  1. Provided the shakedown and testing goes OK, I'm looking to get JV over to Alderney in Aug. It's been 2 years since I last went! The small tides fall around 8th and 22nd so I'll be looking to work in plan A with Alderney or plan B Cherbourg if the weather only allows 48hrs. Any boats up for buddying?
  2. Before and after pics....
  3. Crane off...
  4. THE BIG DAY.... I've been flat out since first light. With the lorry booked for 2pm, and still plenty of jobs to do, it was time to get cracking. The time flew by with the little jobs.. Hoover all the lockers, last few bits to flowcoat, hatches to bolt back on, remove and strap down radar arch, etc. Before I knew it, Percy arrived and we began to strap her up ready to be lifted over the 300 year old workshop, all went without issue and soon we were strapped down ready to go, after a tense 15 mins trying to manoeuvre out of my single track lane onto the main road, he was out and on the way to Poole. We arrived without issues at 5pm, the boys in the hard were great and we soon had her off and found a suitable trailer. A quick dip in the water to check... Nervous times, would she float, would she be biased to one side, would she sit bow down?..... Needn't had worried, she sat slightly bow higher than before (suggesting slightly lighter) and was bob on level. Perfect, and now I can sleep tonight! She's now nestled back on her dry berth ready for new hydro hoses on Sat and then sea trial and few last jobs over the weekend. Take away and a bottle of wine to celebrate tonight! 10 months and 10 days, over 350 separate items ordered and purchased, and I estimate about 1000 man hours and I'm there. A huge thanks to all white have helped me but special mention to Rob, and Bob who I would still be working away now if it wasn't for them, and also to Pete Russell, not only for all of the special fabrications he made, but also the endless advice and also the inspiration, as I'd never have built either boat without knowing him. Looking forward to getting her afloat in the next few days.
  5. THE FINAL PUSH! With the haulage booked for Thurs afternoon, a mad rush today to get the final few bits finished. I opted to fit the safety flooring myself in the end, and to be fair was pretty straight forward. After being in Scotland for 2 days this week I'm came back to it nicely bonded. So flush trimmed the hatches and then turned my attention to the silicone edge beads. After some careful masking they came out looking ace, very pro! The other job today was to re gel the deck and walkways. They have previously been done in a horrible light blue, so que lots of masking, cleaning and flow coating. All was well until I had a little accident...... After 10 months and well over 1000 times up and down the scaffolding around the boat, tonight I was rushing and missed the top rung.... My leg was trapped and I fell sideways I put my hands put to protect my head, which worked to an extent, but I've ended up with mild concussion, a large gash across my wrist and bad grazing pretty much all over. [emoji22] After an hour or so sit down I patched myself up and finished the deck coat, in somewhat pain..... So tomorrow she goes and I'm left with half a dozen bits to sort before she is ready for the sea, so near yet so far!
  6. Bang on Steve. £520 for 6 dinky little hoses... Ouch. Then probably another £200 in labour to get them fitted., as its a leg off job :-(()))
  7. Steve, pleased they went before I launched really, we were only commenting in the morning that they looked perished. I've found the steering hoses 21548719 which come as a set of 4, but what I cant locate is the trim hoses? Are the little ones in behind the steering hoses part of the main hose back to the pump, or are they separate ones? Anyway, hoping to get them ordered and have a go fitting them on Friday. Boat launch now put forward to Thurs. Hoping props will stay shiney for a while, dont forget she lives our of the water! Re. Trim, I've rebuilt the entire loom, with new relays and tested the system back to the HCU, all fine. 12v to the motor has it running fine. So its either the switch or the EVC Adam
