    wrecks

Hi Dan, Newboy is right, the majority of the inshore wrecks around the country are fished out. You may find pout, wrasse and possibly a few bream on them, but generally not worth the effort. Your time will be best spent either picked a good forecast and heading out to the 10-15 mile wrecks (Im still waiting for a window this year!) or picking reef marks. But then again,...what do I know - wrecks are underwater obstructions, which in turn attract fish..so give it a bash and see what turns up. Anchoring correctly is crucial to fishing on the wreck..a plotter is of great help. Drifting allows more chances of drifting directly over the wreck..but again a plotter really helps. Adam

    Wheel bearing

Ahhhh....the irish screwdriver!...know it well. This is mainly learnt from Jimbo....if soemthing breaks on Tara, out comes the 'irish screwdriver', a good thump and its usually fixed!! The safety inspectors must have laughed when they did Tara's inspection....opening the toolkit only to find a hammer!!!!
  3. Dan, This is certianly not uncommon, but 7 bass to 4lb is a right result!!...better to put them in the freezer than mackerel any day!!! We get them every year off the ledge when feathering, but only in a blue moon. adam

    Rod holders

Cheers guys - I was thinking along the lines of the co-extruded stuff. I can get it from work, but in big quants, so I will take you up on that offer. If it doesnt work out, off to Space Age Plastics....incidently, where are they??
  5. I have seen these on a few charter boats now. They are made by Sowester and are basically a 'pocket' made from plastic that you screw to a vertical surface and is used to store Tbars, pliers etc. I have had a good look and cant find them anywhere?? Any ideas?

    Rod holders

As we have discussed in the past - many things for the marine industry are ludicrously expensive for what they are! I have been after a set of 'rifle rack - rod holders' for a while now. These are vertical holders that fit to the gunwhale of your boat, and hold rods, nets, hooks etc in a horizontal position. I had toyed with the idea of using hardwood from work, but as BW is all plastic and white fibregalss, I really want to keep to plastic or fibreglass. I found a set of these holders on www.nautequipe.co.uk, they are
  7. Trust you to notice that!!! I havent a clue! - being a bloke, Ive never read the instructions for the camera, just took it out of the box and clicked away.....probably should find out how to remove or set the date
  8. Mark's Brill taken on Loyal Royal, Sunday, Shambles, Weymouth.
  9. Loyal Royal with me and Paul J as crew joined Maverick with Bob F, for a spot of bassing on the Shambles on Sun. Billy sorted us out with a bucket of live eels - (thanks Billy, you are a star!!) and at 8.30am we headed out to the banks. We started well with fish on the first 4 drifts to all rods, but then the tide slackened a little at about 11ish, so we had a play around elsewhere with mixed success with Bream, Gurnard, Bass etc. The tide picked up again at 1pm, but was against wind - which had freshend to around a F4, which made fishing a little lumpy! Bass were back on the feed though, and we caught reasonably steady throughout the afternoon. Not big fish, averaging about 1.5-2lb, but good fun. Mark B was the star of the day taking a 4lb Brill on his live eel! Finished off on the Hood for 1/2 hour. Final tally: 30ish bass, 1 brill, 2 bream, 1 gurnard. Enjoyable day - cheers guys!
  10. Cheers Martin, Tides look 1.) Good for the bass! 2.) Good for launching - plenty of water on the slip. Shall we all meet on the slip at 7.30am? We will then be launched at 8, ready to get eels at 8.15am and get out for the last of the flood. Maverick - Martin & Bob Loyal Royal - Adam, Mark & Paul I will ring you all, but see you in the morning!
  11. Billy, Couldnt you have held it out a little further!!!!
  12. All, The latest species / tactics article has now been published on the main page. Have a look!! Adam
  13. hmmm,,...as am I!!! Billy, do you fancy crewing for me on Sun?? If so, maybe Maverick and BW with Bob & Billy for crew could hit Weymouth? Adam
  14. Well, after the glowing reports Billy gave on Weymouth..who fancies a trip to Weymouth next weekend? Adam
  15. Undecided?... Similar to you. 1.) Little tides and crew I will go west 2.) Big tides and crew - either Weymouth or the needles banks 3.) Most likely option is that I will launch later and fish later on the ledge for eels? What do you fancy? Adam
  16. Martin, Dont quite know yet? I have a pass from the FPO for Sun, but have no crew and dont know where to go?? Where are you going? Adam
  17. Sun is looking the best day for me both weather and time wise. Anyone else going out? I will probably go regardless, so will need crew also, any takers?

    local marks

Dan, If you want to try the ledge for eels, just let me know...you are more than welcome to fish alongside us one night. BTW - Night is generally best time for eels on the ledge. To get them during the day, you need to be 100'+ of water off the back of the Needles. Adam

Easy to catch!!!...only if youre me or my 16 year old brother!!!...how many did you manage last time Rich!!!
  21. Nice one Newboy!! I'm well pleased for you! - I think the Cormoron was the best option - quite jealous actually!! www.boats&outboards.co.uk is the best place to look - hundreds of engines are available - just a case of waiting. I would say however that I would advise you to spend as much money as is possible on the engine - it probably is more critical than the actual boat itself. Fibreglass rarely breaks - engines do. Seeing then running is a big advantage also. Good luck! - Ill keep my eyes pealed!! Fitting the boat out is also a huge task - BW came kitted out pretty good, but since I have spent a small fortune!...Im a way it is better I feel, at least this way you get what you want, where you want it, you get to fit it - so you know how it works when it breaks! etc, etc. If you need a hand or any advice - just ask.
