thanks all, i am going to try cleaning the carb as that seems the general consensus, i will report back - probably when the engine is in bits and i can't put it back together again

hope your day goes well andy, i'm hoping to get out on sat so will be interested in how you get on and any more answers to this thread as i'm undecided myself but will prob launch at lymo, sorry i can't offer you any advice!

hello everyone I have a problem with my aux, it starts (not very well) and ticksover but when i add some throttle it dies, I am running it in a bin full of water out of gear. any suggestions please

does anyone watch the ultimate fishing show on quest? that aussie guy was catching bluefin over 500lb, reckoned some were taking upto 20hrs to land, looked a hell of a fight until the fish died and was just dragged in. had some great underwater shots of the tuna too.

the raymarine offices are near portsmouth by the big port solent tesco you can see from the motorway.

that would be great thanks Rob, i will pm you my email it is 2001 4stroke 40hp, i also have a same year 4hp 4 stroke which i was going to try first, i anticipate i will need to pick up a few tools as well but i have seen the service kits on ebay including spark plugs, oil, gearbox oil. impeller and oil/fuel filter. sorry pirky to have gatecrashed onto your thread!

i agree an outboard course would be a good idea, i was intending to service my yam 4 stroke using the service manual, i see a few other members here have serviced their own engines
