  1. Thanks Dave - in that case the first weekend in September looks favourite - slightly smaller tides.
  2. After such a good weekend, I'm planning on repeating it again at the back end of the summer - Weymouth usually fishes well this time of year. So - I dont have a tide book to hand, but I'm thinking of either the weekend of the 3rd or the 10th September? Format - likely to be as this time, as Charlie did such a good job. Down to Weymouth on the Friday, overnight on Fri and Sat and back on Sun. Staying in Portland again, come down by sea, trail down or bring your kayak! Another option could be a simple 2 day trip - down on the Fri or Sat and back on Sat/Sun - keeps the brownie point tin more intact? Who else fancies it?

    radar

I can add to the above: Mine gets used very little.... but when it does - boy is it a boon! The fog we've had the past few weeks doesnt worry me a bit. Sure a good lookout is needed, but with a decent radar if gives you 'eyes' in the murk! Make sure it's set up right and you know how to use it. The demo at the club meet the other week was good for this. The kit isnt quite plug and play, getting it set up correctly makes a huge difference to performance. Finally - we have the Lowrance broadband unit - very good - on a calm sea it will pick up pot buoys not too bad and small fishing boats easily.
  4. What a great weekend! One of the most enjoyable trips out on JV.... and with hardly a fish caught! 'How?' you may ask.... well Rach and I decided to have a short break away on the boat and join in with the Weymouth weekend excellently organised by Charlie. The plan for us was simple - no rods (well maybe the odd sneaky one!) no fishing, just crusing and chillin'! Reub was at grandparents, the sun was shining and the cooler full of cold beer, wine and food and JV was full of fuel! Off we go! First stop was round to Studland to meet up with a few non-club, non-fishing friends and also to drop into the Aquapalooja that Parkstone Bay Marina and Tom Bettle had organised - awesome is all I can say, just a shame it clashed with other plans.... around 30 boats all rafted together close in at Studland - lashings of beer, wine and soft drinks, jugs of Pimms, lovely food, a BBQ, games for the kids and a great atmosphere... very, very good! After a couple of cold Magners and a bite to eat we waved farewell and poked JV West... .... Next stop was Chapman's Pool - Rach took us there and LOVED driving the boat - boy, this was already a great weekend and we had only been on the water 3 hours! Round at Chapmans Pool the sun shone brightly, we were well sheltered from the gentle breeze and as we approached you could easily have been in Maritius - the Purbecks towered above us with a shroud of mist above them and the water glistened a clear turquoise colour.... heaven - we had the Pool to ourselves, so in went the lunch pick... and that's when the dream of the tropics ended.... as we jumped in!!! was a tad cold!... but great fun! After a sneaky fish and a bucket of fat mackerel to 'pay' the babysitters - we cleaned up and steamed West to Portland Marina to meet up with the rest. In the marina at 6pm, and BOY! what a marina this is.... truely superb. The facilities at A1 - around 20 shower units and toilets, all in stone and frosted glass. A first class resturant, marina office and numerous shops. We had a lovely meal in lovely company..... all I'll say is that the girls made us boys look VERY restrained on our Alderney trip! I'll never be able to look at some members in the same light again!! After much merriment and wine we retired to the boats for a restful night in the sheltered marina tied alongside. For Rach and I we needed to get back, so first away at 9.30am and for a change we had wind and tide on our side all the way back - sat at 20 knots we cruised in the morning Sun, and all too quickly were washing down back in the marina. 60 miles covered and 70L of fuel -
  5. Looks like the sharking group wont need to steam 25 miles south next weekend then!

  11. Comp POSTPONED - new date 18th July
  12. Still looking breezy for tomorrow. F4/5 SW so I'll make the call. I'll postpone it until 18th July
  13. The forecast is pretty static - top end of a F4 from the SW - not that great. With relatively few people booked in, I'm minded to postpone. I'll post up here in the morning with a final decision. Adam
  14. I can confirm JV for the trip. Will be just Rach and myself, no fishing rods (well maybe one sneaky one!) and we will be leaving Poole about Sat lunchtime taking a slow scenic cruise down the coast for wine and food sat night, returning to Poole after breakfast onboard Sunday morning. Very much looking forward to it and not rushing around chasing fish!
  15. 1) Adam JV 2) Jim (Small fry) JV 3) Ben (Santabarbra) JV 4) Martin AWOL 5) Dean AWOL 6) Terry Bartell AWOL Need the wind to drop - looking blowey for Sun....
  16. Sure Jim, looking a little windy at the moment, but if it drops the space is yours. Not sure what we will go for yet.....
  17. I can kind of see the point of mono, but Ive been fishing braid for so long - mono now seems like fishing with an elastic band. Ive got 1000 yards of 50lb braid on both my tld25's -I use these for conger, shark and big rays where fish size / wreckage / tide dictate. My rods are 7'6" 50lb Conolons - and the extra length does come in handy.
  18. 1) Adam - space for 2 on JV

    Lost anchor?

I keep reading of club members that have lost anchor gear.... If you buoy it off and mark the position, I'm more than happy to dive and recover it - provided it isnt a silly distance offshore - you havent lost it in some silly deep hole and you are prepared to take me out to it. I dont want paying - just a beer or two will suffice. Adam
  20. Next comp is this Sunday.... for those of you who dont have a sore head after the club BBQ on Sat! Standard format - best specimen wins! Book in here please: 1)

  22. OMG!!! That is my new favourite!!! MMMmmmmmmm! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! I'd still have a South Cat for fishing! http://www.nordhavn.com/86/overview.php4
  23. I'm always looking Nige! For me it would be the black hulled South Cat 38 we saw in Alderney last weekend. She was called Greeta and was regesitered to somewhere in the Netherlands - yes she was a 'charter' boat but she was fitted out in Yacht quality. Dripping in stainless - 3x KAB helmseats across the wheelhouse and a 3/4 length stern transom door. GORGEOUS!!! Wish I had taken a picture!
