Charlie - Neil at Bournemouth Fishing Lodge has already offered us a set of Reuben Heaton's for cost. Let me know if we want them - we could do with a tri-pod at the same time. Adam

Dave, No I didnt think about the keel plate - I have never had a problem here, so I dont think its worth it - the keel band however is invaluable. Ill let you know how I get on. I have a 50mm section at 3000mm long which wil go from the stern to abotu 3/4 the way up, from here it narrows over about 600mm to 20mm width - here I intend to grind the profile. The 20mm section is 1600mm long which takes me up to the winch eye. I may not go this far however, I may stop just where the keel begins to rise. Ill probably do a write up and pictures for the site if I get time. Adam

I dont know if that was a joke Kam - or serious??.... The only way you would get them two to mix is to add an egg to make a mayonaise!!

Stainless Steve is the well known guy from Lymington who makes thigs from steel... Stainless Pete is a closely guarded secret! ... Ill let you know tonight Gordon.. Yes Peter is a club member.

A cunning plan..... ' a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!!'......

Decided that enough was enough, and after 3 postings on the forum talking about it, I decided to have a go. Looking back to last year Mad Mike (anyone spoke to him?) suggested calling Ferrai's on the Woolsbridge for some Stainless Steel. I called them this morning and they couldnt have been more helpful. I bought 3 lengths of SS to do BW and Splash Out for

Sorry Kam, but you can buy them this weekend at the boat jumble for

I got it from my local shop - ill have a look over the weekend and get you a spool. I am responsible for organising the club trail-aways, and yes would consider a trip to Langstone.....not for the plaice though - from the reports I have heard over the past few years it seems as though the plaice fishing at Portsmouth area is as poor as Poole bay - I think most of us will stick to Weymouth! Would be interested in fish Utopia and such areas though??

Steve, My apologies - I said I would get you some. I think it was called 'Pro Leader' but I can remeber and the label has rubbed off my spool. Would you like me to get you a spool and post it to you? Adam

I had skate wings baked in butter and white wine last night...mmmmmm! It was the first time I have skinned and prepared a skate - I followed the process as detailed by Des Westwood in BFM a couple of months ago. What a treat they were - definatly recommend. Adam

I have a swinging pin on mine that does a good job of supporting the engine - even without this the hydraulic trim and tilt stops the engine dropping, BUT - Tony at Select Marine, STILL advised to chock the engine with a piece of softwood - takes the stress out the the mechanics when bumping along a road. I think the drag washers need drying / cleaning... where are they and how do I get to them?
-
I have service all of my lever drags this year, but have a bit of a problem with them...they all work ok, except when I need to use the drag on a running fish - it is very 'sticky' and slips in a jagged motion, not giving line smoothly to a running fish...what is this and how do I cure it? Adam

Just had a quick chat with Dick at Burnham - he has given us this link....it seems we are now famous (infamous??!!) http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/boat-fishing-competition.shtml

I have been after an uptider for a while now, but always struggle with the current offerings on the market as I find them too restricted, i.e they are fine for what the are designed for, but whilst they will double up for other types of fishing they are not ideal. I bought a Penn Giller Thriller about 2 months ago, not because I needed another rod, but because it was a good deal. North east Angling were doing buy one get one free offer, so it worked out at

If anyone took any photos yesterday could they email them to me? I have just finished the write-up of the trip yesterday, but I need a few more photos before I send it off to BFM. Paul is going to add this to the reports section on the main site also. Adam

Ill post a load of pictures when we add the article, but here was the view at 10am....this was about a 1/4 of the total number of boats!

Well - I must say that that was one of the best days I have had out so far. All in all a wondeful day. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we were a little aprehensive before we left - thoughts of launching from deep mud into a fast flowing sea, running the breakers back to the shore and massive tides didnt help! The chaps from BBO SAA couldnt have been more helpful - they assisted in tactics, safety and launching and were a great friendly bunch. ....so to the day! The trip there went without too much hastle, just a loose wheel nut on Neo, and after 2 hours we arrived at Burnham. After a quick spot of breakie in the Cafe, we headed to the beach to get the boats ready. We were soon joined by a few Burnham boats, which increased to over 20 by 10am!! All of the PBSBAC boats were launched very quickly by the tractor and at 10.30am we were off! With depths no deeper than 30' and a coffee coloured water it was a little different to the conditions at home. Fish began to bite straight away. BW's final tally was just over a dozen Thornback Rays to 10lb a couple of congers and a few whiting - Ill let the others post theirs. The day passed quickly, as it does when youre having fun, and we found ourselves saftey retraved by 5.30pm for the weigh in and presentation. Ill be writing a thank you letter to BBO SAA and also doing a short article for the forum and BFM. Thanks to all those who made the effort to come and to our navigator - Bob F. ....Im off to bed, Im shattered and I have a boat covered in brown mud to clean before work in the morning!! Adam

Interestingly I tried to upload my waypoints to the card a few days ago to save me loosing them again, and the unit told me the crad was 'Read Only'....thats a Garmin Unit.
-
Ill forget it then! Thanks Barry. Anyway - I know what the top speed of my boat is....its when the throttle is hard down! and the tide is behind me!
-
Just checked the local ones - the numbers are not bad, but a little out...the last 2 decimals.

Benny, Thanks for the compliment on the site. Youll never have the problem here of net getting an answer - the older the site gets the quicker the reply! As for Brownsea: Its a bit better tucked away, so you should be quite safe from the wash of the main channel, although beware that about 3/4 small passenger ferries use the boarding jetty about once an hour, youll have to keep and eye out and move for them. The fishing is OK, dont anchor, always drift it, even close in the depth is over 12', it is very rocky, but expect Wrasse, Pollock and Pout - the odd bass turns up towards the Poole end where it gets sandier. Lures are ok - If I were you I would pick a very early morning trip before the boat traffic picks up and troll plugs etc around the harbour entrance - about 5am ish...the bass will love these. Adam
