Niice one Paul They look good on the boat this morning Charlie

Nice fish Mike well done It proves that there are fish inshore and we really do steam past them in our urge to head to deeper waters Well done also to the skipper Charlie

I wonder if word of mouth has changed 72 to 17.2 It may help to know that 72 is a Port Buoy very close to hutchins [73]. They are past the Ro Ro terminal where the main chanel changes direction towards the Marines camp. Hope that helps in some way Charlie

Thanks for the interest guys I am sure others will also be interested as time approaches so if other boats are thinking of going more crew spaces may become available. I have been in contact with a contact on Alderney to see what their fuel prices are currently, I will let you know. I have just had a quick look at the new tide book and the First Bank holiday in May is a neap tide The second is quite a big spring also a neap on 16/17th I can not remember what events I have on at work, but I may start to look at the first weekend. Better go and take the tree down and push the hoover around I may need to bank some brownie points Charlie

Nice shots I want one of those flypast ones now I might even let the boys open her up fully just to see what angle she runs at Charlie

The buoy numbers in the harbour have changed over recent years, but I have never heard of any with decimal points or any over 100 are you sure that it is not the old 72 buoy ? Charlie

Hi all I know that feeling Adam Please add Alfresco to the list Work affects the dates I can go but a slightly smaller tide than last year would be prefered. I do not expect Sam to be available [but he will have first refusal] as the Navy will probably have sent him somewhere. Dan and I are very keen, we will be sleeping onboard but will possibly have space for two more to fish if they are happy to arrange accomadation ashore. Looking forward too it already Charlie

Graham I believe some can be mounted above the radome. But I would suggest not one that weighes 7.5kg Charlie

Great News Martin I am very pleased that James and the Guys at mermaid are sorting it out for you. I purchased my engine from James and have had good service from him and all at Salterns/PMS. The extra's that were discussed/promised on purchase [although not written down] were all forthcoming. James even delivered the engine to my house personally on a trailer. As Tom says both Matt and James are top guys and have always supported Members of our Club and our open comps. Charlie

Hi Adam 1 Let me have all your numbers I will put them on a spare SD card [ Or maybe two ] and let you have one of the cards back. 2. Pop over and I will show you how I do it on mapcreate that came with an earlier Lowrance, you can download a simular system Free from Lowrance website, The background map is crap but it's a method of typing in waypoints that can easily be transfered to ether of your sets by SD card, and although the map is U/S except as a rough guide I still load info onto the card from the plotter and then save it in mapcreate data file to review later and as a backup. it shows tracks waypoints events and can calculate distances and help with passage planning. ie all the info from Alderney 2008. is saved ready for Alderney 2009 Charlie

Hi again Adam I have never used Garmin in detail, but love the Lowrance I have mine usually on the Map/sonar page with the navigation info written over the map in medium size. even at 20 knots I get a reasonable colour sonar picture and can view everything I need on one screen. If you move the cursor to a tidal indicator you get a direction and flow info, if you then press wpt you will get the info for the day at that point. [as I said i do not know how garmin show it, so I can not compare] I have become a fan of the sonar recordings and the way info can be saved and replayed at home on the pc I am sure that you will find using the pc to save info to a SD card then simply loading from the card to the plotter a piece of cake. I would offer to show you but as Bob is the Guru I am sure you will soon get the hang of it. but if I can help please ask Charlie

2 Small point guys, that may be of interest MCA requirement that you have a Radar reflector of some sort. Fitting one of the cheap ones in a tube fills that requirement but as they are about usless seems all but pointless. We carry one of the old fashined ally type, it is quick to deploy but a permenent one would be better. Now you are running a boat with radar it is also compulsary to know how to operate it, use it and keep it maintained, you may not know but if you were to have a collision in poor vis or at night with a vessel that did not have a radar you would be deemed to be at fault. No preaching or scare mongering intended, just trying to pass on info Charlie

Nice one Mate All in all, she is better than we hoped / expected. There isnt anything we would change or add, and we look forward to many happy hours in her in 2009 I bet I can think of something you would add, a 21lb turbot in the icytec How are you getting on with the plotter? I bet Bob spent ages checking it yesteday in the warm. Really pleased for you Charlie
-
Paul your instruments are close, We were doing about 19 knots on the plotter. Offshore told me that if we fitted trim tabs the bow would come down more for a better ride in rougher seas, but so far I am quite happy with the ride I hope the barttery snags are sorted and we see you afloat soon. Charlie

Well done guys we can understand the excitment and the need to get out on the new boat. I think our first was a very slow day after flounders We are sure that it will not take long for Joint Venture to become a regular on the catch reports. When are you out again? Charlie
-
It looks like the season started with a lot of promise and boats getting reasonable numbers of fish however it now looks only slightly above average for the past few winters. If my memory is right, I think only 9 cod were weighed in last year. Lets hope that a few bigger fish are about after Christmas festivities die down, If not we will head further south for the mackeral and perhaps an eel or two Tight lines and a Happy New Year Charlie

Thanks Rob and Paul I have just got back from an extended trip to Weston and this looks great Charlie
-
Happy Birthday Paul We hope you have a great night tonight. Charlie Sam and Dan

Hi Alan we will be later back from Weston than anticipated. But we would love to get out to try out the new rods Dan bought for Sam and I If we are back and the weather is fair we may get another trip in 2008. Charlie

Hi Guys nice to talk to you today while you fished on your excellent new boat Congratulations both, on getting the deck a bit fishy. Hope to see you out there soon Charlie
-
Hard luck Dan good decision to move to the slightly deeper water, that is where the whiting tend to be. It may well have been an eel or a large Blonde both tend to move about a bit on these tides. I am sure you will be back to try again. It certainly has been two days of good pre Christmas weather. Merry Christmas Charlie
