Dan I believe using a Niece for bait is more than a little prone to trouble. On top of that using a mammal for bait is illegal. I believe the chap who landed a world record Great White on a baby seal got in all sorts of bother. and the fish did not count as a record. perhaps we should stick to ragworm. Charlie

I Think as Three bearded Rocking are listed in the NFSA Specimen sizes they are eligable. We have just not had one in the book thats all. For info a mate who I worked with on the RM Training boat just missed the Channel Islands record in alderney when we were fishing the breakwater, then broke the Navy record on my boat in Poole Bay so they do get quite big around here. The boat caught one was well over the specimen size and the shore one was even bigger. I can not remember the exact sizes. Charlie

Sam caught the sarcy comment, which was more than he caught on the quay!!! Lol Charlie

Gordon I have just seen the weather and there does appear to be a high filling on Thursday. Wish I could get out at a sensible time but work will prevent that. The spoil grounds off of old Harry would be worth a try after a good stir up. They are shown on the charts and you do not really have to be very specific. They can hold Cod Dogs Whiting and pout plus the odd Ray so not a bad starting point. Very tight lines Charlie

Hi For info Three bearded Rockling is listed in the NFSA Specimen List and has a specimen size of 1lb 8oz boat and shore Charlie

Hi and welcome to the Club's Forum join in and enjoy yourself Charlie

Well done all involved at the Club and Suzuki. It was a good idea to support a very worthy cause. On Thursday it gained the backing of the members and was all sorted on Saturday. Shows that we are able to do our bit to help those people who are suffering so much in Asia, many of whom are from fishing communities. What a year for International help, first Cuba and now Asia. For a small Club in Poole we do what we can, Well done again all. Charlie

Rare chance to fish on Unfished stretches of the A
great white replied to Swainiac's topic in Catch Reports
Rich I did not get your email last evening as the Kids were on the PC doing homework so I will call you later Charlie -
Last season the last recorded whiting over 2.5lb was taken by me on Jan 25th . Fish of the month was a whiting of 3lb 11oz if that helps. All the Fish recorded in Feb were Flounders except for 6 eels I had on a wreck when I went out alone to try the new plotter, best 36lb Hope that renews the interest I will certainly be trying in Jan/Feb if the weather allows. Charlie

Kam multiplait is not hard to splice but does need a special tool. Pete Trew used to do it in his shop and I think he still has the tools, try contacting him at Quay West Chandlers I am sure if he can not do it he will let you know who can. Charlie

Hi Gordon and welcome aboard. Sam perhaps you would like to educate the rest of the Members as to where the fish are to be found and what tactics and tackle you would recomend from your vast bank of experiance. Or perhaps you would be better concentrating more at school on your english. For info Gordon, Sam is my eldest 14 1/2 going on 21, a good fisherman but at the moment navigation and tactics are still down to me. he has been a Member for a while now so please ingnore his cheek. If you are going out and need some advice, let us have a bit more info and I am sure we will try to assist. It would help if we know what equipment you have and where you intend launching etc so that we can be a little specific. Tight lines for 2005 Charlie, Sam and Daniel

It would not be so bad if he took some of his tackle with him. He like the idea of losing mine, while his stays at home in his box. Dan He allready had an impresive collection of rods/reels This is increased by a spinning reel from his brother for Christmas and he has won 2 reels and 2 rods in December. I will have to start leaving mine at home and losing his gear instead Charlie
-
Well Done to all the hardy soles who fished yesterday Shame that only nine Cod came to 164 rods but at least a really good fish of 31lb 8oz won it. A close thing Adam as an ex Club Member Graham Bealing caught it [ It was on a charter boat though] Well done to Duncan, nice codling shame about the ounce that cost you

Hi Coddy On most marks out of Poole or Swanage I find the tide to run 240/60 degrees through the main runs. The ebb is shorter then the flood and therefore the run is stronger. and as usual it is stronger around headlands and over shallow reefs and sandbanks. Be aware of the bank inside the chain ferry, it gets very choppy there for small boats in a strong ebbing tide, as it does at Old Harry and Peveril ledges. Flood towards IOW as already stated. with a lot of marks fishing better on the gentler flood tide. Hope that helps for starters Charlie

Boats on moorings either sink because of: some sort of failure to a skin fitting, stern seal or internal pipe . Topping up with rain water or spray from bad weather But most are due to ownners not checking them and the state of bilge pumps and batteries often enough. If the wind had been topping that boat up for a while eventually the batteries on the pump run down and the pump slows. then the weight in the boat lowers the transome until sea water comes over it and minutes later down she goes. 1 good point if the engine was not on her she should be easy to salvage as long as they float her soon. Fingers crossed for a few good days But not tomorrow its Wendy's Birthday and definatly NOT a fishing day. Tight lines all only 6 Days left to get a fish in the Book for 2004. Charlie
-
Congratulations to you both. Now you wil really get to know how to spend money, the cost of a new engine will be small compared to the wedding. I bet Rachel's plans for the big day will not include flotation suits and a Honeymoon in Alderney All our best wishes Charlie Wendy Sam and Daniel.

" Get Fishing More" If only the weather would allow Merry Christmas Charlie
-
Nice one Alun, what a great fish. always good to get a target fish when you have made the effort to get out in the bad weather. What is not so good is to read about it, when you have just checked the 6 day forecast for Christmas that shows the only good day to be the 25th. Oh well just Eating and Drinking then. Have a great Christmas Charlie

I agree Duncan it can be a pain to have to be so carefull with these reels, but worth the effort to keep the Clutches working 100%, which is why we bought lever drag reels in the first place. While my ABU,s get a soak in a bucket and then cleaned off I would not do the same for the lever drags. They get a wash off and scrub down with soapy water and a gentle rinse off, all with the drag done up tight. The drag is then released the reel left out to dry and the whole thing sprayed with WD40 or simular. I try and avoid stripping them very often as they are held together with self tapping screws. Charlie
-
Hi Bob All of my lever drags are Shimano's so I can not give you exact info, but when the drag action starts to get jerky/sticky it is usually due to the large fibre drag washer being wet inside the reel, caused by soaking the reel in salt spray or excessive washing down. I have also had problems with the release once or twice due to a sticking release spring on the spool shaft. Both of the above need a complete strip of the reel, clean off all the components, especially the springs on the shaft. Put them in the airing cupboard to get fully dry then put the reel back together slightly greasing the spool shaft. It works for my reels so I presume ABU and Penn would be the same or similar Hope that helps Charlie
