    Flourocarbon

    Good for the bass methinks!
  3. That'll teach you to go flying through Xchurch harbour at 18knots in 6" of water!!
  4. I had 2 in as many minutes on the Sun of the 48hr. Sat at anchor off Xchurch when a small fotilla came past - the last 2 were online for my bow....I started the engine and was ready to welly it to aviod a collision - as you said, a few heart stopping moments!...in the end both of them missed me by about 10 feet. I just stood in sheer disbelief!!!
  5. I personally find it really hard to hold the bottom when it's as rough as that.....bites are a bi%^tch to see!

    Keel Band

Blimy!! - This is Steve Marley I presume?? Didnt he have hairline cracks from the trailer somewhere on the hull also??. I too would love a S/S keelband, but after reading that I think the best option would be to go back to Warrior. Unless Shytalk can offer any advice? Adam
  7. Paul - eh???? Arent you coming out on QT? Why does a bad forecast sound good????
  8. Would say that QT on Thurs is looking unlikely at the mo??...Hopefully things will change
  9. ......No???!!!
  10. Thanks Marc - very helpful, and also re-assuring. Adam
  11. Marc, Weve been out 4x4 shopping today, and the balance is tipping towards the Rav4. Id be interested to hear your views all round about them. I appreciate you struggled (the whole point of this thread) with the boat on the sand, but bearing in mind all of my launching / retreaving is done on concrete slips, do you think I will be OK? The stats give max trailer weight of 1500kgs (my boat is 1200kg) and has a torque figure of 141lb/ft. Not brave enough to trust a freelander, the RAV4 looks a good comprimse, as it will spend 98% of its like nipping around town - shopping!. BTW what model is yours? We are looking at a 5dr VX 2.0l 2002 model. Adam
  12. OK, The general opinion seems to be to leave Weymouth and the Bass for a while. Paul D has suggested the Nab Tower for a trip. What do we think? I know nothing about this part of the country so we need to pull our heads together here first. Adam
  13. OK Billy - nice one. If we can look at maybe August - that will give us time for the bassing to really pick up. Let me know a few dates and well put it on the calander. ALL - In the meantime - look at the newest thread. http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=733&hl=
  14. This is something I have thought about for a while now. How do you guys do it? When we come back in off the ledge, we go for one person either out of the front hatch, or standing over the cuddy - with a high power spot light. I have my plotter on, and follow my track line back in. We have pot bouy to dodge, as well as shallow sand bars and of course Xchurch harbour, although the plotter helps here. Charter skippers though, just seem to follow their instruments and plod on in. I tried this at the weekend, and found it like walking along the pavement with my eyes shut! - I could only do it for about a minute before I got paranoid about hitting something. I'd be interested to hear how others do it. Also I am considering getting a Nite Tracker 2,000,000 CP spot. Anyone have any views on these? My current spot is a cheapy
  15. I have 2 batts fitted to my boat, thorugh an isolation swtich. I also have a removable solar charger that plugs into the ciggie thingy. Question? - In which position should I set my switch when I have the solar panle plugged in and charging? obviosuly it will not be 1 or 2. But should it be OFF or BOTH????????? I appreciate this will only give a very small charge, but it is to keep them topped up more than anything, and as it is fitted into the Tonneau cover, I soon as well use it when Im not out in the boat! Adam
  16. Give me some then???? Im open to suggestions?
  17. Nice boat Malroy! - and a cracking piccie also, she looks really good in the sun! We are lucky down this way. We dont even have the choice of beach launching, everything is done on slipways. But a good word of warning. Even on slips, being over confident with a 4wd is dangerous, several of the slips around here can be trecherous and demand care. Do you want me to tell you how to load the piccie as an Avatar (little picture that shows by your username in the left hand box? adam
  18. Going with Popular demand - The next trail-a-way will be Weymouth, fishing for Bass. This is a new one to me, so any advice greatly appreciated. PM me if you want it to be secure, or post here and Ill give you my phone number. Dates??? What do we think? what tides do we need? I may plan to fish both days, and stay overnight on a mooring? So we could offer either Sat or Sun to any boats who wish to fish. Is this OK with everyone? In the 1st instance can I have a rough idea on who wants in? Adam

    Offshore 105

Dave, Seems to be plenty of Offshores and Lochins around at the moment. Boats&Outboards has at least 5 on their site. Have you sold Bagleys Honour yet? Adam

    Illusion

By Jesus! - Literally! Very clever - only problem is now....all I can see is his face!
  22. What really gets me is why fish like Skate, Tope and Eels win in the 1st place?? Like someone is likely to kill a 212lb skate for the table.... OK it may be a better specimen that the Bass, but the price is for the most worthy catch and release..surely they should be awarding people returning scarce fish like bass. I though my 11lb 15oz would get it last year - but it went to a Tope....
  23. 1st of all, many thanks to all who entered the comp this weekend. It was really nice to see such a positive response to the hard work the 'new' comp. commite put in. Those who made it to the Mariners afterwards - thanks - it was a slightly new format than previous years, with the emphasis on all meeting for a small prize giving afterwards at the Mariners - as it is not often we meet after a club match. I think you will all agree it was a success. The weather was far kinder this year than last, and this allowed us to put to sea every day of the comp, the sun shone, and as a result we had some cracking fished logged in. I havent had the chance yet to work the full final tally, but I will do today and Ill post them when I have - but here is the Winners podium!: 1st - James Parker. Bass, 9lb 12oz - 102.63% 2nd - Tom Smith. Tope, 45lb - 100% 3rd - Duncan Mackie. Undulate Ray, 14lb - 100% 3 cracking fish - rightly deserved. For me it was an interesting learning curve. It showed that organising an event like this, no matter how much work, and how well your prior planning is - something is bound to go wrong and things never run smoothly! Several things have been learnt, and taken onboard - hopefully next year will go a little smoother! Thanks Adam F
