You are more than welcome Alun glad to have you onboard. Thanks for the message and the PM yesterday Dan was well pleased, he loves his fishing and the uptider and ABU 7000LD he bought off you last year. Really glad that you enjoyed the flat fish, we are looking forward to whiting for supper tonight. If that weather window stays as forecast for next weekend, I hope that Wendy will come out for a short trip on Saturday, [i had better check that we cleaned everything properly ] CU Thursday Charlie

Hi All well we went for what may be the last trip before the fish depart The forecast was for a brief lull in the weather on a small tide. Alun and PJ accepted the offer to join us in the cold weather and the Plan was to try and start at one of the inshore wrecks then come in further to try for whiting later. To be honest I tweaked my back a bit loading the car so I was a bit concerned that fishing a wreck may be a bit ambitious . and on the way out the already building seas had me change the plans to stay inshore. We anchored at the start of the ebb and there was just enough tide to hold the boat against the wind, fishing was a bit slower than recently but we did have a steady flow of bites [ well everyone but me did to be honest, I could not get a bite most of the day no matter what I tried] The whiting were smaller than of late and still stuffed with sprats, so a lot of bites were missed. We did get two new species on board yesterday, Alun had a lovely little brill and I had my first Dab in years with a 13 oz fish [3 ounces under specimen and Club record size] Alun reports that they both tasted wonderful so thats great It was good to be out in the Cold fresh air, everyone had a good time a few fish were taken for the table a lot were returned to grow bigger and even my tweaked back copped with 20knots of wind and a steady force 5 so the confidence in the new boat and the way she handles the weather is growing. Apart from two charter boats we were alone out there yesterday, CU out there soon in calmer weather Charlie

Nice one guys That is probably the very best way to learn Rich It sounds like you were getting so much information passed over it would have been worth the trip without the fish Bon apetite Charlie

That weather window is closing a bit And Dans mate and probably Sam are now not available. Alun + PJ would you like to join Dan and I instead, bit more room and a big cabin to dodge the cold. Call, Post or PM if you fancy it Charlie

I must say I agree with Tom and most people that use these tanks, that the tank should be round. It should have no internal objects, to stop the fish swimming. They will die and Rapidly kill the rest. and corners are also usually frowned on for that reason. Some charter skippers get very tense even if you leave the small net in. My old tank worked great when fed from a 12 volt bilge pump dropped overboard at anchor or drift and lifted into the tank to recycle when underway. If you want to have a look you are welcome, its at home in broadstone at the moment. The new boat has the deckwash system as described by Tom, with two outlets so it can also be used for the bait tank. It was a much dearer option but has already proved its worth as a deckwash to keep the decks as clean as possible when fishing. If you want to see that one the boats is at work. Call me if you want to have a look prior to making your tank and I could take the small one down to the boat. cheers Charlie

I am very pleased to hear that all is well and Monday ws just the result of a poor battery, and your urge to escape the office. I hope that this is not more of an underlying problem as I think you are refering to a boat that had a simular problem on the 6th Jan. Tom B if you speak to the owner I may be able to recomend a marine electrician if the boat needs checking out. But I expect you also have contacts for that. Or failing that get him to call Cribbs on 01202 631122. Shytalk put me on to them and they supplied batteries for Alfresco at a good price, 2 year warrenty and even delivered them to the Club. Hi Tom That a great write up for the event and the Club, especially written as it is from someone outside the Club. and the chance to view the pictures taken is great PR. One very little thing if this has not yet gone to print would be get the Clubs name right, the initials are correct but in the text the name is slightly wrong. Nice one mate Charlie

We were hopeing to use the window and small tide to take one of Dans mates congering the weather window seems to be closing slightly so we will have to see what the weather gods bring, then decide Charlie

Hi Jack Nice one mate a healthy looking male, you should have slipped across with him, I could have passed you some scales over, we had 3 sets this week plus Adams [ We were short last time so have over compensated now ] Nice to see that the fish repellent is wearing off Charlie
-
We had a nice day yesterday , so I was not too upset to see you both head out this morning and back later with full cool boxes. although I would have rather been with you than stay at work Glad you had a good day. Charlie

Well I must say that wind Guru had the forecast spot on. All week we had been tracking the weather and the chance to get out on a biggish tide and dropping wind. Yesterday we had both Adam joined us at the boat just before 8 for a short trip to an area known to have whiting recently, hook down and then on a building flood a slow stream of whiting that as Dave said were stuffed with sprats. Our big baits remained untouched barring 1 small eyed ray of about 5lb, but the whiting rods were getting a steady run of bites. The fish were tricky to hook [probably down to the sprats] but by selecting the better fish we had more than enough. The breeze did not completly drop until just before slack, so I decided that mostly due to the size of the tide we would just stay put and enjoy the nice weather. In fact Adam and Sam were in T shirts at one stage [in January??] We finished up with some nice whiting to 2lb 13oz [sam] plus pout a few dogs and the single Ray:D Two boats close by had Blonde Ray onboard over 20lb so there are bigger fish out there. One was caught by Humphrey and the other will post his own report. I hope that another window in the weather stays as forecast next weekend. When we may do a few miles to check some numbers. Martin sorry to hear about the boat mate, hope all is OK and you get a chance to use the worms. Give ma a call If you are going I think I have an insite into where the flounders were caught yesterday Or te whiting. Charlie
-
Jack give me a shout on 6 mate and we can compare notes I intend to start the day with a look to see if whiting are about but a spot of rust a bit further out may call me later if the boys get their way. Tight lines Charlie
-
Good news Sounds like we are on Speak soon Charlie
-
Show you on Sunday I hope Pity the tide is so large, as you are coming down and I have both boys available we could have tried something more exciting perhaps a bit further west But a few nice whiting are also good, if we can get them Charlie
-
Adam You have a PM Charlie
-
Try not smelting it in your pipe Jack
-
Hi all Is anyone going out on Sunday? I hope to be but am not sure if it will be floundering [Castaways comp if we do] or outside for the end of the whiting etc. I may have room but it depends on if Sam recovers from a wisdom tooth extraction yesterday and of course the weather. Post or PM if interested in a trip at short notice Charlie
-
Thanks Alun I guess a lot of Members are keeping an eye on Sundays forecast, but it is so changable at the moment who knows how it will finish up. If it is good enough we hope to get out, and will probably stay close due to weather forecast and the tide, although the tide height is dropping again by Sunday. Charlie

Hi Alun I saw a few boats heading out today and thought you may be out. well done mate I Suppose that's what we all hope for when we retire, the chance to slip out fishing as and when the weather allows. Nice to see that there are still fish about, were you close to where you were with Adam and I? Charlie
