Rich I also use the larger size uptide hooks for tope and other larger fish I have changed from mustad vikings to the sharper Viravas big mouth exra they are strong , sharp and only have small barbs so I no longer flatten the barbs down. Caught some good rays eels and tope on them and never broken one. They can get a bit knackered on the T bar if the eel starts spinning as you are lifting it I will see if we can get you and Paul out before the fish depart Charlie

Rich Your description of tope runs is the way they tend to go in shallower water. the tendancy is now to hit them early. Although a few get away this stops a lot of deep hooking which will damage the fish. We try and handle them with care, tag them and watch them swim off after recovery time head to tide. Balanced tackle is better than ultra heavy or ultra light tackle, they can show their power and speed without damage or exhaustion. Paul we must try and get out again after the big boys before they depart, next set of small tides perhaps? Charlie

Sam if Skippering the boat will be too boring for you, you had better wait a while longer then. Good luck on the trailaway all, better take your ear plugs paul Charlie

Paul Lesson 1, Do not leave in car when you are afloat on the boat Charlie
-
Sounds good guys Has wet the appitite to get afloat again ASAP, after an almost fishless week in Wales. You have my sympathy about your anniversary, I have been reminded a few times that Sam and I were with the trail away at Burnham for Wendy and My 23rd anniversary earlier this year . That explains why you were not keen to accept an evening trip this week Charlie

Dan sorry to hear of your troubles I would back up Martins advice 100% and suggest a strong but polite letter to the Club Commodore, giving details date and time. I work at a Yacht Club and know that they do not take such things lightly. Towing you off their patch and casting you free in a disabled boat is not the behavior of responsible seafarers. perhaps a slight suggestion that you may write to the Royal Yachting Association or the Yachting press may add some weight. Bob I think that the Harbourmaster/ Port control [VHF Channel 14] would be interested in any report of such activities in the harbour. especially if you have the numbers of the ski's concerned. I am not sure if anything would be done. though if you radio call them they may send over their own jetski to have a look. a call to his office should clarify if it is worth videoing next time. Hi Sheddy All good advice above and we have covered plotters a few times recently so have a look at all the posts. I use a lowrance Global Map 5000c and am very happy with it, and the Navionics gold Charts it uses. Bob has done a lot of research so his advice may save you a lot of looking around, and advice to try and find a local retailer that can demonstrate the sets is also very good. I can power my set up at home if you want to have a look and can not find a retailer with a live set. i believe Bob is going to demonstarte and instruct us in use of plotters at the september club meeting so that may also help. happy shopping Charlie

Adam its always nice to have someone helping with the scent trail Duncan was more than happy to let Paul do that for his Cod fishing Charlie

Nice weather, patience , a good supply of groundbait, more patience and a whole heap of luck May just may see a shark nose around Then you will need a good strong hook, that is sharp. on heavy wire trace to a length of heavy nylon as a rubbing leader, all swivals should be top quality and strong Rod: 30 or 50lb class Reel:a good 4/0 or bigger size reel with a good clutch and plenty of good condition line Bait one or two fresh mackeral. keep a scent trail going and hope one of these great fish will come and play. I wish you more luck than I have ever had around here for the sharks, and I have tried hard in the past for them. I know some of our Members have seen them, and a few may have hooked one . But I do not know of any that have landed one on their own boat from Poole. perhaps its time to have another go now the boys are bigger very tight lines Charlie

Glad to see that you were having a good day Ours was frustrating Wish I could say we were not trying and were just enjoying the weather but we were up and away early and tried hard all day for mediocre results [C~~p really] Charlie

Nice one Paul I wish we had stuck with the plan to follow you west, we went to a small wreck and only had one eel so moved off a bit more for the first flood not even a dog Lovely day to be afloat though Charlie

Hi Sheddy This fishing and boating game is one long learning process. I see that you have already learnt to be a bit selective who you take with you . I learnt that the hard way too Many years ago when I joined the Southsea Club, I was soo keen to learn about the Club and the area so that I could catch more fish. That I offered an open invite to anyone who needed a ride. I should have known by the response from several people to "Take George" that I was being stitched up. "He is keen and catches plenty of fish" was the quote. He proved to be both of these, but no one mentioned he was the Club Idiot and a disaster area when anywhere near boats. On out first trip while showing me how to use the Club winch, he just let the brake off and my wilson flyer lived up to its name by flying down the eastney slip at about Mach 1. It hit the sea more by luck than judgement. but snapped the guide arm off my trailer. We went out and he proceeded to make my boat look like a skip and bounce weights off of the hull, the worst was yet to come when he bounced a 20oz weight off of my shoulder when trying to cast [Yes 20 oz] if I had not just caught sight of it and ducked it would have hit my head. I Put this down as a bad day, but on our second trip the boat was back to being a skip again, he was breaking open hermits on my gelcoat, then started cutting fish and squid on it. We had "Words" Even though we had caught fish on both these trips and he had showed me a couple of areas to fish. T here was no third trip. You live and learn I did Charlie

Happy Birthday Elaine I hope you are running the folks ragged Not to much of a late nigtht i hope I expect Dad is fishing tomorrow Charlie

Hi all we will need to get ten anglers afloat or the BFM thing will be void. After peter and James good start that would be a shame So if you are out on Sunday for even a short fish let me know and you will be in the comp. Charlie

Nice one Mike Glad it all went well You have a PM Charlie

Makes The Fine For Fishing Without A Licence Quite
great white replied to Afishionado's topic in In The News
Peter Are you instigating that we should be returning to Proper fishing and minimum sizes in our comps. If you are, I am happy to stop the targetting anything that swims is big enough policy we are currently using But not this season and not without Committee and members input. If you are in support of a commercial method of fishing that counts all fish caught in decent mesh size nets, as marketable but part of the quota. So that the system of dumping tons of dead unwanted or un sellable fish can be stopped. I would support that too. But if you think that the heavily subsidised french fisherman have it right, ARE YOU MAD. I have been to markets all over France and while they stock some impressive fish they also stock loads of TINY fish. We went to a fishermans museum in Brittany last year and you would be surprised to see that thier fishing grounds cover French Spanish Irish English and Scotish waters Charlie
