  1. Nice one Bob
  2. Yes as long as both hooks are in the same bait Charlie
  3. The lady took more stick than our boy did . looks like they also have an active forum Charlie
  4. Martin is it to late to amend the rules now? They are going to be given to the competitors when they sign in so an alteration could be made to those that are yet to be printed. a few flyers around the signing in point could also be put up say "Sharks and Tope can not be weighed in" That way if anyone has a problem with the amendment they still have a choice not to enter. GW will not be landing any that is for sure. If we get one we will be taking photo's and putting it back. Charlie
  5. The trouble is Duncan where do you draw the line????? while flounders will survive and lots of congers have been released over the years after weighing. Other fish have been released that may have won one of the lower prizes had they been brought ashore. As an open competition over a very wide area it would be very difficult to steward afloat. I tried to get Frank alongside for his eel on a reasonable day but could not. but to be honest that eel would not have survived anyway with a big gaff hole in its lower jaw. Its the only comp out of all of ours through the year that fish have to be weighed ashore, so I am afraid we have to accept it for this year at least. Nice to know what others think please post your feelings lads Charlie
  6. Well done all concerned A great way to keep in touch with what is going on keep up the good work Charlie

    Boat Storeage

Hi Coddy and welcome to Broadstone we are not a bad bunch up here despite what MM says, not to many pubs but plenty of take aways and even a liesure centre. Give me a call if you need a guide Charlie
  11. Good Idea Always good to share information, although fishing with the boys I tend to stick to simple rigs, its nice to know what works for others. Charlie
  12. If it increases your Grip, I am not shaking hands with you any more. When we shook after I towed you in the other week I could still feel it when I got home. Have a speedy recovery Charlie
  13. For Info ON the 28th for the competitions Its a good size tide to get a bit of movement for the flounders in the Harbour as well as a bit on the banks outside, with Low Water at Poole Quay at aprox 0420 and 1650 the height at LW on the tide graph looks to be about 0.8m so boats should not have to wait long for enough water to get out after weighing fish at baiter. Charlie
  14. Thanks Rich I had not heard of the shark, but it proves that the water has not cooled to much yet and there must be some fish around to keep such a preditor about. Club record is vacant!!!!!!!! Charlie
  15. Nice to hear a few decent cod have arrived Did you get the big one rich? Charlie
  16. Thanks Coddy Have you done the same for Pan Pan and Pan Pan medico? Charlie
  17. Its always a balancing act to get all the things we need to do done. Add a bit of adrenalin when things are not going to plan and things do tend to be overlooked. I have had a VHF licence for a long time and use it all the time at work, but a live rescue situation still gets nervous, speeds the speech etc I would like a copy of your laminated aid de memoir for the boat and my office please. Not only for me but also for the crew if anything happened to me. {More important than for me] Cheers Charlie

    training

The level 2 course is a good course in basic boatwork, it is targeted to teach people with no experiance to a known level of compatence. It gives you a certificate that is recognised around the word and by Insurance companies. The full course is 2 days, but if you are more experianced it can also be done by a one day refresher course, 1/2 day instruction then assessment. Or by the direct assessment only. You would need to demonstrate to an instructor that you can do various manouevers and have the required knowledge of the rest of the course sylabus. The best way to check would be to get hold of the RYA booklet called "Practical course notes" in there you will find notes on how to do the various tasks that are required. Another book called the "Powerboat Logbook" breaks down what is required for the various courses and is sub devided under 3 headings Knowledge of Understands and Can They are a bit self explanitory, you ether need a bit of knowledge, or to quite fully understand the subject, The Can ones are the ones you will have to demonstrate to the instructor that you can in fact do if you are to be awarded the certificate. As to your first question, I would say use their boat, it will be rigged with all the required gear [perhaps even a double kill cord] and RIB's are much earier to handle in confined spaces, and bounce off of jetty's better while practicing than expensive GRP hulls You also will not need the extra pressure of being sure your boat is working 100% and the worry about launching or scratching it. Have fun its a good course Charlie RYA Instructor [in case you were wondering]
  19. Paul at least you had a few fish some of the poole boats were really struggling yesterday, the charter boys and us were being pestered by the dogs with only a few better fish about. Next week will be much differant its the biggest tide of the year on Sunday. Charlie
  20. Daniel and I ventured out yesterday. We had been warned that the small tide had been slack for a long time on sat so we went to the gulley A bit of tide when we arrived had us getting loads of bites but nothing but suicidal dogfish. eventually even the poor cod and wrasse maned to get hooked up just to show us what was rattling the rod tips. After waiting for over an hour for the flood to start decided to move and anchor the deepest part of the gulley. then just as Overdrfaft passed us on the way in had a screeming run on squid. A heavy fish at last, but after a steady fight [and praying for the first cod on the boat this winter] the culprit shot off just under the surface, No cod but a nice fit 9lb 8oz smoothy. This was followed immediatly by my other rod nodding to a 8lb 4oz Thornback Ray. The first Thornback I have caught in ages. and the start of another visit from the local kennel Club. we had dozens of the little buggers. Only 1 whiting onboard a plump 1lb 12oz fish to Daniel. Nice weather and lots of boats about but not much tide flow and warm water must be keeping the Cod away. Travor told me he had been out three days running and had not had one. Charlie
  21. Nice wrasse Paul 1 oz off the Club record, but as you hold it you should know that. In the book Charlie
  22. I hope to be out on Sunday Tight lines all Charlie
  23. No sour grapes there then.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nice report, a little sketchy on all the details of the trip Did you manage to deflate your lifejacket OK after the tow? and have you spliced the anchor warp back together Dave? But seriously I thought it had snapped you up and then been landed later by Dave with your gear in its mouth. If in fact Daves hook was not in the fish it can not be counted as his fish either. By NFSA rules as I remember them if it was landed by two anglers with two persons hooks in it neither person could claim the fish, due to sharing the effort of landing the fish. I think that tangling up another persons gear and winding it part the way in with afish on after the other gear fails would come under the same rule. I now think that this fish that has been put in the book will have to be ruled out. I will discuss with other committee members tonight. Sorry if I did not get the info right on the night, but I am sure it still tasted good. Members thoughts please, Charlie
  24. Glad you had a good day, its been a long time since I fished with Dave but he is a good skipper. You have been a bit quiet at this end for a while Colin Have they been working you to hard? Charlie
