The best Ive tasted is using 'Coffee Bags' Ian often brings these with him, and I must say they taste as good as a freshly ground coffee - well worth hunting down. Just take boiling water, pour on, add milk - strangley so much better than instant coffee.

I think this is a superb site. I always find the stocks that tackle shops keep dissapointing - I guess that cant justify holding a huge stock of rings for the odd broken tip - but when I take in a

Firstly a huge well done to all who fished, what a superb turnout for what is usually a very average comp in terms of entrants - we had over 30 anglers fish, I suspect the nice weather helped, but regardless - well done. Secondly it's nice to see a good few fish weighed in - not all monsters, but all the same, great to see some smaller year class of rays showing - the beasts of tomorrow! Ive taken these off the other comp thread, if you have more to book in please enter them here: RAYS George Fox - Spotted Ray - 3lb - 54.55% Carol Fox - Spotted Ray - 2lb 12oz - 50% Mike Fox - Blonde Ray - 1lb 12oz - 7.61% Paul Frey - Blonde Ray - 5lb 2oz - 22.28% Alun Jones - Blonde Ray - 5lb 3oz - 22.55% Dave Samual - Blonde Ray - 10lb 5oz - 44.84% Mike 02380 - Thornback Ray - 11lb 2oz - 85.58% Pete Russell - Small Eyed Ray - 11lb 8oz - 104.55% Craig White - Blonde Ray - 18lb - 78.26% Dave Evans - Blonde Ray - 19lb - 82.61% Jackie White - Blonde Ray - 22lb - 95.65% Neil Sturt - Blonde Ray - 23lb 6oz - 101.63% Gordon Holt - Blonde Ray - 2lb 12oz - 11.96% Charlie Chapman - Blonde Ray - 5lb 11oz - 24.73% Charlie Annear - Thornback Ray - 1lb 11oz - 12.98% FLATFISH Colin Francis - Flounder - 2lb 4oz - 90% Well done guys, looks like Peter Russell & Colin are in the lead so far!

Unless you're got money to chuck around I'd keep it on your drive! IMO paying to store a 16' boat when youve got space to store it is a waste. Sure they will launch it for you etc, but how hard is a 16' boat to launch and retreave? Most marinas charge for 7m as a min, so I'd have thought you'll be looking at

With first light being so late 7.15... Al and I managed to sneak a few hours of the morning flood for a crack at the bass. And what a big tide it was! I had to steer a carefull course through the harbour as the big tide had submerged many of the vacant moorings. Bait was hard to find - Al hooked up first chuck but rather than the small 1oz wrasse we were after he hooked into a beast about 3lb! Fishing was hard as a strong F5/6 Easterly blew us into the shore and the rocks and a 4knot flood tide whipped us the other way... I got it wrong once and used up one of JV's 9 lives... we ended up being blown into the 2' water and rocks stern first and I had to gun the engine to get out - clipping a rock but not causing any damage...phew!! Next chuck for me and bang - this isnt a bait fish! A sprited scrap and a real surprise - a 4lb 4oz thick lipped mullet! I usually put these back, but havent ever eaten one so this one went for the pot - in fact it was lovely - had it for tea tonight! The bassing worked too - but we had to reply on the Sidewinder shads - and worked they did... we had 3 bass in 3 drifts before the tide died away. On checking tonight it seems my mullet was 100% specimen and just 2oz under the club record!

Thanks to all for the feedback last night at the meeting. I can confirm that we will hold the club's annual Cod competition as per the original date - 28th Nov and not combine this with the PSA comp later in Dec. I also have to confess to getting my wires crossed at the meeting last night. Last year we agreed on the day to have a

The next club comp is the 17th Oct. This is the Flatfish / Ray Comp. We have a trophy for both the best ray and best flatty. I'll confirm the weather nearer the day. Book in on this thread please or by phone etc to me or the comittee if you wish to fish. 1.)

In out in Spain without access to my work email, so cant pick up photos. If Trev wants it then no problem with me. If not, unless Martin puts the picture on here, I'll catch up with you next week.

Graham, I might interested - but need to see a photo first?
-
Alan, After our discussion and your message - why dont you take a look at the Orkney PH 21? IMO if you want a 21' pilot house for fishing then these take alot of beating - OK they on on an outboard, but again IMO why do youy need a inboard for a 21' boat... Take a look anyway - more in your budget. We have at least 2 in the club.

What's that got to do with my sale? What you vaugely remember was me offering to pull together a group buy if enough people were interested. I got 3 people who wanted them - hardly enough to negotiate a big discount! If you want to try again - feel free! Anyone want my M421

Thought I'd offer this here before it goes on Ebay. Ive got a re-conditioned ICOM M421 VHF fixed Radio for sale. It was fitted to JV but developed a fault and was replaced by me with a new unit. In the meantime Icom have repaired the old unit and sent it back to me - it is now surplus to requirements. RRP was

Nice fish!! Is he a club member? Now the who club knows 'Dereks secret plaice mark' !!!

My only comment would be make sure you get out to sea in one before you buy. Dont be lured by shiney boats and bells and whistles. In my opinion that is the most important thing of all. Ive been on lovely looking boat that are horrible at sea... and ugly ones that are superb! Good luck!

I would have done Charlie - but it's Rach's birthday... not sure that would go down too well! Have a good night.

Thanks Charlie... I know what I mean! It's just you lot!!

Guys - I maybe need to clarify how you book your fish in for this comp. The two categories exist in case that one angler kills his best fish lets say 9lb which is the best booked in, but another angler catches an 8lb'er and returns it... What I'm saying is if you catch an 8lb'er and keep it, you book it in for both categories. I'll re-name the categories... OK?
-
Sorry to be pain chaps - can I ask you all to post your best bass here please, both kept and returned. Ive got a trophy for each, and I'll split the prizes 50/50 which will be a mixture of lures and end tackle. Best Bass: 1) 2) 3) Bass Returned if different from above: 1) 2) 3) Can you copy and paste the above to keep the list neat! Thanks

We too had a sh$te day on JV. The best laid plans and all that. We had a forced late start due to the late LW, pushed alot of tide until we got clear of the headlands, but then encountered the fresh NW'erly.... 20 miles later we were off the back of the IOW, mackeral were hard to find, infact we had 4 between 3 of us in 30 mins... We then started fishing and found over 4 knots of tide at the top of the bank.... so we moved inshore a bit - slightly calmer and less tide but no bass.... so we moved again.... 1pm by this time and weve had about 6 decent drifts, just lots of steaming into the silly tide and going nowhere... .... at 2pm we tried the well known IOW mark, but soon ran out of bait... so of again to find these.... but we couldnt, so back with 2 live baits and shads - 3rd drift we all hook up! HORAY!! ... but 2 fall off, and we get a plump 5lber in the net for Craig.... filled with optimism back up to hook up again... errrr... nope! That was it, so at 4pm I was crabby and fed up so we headed home, having visited pretty much all of the offshore bass marks off the IOW, traveled 55 miles, wasted 70L of diesel and caught 4 mackeral and a bass. Rubbish... infact one of the worst days Ive had out!! Still always next time and all that! Well done to the sensible boys who stayed inshore and caught a few fish!