  8. If you hang on a few weeks I've loads of kit here if we have a bring and buy?
  9. Sorry for the lack of updates, if you didn't guess we've been pushing flat out with the haulage booked for next sat. It's been a case of 2 steps forward one step back this past few weeks . The list of 30 odd 'easy' jobs have been steadily ticking off, but it's the main jobs that have been the issue. Dan serviced the engine on Sat, and as Rob suggested it took us an hour or so to get it started after realising that it won't start with the engine trimmed up! The tilt trim still isn't working, despite me rebuilding the entire loom, and bob spending several hours on it. We suspect the switch or EVC, it will be a job to get sorted once launched. The £1000 volvo trims tabs only work half, one doesn't work at all. Disappointing. One of the Roca wiper motors sheared a shaft when fitting and the supplier is out of stock, the order isn't in for another 2 weeks. Apart from that it's all good! As she stands this evening, and on top of what Rob and Bob did yesterday, she has been cleaned today, I've fitted the vinyl flooring, and completed all the of the last fiddly tasks. All that now remains is to laminate the new engine box lid, re gel the cockpit in grey, and give the whole boat a cut and polish. I'll fix the trim and tabs once launched. The only other downer on the weekend was the hydro hose that split on Sat when running up the system and dumping 2l of ATF on the driveway. Now I need to shell out £500 on hoses and labour to get them replaced. :-( On the plus side, I get my life back next Sat. Can't wait! Oh... Forgot to mention the supernatural experience both Rob and I both had last night... I'm not in anyway superstitious... But this was weird!
  10. One thing I forgot to mention in all of this, if I wasn't busy enough.... Was that 2 weeks ago a litter of puppies arrived... That's been a full time on in addition to this to contend with! This weekend was less than half a day of work, as Rach has been doing a triathlon and other charity stuff over the weekend. More of the same, just ploughing through the never ending list of little snags. Fitted the last few bits of teak, although they all now need a final sand and fill to blend in, another few hours work! It's never ends. Polished up the duo props today. They came up lovely. Then spent a while cleaning down the outdrive. Really pleased with how this all cleaned up. Finally got the hoses, pumps and outlets for the freshwater system run and fixed in. Very nearly looking like a finished boat now :-)
  11. Quick update from the past 2 evenings. Now the return haulage is booked it adds a bit of pressure to get sorted and these last jobs always seem to take longer than it might seem. Last night I loomed away the last few cable runs, so everything now sits neatly away. Tonight I've installed the gas system, again, 3 hours work to get it all neat and tidy. The last pic is of the underside of the hob unit and explains the benefit of doing this myself.... No gas hoses coiled away in lockers in.... All runs clipped away securely.. Maybe a bit OCD, but as least I know its a quality job.

  13. Another weekend, another full on 2 days of building..... Huge thanks to Rob, once again for dashing over and missing the Open comp to labour for me again. We deserved that 36oz steak last night! Rob has covered all the major detail. With the haulage date now set, I'm left with about 30 snagging jobs to finish. The plus side of these is that they aren't major projects, so it's possible to do a few in a day. Getting a vinyl flooring fitter was proving tricky, but with an extra pair of hands and two heads on the job, I'm stoked with the result. I've trimmed in the floor hatches today. This Altro flooring is reinforced with Ali clippings for grip, and boy it it cruel on tools. Went through several stanley blades and 2 flush router bits trimming it today. I've finished the heads now, so grey flowcoat around the floor, easy to wipe clean and fully waterproof, ideal for hanging wet weather gear in to dry. In here also, ive tidied up the TV cables in some neat ducting ( good idea rob ) I've also finished off the last few bits of teak trim today, which make a huge improvement to the overall finish.
  14. Once again, lack or update, just been pushing hard to finish her. Two big milestones this week. First off, after a monumental effort in getting most of the wiring in, Bob has gone for a much needed holiday, so early this week I've cracked on, and finished off the wiring, the big bonus is that apart rom the fridge, everything works! Mega impressed with the simple, plug and play Garmin system. Easy and simple to use, plus I've upgraded all the software so we are all current. The other big step is booking the haulier. Percy is very busy, so the date has been set for 18th July. Later than I had wanted but, say least I can service the engine and get every last job done before launch.
