'matt' from the wet and dry - I want it shiney again, so what is the best way? I have been using a sheeps wool mop on an orbital sander with 1200 wey dry and t cut, and have got it shiney, but a 1m2 takes about 1/2 hours - is there a quicker and easier way? Am I using the right method and polishing compound? Adam
  9. Im in also! Have pulled a few strings and now I can make it. Its gunna cost me a day at a Wedding exibition but if it means fishing the Shambles then Ill do it!! Need crew also - Gordon can you make it? If not, then Sam you are also welcome on BW. AF

    Drag Weight?

I need to organise a weight to drag around the Shamles this year. What size should I be looking at for a 16' Warrior? I was considering 5kg (same as my anchor) and using an old 4" diameter pipe filled with lead, basically a massive 5kg pirk? Any other ideas? Adam

    river fishing

Sam, River fishing requires licenses etc, but you can get over this by getting a 1 day rod license and fishing a 'free' stretch of river (owned by the council) or fishing a day ticket water. Their is about 7 miles of free river at Muscliff. If you would like, Ill take you for a day, if we get a weekend of poor weather - I have coarse fished for about 18 years before turning to Sea fishing. Adam

    river fishing

Chub are very wiley and whilst they will eat anything - can be tricky to catch. Plugs work well in the river - Pike, Perch and Chub will all take them - summer is usually a batter time when the water is warmer the fish are more willing to chase a plug. If you want to borrow any books Sam, let me know - I have loads on freshwater fishing. Adam

Just thought you may like to see this - if you want a copy PM me with your email and ill sned one to you for your own personal use. I have ammended the standard Mayday call card which I keep on the boat to take into account I know have a callsign and an MMSI number - also the proceedure now just involves pressing a button. Adam

    Warrior 165

Kod, Why do you need to grease the unit? The Warriors (newer models anyway) come with no feedback steering which is meant to be a little stiff to prevent the boat from wondering. Ill have a look at mine in a bit and see if I can see a grease nipple, but im 99% sure they dont have one at the console end, just some at the outboard end as this is the only exposed section. Adam
  18. Another point: If anyone wants to come, but either doesnt have a trailed boat, is moored in Poole and too far / slow to steam round or just doesnt have a boat but still want to come - then no problem! We always need crew to fill the trailered boats and will always fit you in. Adam
  19. Thanks for the response. It promises to be a good day, weather permitting. To clarify a few things. 1.) You dont have to be a member to come along on the trail-aways, anyone is welcome and we will make you feel right at home, although joining the club is an advantage - for instance we will have your boat details and names, so talking on VHF channel 6 becomes much easier and also safer. 2.) Yes the slip is the one below the bridge in the town centre. Their is no sixe limit, infact you could easily launch a 40' not problem. Trailer park is alos provided, but car parking is a nighmare and requires a 10 minute walk. 3.) Finally, The Shambles bank is approx 7 miles offshore. It is suceptable to big tides and the wind and can very quickly turn nasty. Im not wanting to put people of - the reverse infact, but those with small open boats may be better finding a crew space on a larger vessel for safety - just a bit of advice. Adam
  20. Well.....just to buck the trend - I use a 6' spinning rod. It is an Abu Conolon, and is the single handed baitcasting stle rod. I bought it mail order last year for

    Warrior 165

Possibly - but these never really need greasing and they are pretty much a sealed unit - but without a better description I dont know.

    Warrior 165

Hi Kaptin Kod, I presume you are talking about the trailer wheels, and I presume you have an Indespension Rollercoaster?? If so the grease points are behind the rubber bearing savers on the hub - slide this off and you should see a nipple in the middle. Adam
  23. Finally, spring is only round the corner, and we can begin to think about the eagerly awaited spring trip down to Weymouth. Im looking at Sunday 17th April at the moment, as the begining of the month is already pretty full - and this should allow us time for the flatties to get into full swing. The arrangements will be as previosu years - but for those who dont know, we try to get as many boats as possible to join us for a day on the Shambles chasing flatties. We will meet on the slipway in Weymouth at 7.00/7.30am. Post here if you fancy it! Adam
  24. Happy Birthday Dean, have a good one! Adam
  25. With the weather looking so good this week, and the tides not being too big and Gordon wanting to break his conger duck, Dawn Raider and Blue Warrior opted for an ealy start this morning. Launching at 6.30am, the plan was to steam to a wreck out to the west and anchor for eels. A oily sea meant a lovely 20 knot cruise and in under an hour we were there. At first the tide was banging through, so we rigged up some Stormies on 12' tails and had a few drifts over the steel. The target was pollock, and I felt quietly confident as the sounder showed alot of fish over the wreck. Having never tried this type of fishing from BW I was keen to catch and prove I could do it. After a couple of drifts we began to get a few hits - but no hook ups. I then was in, but it spat the hook half way up. Gordon was the star of the morning though, as he hooked into a crash diving beauty, not massive about 3/4lb, but we were chuffed to have proved the method. By now the tide had dropped to 1.8 knots, so in with the anchor and down with the cuttle. Sport wasnt as hectic as last time, but after 1/2 hour, it was the man Gordon again, hooking into his virgin eel!!! It gave a really hard scrap to begin with and the grin across his face told it all! Not a beast, but around 25lb, fairly respectible. We then noticed the Lulworth Range Boat approaching only to be told that we had picked the only day of the year when they use the long range gunners and we had to move - gutted. Just as we were told this, both of my rods hooped over and another brace of eels came aboard. The action looked to be hotting up - and we had to move. We were escorted East into the clear zone. We spent an hour or so find a few wrecks, then anchored on the Spoils, but nothing here, so at 1.30pm we came on in. You may have noticed that I havent listed the catches on DR....well that was because their wasnt any!!...Paul D and James just sat and watched all morning. James had the usual excuses, but as they say the proof is in the pudding. I hope this isnt marking the start to James' year!!
