Space is always at a premium on boats such as ours. I noticed on the Alderney trip that Tiger Lily has her compass right in the middle of her potter and sonar, so it cant be too bad??? I have tested the compass away from all of the units, and the reading remains the same when they are switched on - so no magnetic deflection. How can I alter the electronic units?? Are they adjustable? Adam

Can anyone advise me on where to go to get a set of graphics done?? I want 16 letters to go on the transom. About 3-4", I have had an online quote and they want almost 40 quid!!! Surely I can get them done locally cheaper?? Adam

Right - the 182C arrived whilst I was in Alderney. Fitted it today. I have played with Marks unit (no jokes please!) so I knew what to expect in terms of performance. I opted against using the Furuno GPS Anntena to dual feed both units. Basically I want to keep the GPS as a back up - running the plotter from this unit defeats the object - so now I have 2 x independant units. Fitting was simple. As I wanted to use the Garmin ariel, I needed to mount it somewhere. Ideally I would have had another S/S plate welded to the flybridge to keep it matching, but the wires running inside would have melted, so I have opted for the plastic mount, and cable tie option. It looks OK, but not fantastic. I have also cross wired the Plotter and my FF using the NMEA cables. The manual says I could do this, but I havent a clue why I would want to?? Can someone enlighten me? The only other thing I have noticed is that the Compass, the GPS and the Plotter all have different bearing readings - this is not good, anyone have any ideas as to why? Marks out of 10? - 8. Adam

Does anyone have one of them word/number printer thingys??? I need one to adjust the properties of my fuse board - ie GPS, FF, Plotter etc... I think it prints / embosses onto self adhesive plastic. Adam

The trophy will the 'The Alderney Challange' This is a new trophy I intend to donate to the club. As it looks as if we will make this trip an annual affair - it seems a good idea. The winner will be the captor of the best 'Alderney' specimin (bass, turbot or brill) and I think we will all agree Rich's fish wins 2004. Ill bring it to the next club meeting to be awarded. Adam

I thought Id start a new thread for all of the catch reports. I will just report on mine also - as I suspect the others will want to do their own. Well - what can I say! Bloody Weather! As most of you will have gathered our 4 day trip turned into a 2 day trip courtesy of the bad weather. Mon saw us stop on 3 wrecks on the way over. Pollock, Ling, Pout and Conger all scoring with mixed success. But thoroughly enjoyable as not something us small boats get to do very often (at all?) Tues and Weds - force 8/9 heavy rain. No chance of getting out of the harbour, so rock fishing on the lee side of the island. Not great still a little early in the year. Plenty of scenic walking, a few beers, loads of chatting and plenty of micky taking filled the time! Thurs - force 3/4. FISHING!!!! Finally we got out. Plan to fish the banks all day and bash home in 1 go. This really showed the potential of the fishing. In just under 6 hours we had several nice turbot, a small bass to Rich JAW (!!! ) several other bass, plenty of pollock, and a few bits and bobs. The grounds around Alderney spoil you for choice, reefs, wrecks, banks, shoals, ledges - fishing heaven - everywhere you go looks fishy! I think everyone really enjoyed the trip - even though we had the 2 crap days, a good time was had by all - were already booked for next year!!! PS: I will be writing a short story on the trip with a picture gallery, I will post when its done. If anyone has any photos they want to be included - if they send them to me I will gather them for publishing. Adam

Malroy - Good to have another member aboard! - welcome. I agree - I also watch many of the forums you mentioned and find that they are indeed infected with alot of either political rubbish or stupid chit chat. As one of the the forum admin we try to delete any of this which appears - although it evry seldom does. I find it a fantastic way to communicate to a huge spectrum of people from all over the world - and with a subject as intricate as boats and fishing it is invaluable. The site address for the plotter is: www.sportextreme.com Mine isnt here yet, but should be very soon!

Much has been written on this forum about this subject, so Ill not go over it again. Dispite my problems - I have just been a little worried about ordering abroad as its the first time with alot of cash. I would recommend it - just a few points to consider. 1.) Know your market price - and do your research - are you really getting such a good deal? If so is it worth the risk for what you will save. I saved over

Panic over - hopefully. I had a response in the end - took 5 emails and 4 days though. But all is ok - they sent it Tues, so should be here Fri. Ill let you all know what its like when it arrives. Adam

Youre right - of course the correct answer is the wife.

Do you want the real answer or the politically correct answer??

Right, I think we will aim for Sat 29th May for the Solent trip. This gives us the option of Sun, nearer the time should the weather be iffy. Is this OK with everyone? We will aim to launch from Lymington slipway at about 7.30am - so arrive at 7am, all in the water by 8am. Hopefully local fishing guide DaveUK will be on hand to guide us - but basically a trip out to the West of the Solent to stock up on Mackeral, then down to the East to sit at anchor for Rays and Smoothies. So who is coming?? Blue Warrior will be there - James has 1st shout, but may be working, so might need crew. Rich JAW? Cheers

I have sent the plotter back last Thurs via UPS Express. It arrived last Fri at 3pm (e-tracking) Since then I have emailed asking for a date when I will recieve the replacement - but heard nothing. Not too concerned yet, as only really had 2 days - but begining to worry a little. What comeback do I have with an internet based company if they fail to send the replacement. I have kept copies of all of the transactions and all emails exchanged??? Adam

Paul - Nothing wrong with a Freelander. In fact we are in exactly the same situation, and are also looking a a freelander. Unless you are towing a 4 ton rig, the freelander will be fine for your types of boats - the only thing I will metion is that they are perminant 4WD, so more wear on the tyres - the Suzuki's are switchable as it is not really needed 90% of the time. But good solid cars though. My astra copes fine with towing the Warrior on the road - it just struggles for traction on any slip bar Baiter. A Freelander will enable you to launch and retreave anywhere. Adam

Billy. http://www.ukhooks.com Mike is the guy - lovely chap. The hooks you need are long shank streamer hooks. All the advantages of circle's, ie improved hooking, and no deep hookers, plus you can thread a ragworm, instead of having to just nick it.
-
Right chaps. Next trail-a-way. Solent - Targeting rays amd smoothies as last year (hopefully with more sucess and less thunder! ) Dates: 22/23rd May or 29/30th May. Done mind where we launch from, although Lymington was good last time, we all know where it is, and is good for even the big boats. What do we think? Adam

I use Hokkies. The green and pink rubber squid type. I suppose the hooks are about a 2/4? I bait them with small thin squid strips. The method I fish them is to lower to the bottom, and gently 'bounce' the rig - the bream tend to be suckers for a moving bait.