  15. My apologies for the lack of update for ages. As the summer kicks in, I've been working more than flat out to get her finished and have called in a host of favours. Bob has been up most nights to help with the mountain of wiring, Rob has done loads of full days up here, and Ian has been up too. I've given up the evenings to post on here to be our working. Rather than post up a detailed report of what we have done, I'm just going to do a photo dump. As you would imagine things have kept on a huge way, we now have power to the boat, and as of today we have tested all systems, all good thus far.... But the finishing / snagging list still runs into 50+ http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/20/ffd142e520b79321c5410edfcc2189fc.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/20/9ce3ae948e0f939e97ffc4dc2a5d9867.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/20/16978e42c181eb3b0784693f53cd652d.jpg
  16. Al popped up today whilst I was working from home with a fresh cod from Sunday. What a star! Whilst here, I put the extra pair of hands to good use and we fitted the wiper motors, all of the headlining and down lighters, removed the old graphics and started to bolt on the new swim platform.... 17. This belongs to a friend of a friend, as is suspect arson. Kids were seen leaving the scene with cans of petrol etc...
  18. What great mates I have. Today, warm, sunny and calm, with reports for many of you lot of to sea, Bob and Rob gave up their Sunday and Sunday Lie in for Rob, to spend a day at mine trying to get the last bits done on JV. Superb guys. I owe you Big style. Suffice to say progress was rapid, and I now finally have a to do list to get her finished. Bob started to wire in the final massive loom for the +ve and -ve I finished the battery cables system, rob fitted the stainless roof rails, new mid ship cleats, new deck speakers, new engine vents, the anchor light, the wiper arms, the deck spots and the search light. Getting closer! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Got the battery cables mostly run this evening and all clipped into place, also fitted the 240v shore power sockets and engine and battery room utility lighting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Agree Steve, but then when you look at the whole engine the same applies, steel engine mounts, non stainless clips on all the hoses etc... For circa £20k you would expect more... Once she is re-launched one of the later jobs will be to replace most of this. Beggars belief really, but I guess a dusting of magic green paint does the job?!?'
  21. Stainless radar arch fitted last night, several hours of faffing around making sure it all lines up and everything is neat and tidy, I think you'll agree the end result looks great? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Short evening shift tonight ended up working by torch light.... Have started to run the battery cables, clip in the fuel lines etc. great work if you have OCD making sure all the clips face the same way and are spaced even! A far cry from the previous effort of cables ties hanging from screws! Also stripped the hydraulic trim motor bracket tonight which was well rusted, now ready for painting. 24. Haven't updated for a week or so, combination of working flat out to get her finished, working away all this week and then being ill, then the family being ill.... Anyway, back to it. The wiring begins! This is one of the fundamental reasons I wanted to rebuild her. Marine electrics isn't hard... If you know what you are doing. Having a failure 40 miles from home on a bodged system, that looks like a bowl of spaghetti isn't fun, so having a properly installed, correct spec and well engineered install is vital, and having installed it myself I will know every cable run, every clip, every joint is tinned, sealed and up to the job. The sheer amount of cabling is vast, and is basically broken down into 2 categories... Power and data. The whole electronics package is networked and runs on a cat 5 RJ45 cable network, plus a separate system for the more basic data NMEA2000. This required a lot of cable. Then on top of that is the 12v power runs. There are 45 separate requirements on JV2, and pretty much each one needs a cable run. One advantage of building your own boat is that with all this in mind, you can build in nice big ducts and access to allow cables runs easily. Last weekend I striped put the whole engine bay, apart from the engine. The previous install was poor, no stainless clips used, lots of cable ties etc. so I cleaned it down, gave it a fresh flow coat in dark grey and started to refit the now kit. Finally on top of that, I've rejigged the fuel system. Having previously been a fan of Racor filters, I've been switched by Separ. Ian donated a pair of SW2000 units and I really like them, 8 optional inlet / outlet ports and a simple but functional design. Ive installed a pair of 3 way valves and now we have a duplex system that allow instant transfer to a new system in the event of blocked or dirty filters. I've also upgraded all the fuel lines to proper hydraulic fittings and crimped ends, so hose tails and jubilee fittings anymore! The install now looks ace and is super neat, leaving much more free space in the engine room. Bob was over today and we got yet more wiring in. One of the big jobs done, whilst it doesn't look like it, was to get the wiring from the roof sorted and routed via the Index Marine, glands back into the cockpit. I made a nice neat job of this ready too install the radar arch and toys this week. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/31/8f1ac49e6da05777ba85503493863d94.jpg
