    Flourocarbon

Newboy - we use flurocarbon as a leader/trace when fishing for shy or line sensitive fish, Bass, Mullet etc. Still braid as a mainline..... Rich - This is all I use for a leader when fly fishing, you simply cannot beat it!

    Keel Band

Coddy, Yep, I understand what you mean...my trailer is the same. the 2nd keel roller acts to keep it all straight when recovering the boat. At present I have no gripes with my rubber rollers so will keep them. Also I though Id struggle without a keel band, but so far it has been OK, so if it aint broke, why fix it??? Coddy, If you want a tub, PM me your address and Ill post one to you. Cheers Adam
  3. Just thought you may want to see what Southbourne looked like at 4.30pm today. Force 8 gales as predicted....why is it they always get it right when the weather IS going to be bad!! Will it die for the weekend?...probably not. I can see it getting very busy drifting the castle on Sun!!!!
  4. Yes, but did you CATCH anything!??!!! ...dont tell me you didnt take a rod///

    Trailer Tyres

I can only get mine to about 34/5 PSI. So thats where they stay! When I 1st got the boat I was a little alarmed as they seemed to bugle a little when underway. However I think 35 is about right, and the 'give' in the tyres gives a nice soft ride.

I like the idea of nylon rollers, but am concerned about the lack of 'cushion' the boat will get from the harder nylon. I have heard of stress cracks appearing along the hull from trailering??>....

    Trailer Tyres

Good points Malc. I too have heard issues about the tyres on trailers, esp. Warrior/Indespension. I think I have 6ply on mine, 165 I think? Havent heard about changing the tyres every 4 years though...I will cetianly adopt that poilicy. What with flares and tyres going out of 'date' ...it gets pretty expensive!!
  8. Nope it's just a boggo 4wd. But I think for what I need it for it will cope fine. I think you are right the 5dr is the better chioce. Not many around though, more 3drs - but hell, they are small inside. Although she has a KA at the moment, so she will be used to it!
  9. Senior moment.......

Gorilla Tubs. - The big flexible yellow ones. I do have an anchor locker on BW, but when using the alderney ring, the warp and kit doesnt go back in while at sea, so I need to store mine. I have one of the big black bins with 2 rope handles, and one of the 'Faulks Gorila Tubs'. These are basically made for plastering etc. They are soft and flexible and never break. The first time I used the black bin as an anchor store the anchor split the sides as they are quite brittle. These gorilla tubs are the nuts. Mine is big enough to hold 300mtrs of rope, anchor and chain and my alderney ring and bouy - just. But I only have the medium one. Coddy - if you want one, give me your rough location and Ill tell you where our nearest branch is. - They only cost about
  11. I think that Rach and I have settled on the Rav4. A few queries though you guys may be able to help with. Basically the car will be fine for what she wants it for, shopping, work, shopping, shopping...you get the picture. However I want to hitch 1300kgs of boat to it and drive it up bumpy, slippy ramps! Looking at the tecnical stats and using my basic engineering knowledge I surmise the following. Kerb Weight: 3 Door 1330kgs, 5 Door 1385kgs Max Tow Cap. (braked) 1500kg Torque: 141lbs / ft Is this all I need to know...is this ok for what I need it for? Final question....The Tow Cap. and the Torque are the same, but the kerb weights are slighly diff, by 50kgs. The 3 door suits our needs better, so will 50kgs make much differnece to its pulling capacity?
  12. Well done Kim!...its somthing I want to try more this year!

    Flourocarbon

    Good for the bass methinks!
  14. That'll teach you to go flying through Xchurch harbour at 18knots in 6" of water!!
  15. I had 2 in as many minutes on the Sun of the 48hr. Sat at anchor off Xchurch when a small fotilla came past - the last 2 were online for my bow....I started the engine and was ready to welly it to aviod a collision - as you said, a few heart stopping moments!...in the end both of them missed me by about 10 feet. I just stood in sheer disbelief!!!
  16. I personally find it really hard to hold the bottom when it's as rough as that.....bites are a bi%^tch to see!

    Keel Band

Blimy!! - This is Steve Marley I presume?? Didnt he have hairline cracks from the trailer somewhere on the hull also??. I too would love a S/S keelband, but after reading that I think the best option would be to go back to Warrior. Unless Shytalk can offer any advice? Adam
  18. Paul - eh???? Arent you coming out on QT? Why does a bad forecast sound good????
  19. Would say that QT on Thurs is looking unlikely at the mo??...Hopefully things will change
  20. ......No???!!!
  21. Thanks Marc - very helpful, and also re-assuring. Adam
  22. Marc, Weve been out 4x4 shopping today, and the balance is tipping towards the Rav4. Id be interested to hear your views all round about them. I appreciate you struggled (the whole point of this thread) with the boat on the sand, but bearing in mind all of my launching / retreaving is done on concrete slips, do you think I will be OK? The stats give max trailer weight of 1500kgs (my boat is 1200kg) and has a torque figure of 141lb/ft. Not brave enough to trust a freelander, the RAV4 looks a good comprimse, as it will spend 98% of its like nipping around town - shopping!. BTW what model is yours? We are looking at a 5dr VX 2.0l 2002 model. Adam
  23. OK, The general opinion seems to be to leave Weymouth and the Bass for a while. Paul D has suggested the Nab Tower for a trip. What do we think? I know nothing about this part of the country so we need to pull our heads together here first. Adam
  24. OK Billy - nice one. If we can look at maybe August - that will give us time for the bassing to really pick up. Let me know a few dates and well put it on the calander. ALL - In the meantime - look at the newest thread. http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=733&hl=
  25. This is something I have thought about for a while now. How do you guys do it? When we come back in off the ledge, we go for one person either out of the front hatch, or standing over the cuddy - with a high power spot light. I have my plotter on, and follow my track line back in. We have pot bouy to dodge, as well as shallow sand bars and of course Xchurch harbour, although the plotter helps here. Charter skippers though, just seem to follow their instruments and plod on in. I tried this at the weekend, and found it like walking along the pavement with my eyes shut! - I could only do it for about a minute before I got paranoid about hitting something. I'd be interested to hear how others do it. Also I am considering getting a Nite Tracker 2,000,000 CP spot. Anyone have any views on these? My current spot is a cheapy
