Hi Neal Happy Birthday mate I hope you get a few nice presents [and nothing for the rockery LOL] Charlie
-
Sounds like a bargain
-
Is it me, or are there a lot of keen anglers about Tight lines all Charlie
-
Hi Dan some interesting results, but it sounds like it may not be failing at the knot. Perhaps you could try again with a much bigger swivel about the same gauge as the hook. I know it is definatly something of interest to a lot of us, not really just for those traces tied in the heavy mono, its much more relevant to the bass fisherman using lighter traces. If I am using lighter gear 10 to 20 lb traces I want the knots to be as near 100% as possible, thats why I tend to use the polamar knot which is doubled where it goes through the hook or swivel. Neal and his mate were first to ask this week So hopefully if all other matters can be sorted, they will join Dan and I for a trip to the island on Sunday Tight lines all Charlie

Happy Birthday matey I hope you get what you hoped for and have a great day Charlie

Nice pictures mate Go on rub it in Well done Charlie

Dan try a polamar knot mate its supposed to be a 100% knot Its a simple one to tie to something like a swivel, but it is bulky I would be interested to know what that and my version of the centauri knot fail at on your 60lb mono. Charlie

I have been keeping an eye on the catch report viewer and tonight was going to remind those anglers getting the cod to add their catches, as they were not showing. Today when I checked I saw several nice cod in december allready then I noticed the dates I know James is a good angler and very confident, but reporting a 20 lb fish caught on boxing day is a bit keen. Maybe its one for PD, it just seems there is no way to correct typo's and mistakes like duplicates on the report posting system. Its not really a winge, its just that other office guys may like to keep an eye on the catch reports like me and the boys do. Charlie

Nice report and nice fishing guys well done again At least in daylight you have a chance with those braid tangles, at night and with a need to now wear glasses I find them a nightmare. lets hope Alun is right about the weekend,[ its a shame the comp could not be rescheduled,] but if other matters are OK we may get out towards the island on Sunday. Whenever you have an 'I Hate My Job' day (Even retirees can sometimes have those days), try this out: On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone, so you will not be disturbed. Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair. Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken. Now the fun part begins. Take out the literature from the box and read it carefully. You will notice that in small print there is a statement: 'Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson &Johnson is personally tested and then sanitized.' Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, 'I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson & Johnson.' HAVE A NICE DAY; AND REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A JOB THAT IS MORE OF A PAIN IN THE ASS THAN YOURS! ....Remember, if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart, then you are just a sour old f..t. and maybe you should go and work for Johnson & Johnson !

Tight lines this week chaps. Family commitments will keep Alfresco tied up this week. James Have a look through recent posts for squid there was a very good source found by will a few weeks ago and its in Christchurch. Charlie

Morning Al Next time you tie one up, have a look the way I described earlier when tightened by pulling both the tag end and the trace it really is a neat knot. It was shown to Gary and I by a chap we used to see every year at the Conger Club events, he used about 400lb mono. I have no idea what its called but it certainly works. I used to put 4 or more turns on it but have been using only 3 for years and have never had a problem. Charlie
-
Hi Al It seems to be the other way around than the one I use for heavy mono. I pass the line through the hook, back on itself and take three turns around my finger towards the hook before passing the tag end away from the hook between finger and the turns. [ If you use the end of a large boom instead of your finger, I find it easier to push the tag end up the inside of the tube and pull the tube off before tightening the knot] The one above seems to take turns away from the hook and then back outside before tucking. If it was in the heavy line you and I use it would bulk up the knot a bit. Charlie

Looks straight forward like that G/W [Green/White] is down from either switch and L/W [blue/White] up after the relays its Green wire to the trim motor for up and Blue for down. should be reasonably easy to see if its a switch or wiring problem. Good luck Charlie
-
Good call mate Nothing about being soft Jim its about having the sense to know when its better to be wise before going out and stay safe ashore. We all love fishing, but it can be too risky going out on days like today. Better to keep the fuel and bait for a nicer day. Charlie
-
Gordon If you can not get the wireing diagram have a look at the wire colours on the cowl switch that is working. the same wire colours at the control box should give it away. black is usually the common earth. if you think you have worked it out, try swapping the wires, if it now motors up and not down it may well be just a U/S switch. good luck Charlie

Nice to meet you afloat yesterday Martyn and well done on finding the fish again. It was dogfish time where we were with loads of pout and only a couple of whiting. so no need to worry about our report. Tight lines if you get out again soon Regards Charlie
-
Nice fish mate after our afternoon yesterday can I borrow your broom. It may bring me luck What stage of the tide have you been fishing with most success, we arrived for the flood yesterday, fished it through well into the dark with no cod at all. Charlie
-
Tight lines all What time are you going out? Martyn can you PM me your mobile No in case I can not raise you on the VHF. I may give you both a call in late morning for a weather check and fishing update. Charlie
-
Hi again Terry It sounds like all systems are go Dan and I have both blagged a half day, I finish at 12.30 and hope that if we all meet up just after we can be out of the Haven at pyc BY 1300. Then it should be full ahead to catch as much of the flood as possible. I intend to be in by about 10 home for 11 Target will probably be rays whiting and hopefully a winter cod. PM me your mobile no and we can confirm other details Martyn I will try and call you on Channel 6 in the afternoon Cheers Charlie
-
Hi Terry Fine mate, I have time off and Dan is going to phone his boss after college. I will come back to you to confirm Charlie

Thanks for the imput guys and the contacts to source them I realise that the bigger one is not really an SLR but I did not really know how they describe them. what I was after was others thoughts on if to get that type to give better zoom and lens and a few other features or a small compact with a good pixel count. that would be easy to use on the boat. Cheers Charlie
