  1. I spoke to Humphrey at the weekend on Saturday he hooked into an unstopable fish on a mark just outside the spoils. He said that he burnt his fingers on the line when trying to slow it down as it took line against the clutch. it stripped the reel before the line parted I think there are still a few beasties about that are feeding on the whiting Maybe its a good job we are not counting sharks as one or two may be around, would love to get one for the camera though. Tight lines on Sunday everyone Its about time we heard from the weather guru's isnt it Charlie
  2. Hi Kam No real need for heavier gear for open ground conger, just need to keep up the talking to yourself if that keeps you calm during the fight. I would suggest traces a bit heavier than 60lb though. I use 100lb to 250lb for the deep wrecks And you may need to beef up a bit if you move on to the wereck so they can be quickly hauled away from the rusty bit. Charlie
  3. Kam You will need to get an anchor and Chain back ASAP. If you talk to Pete Trew at west Quay chandlers on 0870 345 0628. he can usually get that sort of gear very quickly at a good price. If you can get it from him before Sunday ask him to let me know at the Yacht Club and I will bring it on Sonday. Pete is one of the sponsors of our competition, you never know you may be able to win his voucher to help with the cost. Keep me informed if you want me to collect it for U Charlie 738824
  4. Sounds like a nice fishing trip but a little to much excitement on the way home An interesting lesson for this Sunday when the weigh in ends at about LW Poole. Charlie
  5. Kam can you check if he can supply 5lb boxes of Frozen squid and at what cost. I am sure a few of us will need more before the winter is out Charlie. Nice conger on the other post Please post the weight and I will add it to the book
  6. If it is a common make or model you should be able to get spares easily. I have recently got bits for lifejackets at work from Pete Trew at Quay West Chandlery, I believe he has a link on here. if not a search will find him as he is trading on the net. You may have to phone his office to see if he can source the parts Good luck Charlie
  7. Coddy Great to meet you and Sue yesterday we hope the sorting out is going well. You are more than welcome to the wine, we thought it might help at the end of a long day unpacking boxes. Did the boat arrive safely? Charlie
  8. Me again well I had a look and I can now send and receive emails again via webmail. this afternoon when trying to get the emails through Outlook Express Paul had to delete my old address. please use the following until all is sorted and I can add a better one to remember wchapman212@ntlworld.com THANKS again for all of the advice Charlie
  9. Thanks for all the advice guys Adam you are right Paul is a genius While you were spending some fun time in the Pool, Paul called me and connected to the PC via the MSM messenger. It was fascinating talking to him on the phone while watching him control my desktop from his house. THANK YOU PAUL, for taking the time and trouble especially as you are under the weather today. I am not to sure I know what Newboy is refering to, but I will have a look I have emailed NTL via their website and will await a reply. interesting to know that newboy does not have a problem though. The PC is back up to speed again, and if NTL get their part working it will be great. Trend Virus checker and adware are now trying to keep it clean. I am looking forward to getting away from this desk and back to the boat. THANKS AGAIN. Paul your tope trip will be booked on GW as soon as the big ones arrive [May] Wendy and Helen can come and show us how its done The kids can mow the lawn Charlie
  10. Hi Wrasse Kisser I am not sure if you have joined the Club yet, but if you have please submit a catch report for the fish that you would like added to the fish book. A very nice Ballan, just 1oz under the Club record, I have a feeling that a few of our records will be going to the "boys from the west" soon. Charlie
  11. Welcome I got your email but can not respond in the normal way. Wendy and I will pop down and say hello. Charlie
  12. Thanks I had tried ad aware a few days ago and AVG anti virus on a free download. Now I have changed to Trend anti virus I will try adaware again and see what happens Charlie
  13. Well done Trevor 22lb 6oz in the book Daniel and I were going out after I finished work, but I did not like the sound of the South Easterly 3 to 4. I thought I would have another go at getting the PC to work instead I tried to reply to your email but my PC will not let any emails out. I have changed virus checker again today and it still will not clean it up. It is only the fact that the machine is only 6 months old that has stopped it going out the window. A very frustrated Charlie if anyone has got the time to talk me through cleaning up a machine that has picked up some faults via broadband and is running XP I would appreciate a call or email.
  14. Welcome Enjoy the banter Charlie
  15. Thanks for your help with this Paul I have downloaded it and am about to install I will let you know how I get on. Is it better to buy the package with a CD or just register for the downloaded version? Thanks again Charlie
  16. Not to much to add about getting them out of the shells quietly. hold one in the hand with a glove or rag, then whack it with a hammer or even a large weight, used to be the prefered shallow water method. would love to get a good reliable source of live ones charlie
  17. I would certainly back some sort of requirement prior to being put into the position of taking charge of any boat that is on the water. I believe that, like a motor cycle the qualification should depend on the size and speed of the vessel. I know that in France you need a qualification for any boat [iCC transfers RYA level 2 to this] but above 10hp you need a higher qualification [also covered by ICC]. At times in Poole Harbour I have taken the correct action as stated by the International Rules to prevent Collisions at Sea only to have the other vessel do some thing that is 100% wrong IE; A vessel approaching head to head that turns to port instead of Stbd. As our waters get busier and the boats get faster we need something Charlie
  18. Yes it shows what regulations could do but if you look at the list it is close to our recomended list m I think 9 reads chain/warp or just chain. As an RYA powerboat/safety boat instructor I might make a few bob if they made these checks and some instruction compulsary in our country as it is in other european countries. Charlie
  19. Welcome to Broadstone If we can be of any help give me a call/PM My kids go to Corfe Hills/ Broadstone Middle and we have lived in Broadstone for 17 years so if you need advice, directions ask Charlie
  20. Thanks Billy The name had been bugging me so much today I stopped in wessex angling on my way home Simon also said it was a palomar knot In my experiance it is well worth using these 100% knots if you can, this one is an easy one. i will look the others up to see if I use them Charlie

    Up tiding

Uptiding is one of my favorite methods It does at times outfish downtiders, especially in shallow areas with a reasonable run of tide. It does allow baits to be spread out and not all fished behind the boat, but please take great care when casting from a packed Charter Boat or a rocking smaller boat. Our areas are generally a bit deep for uptiding but I still use the method a lot, generally always with a 8oz Gemini style weight and a 4 to 10oz uptider and ABU 7000 with 20lb line any lighter gear will struggle 1. to get the bait to the bottom and keep it there 2. To play a decent fish with the tide assisting it Its main advantages are: 1. Spreading out the baits 2. Getting away from the boats scare zone in shallow water 3. Being able to fish with lighter gear and weights 4. Self hooking of larger fish as they move off with the bait. It takes a bit of practice but can be worth the effort IMHO Charlie
  24. Rich A rope around your waist is easily tied into a bowline with one hand. I say easy, but it takes a bit of practice. [not even sure I can still do it now] charlie Bob I have been trying to remember the name of a knot used a lot in the states. This is an easy knot for attaching clips and swivels and is rated 100% I believe they rate their knots by the percntage of the breaking strain of the line it breaks at. Ie: a knot that weakens the line by friction or compression during tying is rated at a low percentage. Double the line back on itself into a loop, thread on swivel, tie a normal overhand knot with the swivel traped by the knot, then pass the loop in the end of the doubled line over the swivel wet the line and pull tight. I hope that makes enough sense for someone to recognise the Knot, its easier to tie than to describe, but a bit bulky for a hook knot I may try a sketch later Charlie
  25. Hi yes several squid monted in the usual way with a hook in each end is allowed, the upper hook on the trace is used to hold the bait and stop it all bunching up and hiding the other hook Charlie
