Sounds like an enjoyable trip dispite donating tackle to Davy Jones locker. Please report which fish you would like added to the book and I will add them tonight Charlie

Hi Alun, If I had realised that was you I would have come over to say hello. We had been given some approx numbers and depths to try so we tried 2 places in close. Frank was further out and just getting pout so we went for the inner spot I have never been over that far East in GW before so have no numbers for the area. That said It was a good day. 1 Conger and dozens of decent whiting. Charlie

Nice fish Bob Great when a plan comes together When are you out again? Charlie
-
Great Report Alun, I had not realised you were out there, which boat was yours out of the 22 I counted? We did not have any large fish but a lot of pout and whiting. The whiting were ripping apart all our large baits in minutes and getting caught regularly on the 6/0 pennels. We kept about 10 out of the 3 dozen or more we caught, the largest and a few that would not go back. They were a better average size than we normally get all between 11/2 and 3 lb. In the end like you, we had used all our squid and herring, the large baits were converted to whole fresh pout and we were catching whiting on all sorts of cocktails fron the scraps A great day to steam to the island, with the sunset reflected off the needles and a flat calm it was perfect. The boys are already asking when we can go again Charlie

Duncan Sorry to hear that the engine is sick, I hope it is not serious. Shame you missed such a good calm day Charlie
-
Great effort to put such a fish back. Enjoy the feast and good luck with the magazine prizes. At this rate Adam and James will be sharing a free boat soon. Charlie
-
Nice report guys That explains the empty seats last night then, and the various rumours heard today on the forum. What a great Day you must have had out there today, as James said you put in the effort and Rod hours and you get a result. Well done both I will look forward to the photo's and report forms. A great start for the December Fish, it will have to be a very very good fish to beat that one. Charlie

Nice one Duncan Didn't work on Sunday anywhere near as well as we hoped But that was due to slack water and a lot of variable wind. Kam if you are already able to drift wrecks with a high percentage of repeat drifts over the actual wreck and fish, you must have sussed out how to work out where to start the drift from. anchoring is sometimes just a case of going further away from the wreck into Wind and tide and then putting the hook down. As Duncan says anchor well uptide and let out plenty of rope to position yourself in front of the rusty bit. An easy one to sketch out but not explain here. It does need a bit of practice but can definatly be worth the effort Charlie

Do you therefore get a reduced fee if you have pre paid annual harbour dues? worth checking At the Yacht Haven our charges are calculated for an average 10 metre boat Daily Charge is

Thanks Coddy I will check out the webcam. In fact the Yacht Clubs wind instrument that takes readings from the large wooden platform in the middle of Poole Harbour will soon be linked live to the Yacht Clubs website When it is I will post and our members can view wind speed and direction as it is in the harbour. As for Harbour Dues the answer is yes I am afraid all motor boats have to pay The annual rate is the cheapest way overall and regular checks are made at most launching sites. Charlie

Its a hard one to describe in a few words Kam It is really better left until you have some more experiance. as Billy says it is easy to get it wrong then the anchor gets dragged into the wreckage and its goodbye to that. I would advise going out on a couple of Charter boats or Members boats to see how they do it before attempting it yourself. If you are going tomorrow or Sat I will talk you through it, but a practical demonstration is far better. Charlie
-
You nearly left yourself open to a few cheap shots there Martin. Not that we would do that to our Chairman of course Well go on then, isn't two blanks on the same boat enough, going for the hat trick next year?????????????? Charlie Who hasn't caught a cod for years and can not even catch a flounder himself

Bob I think Bob the builder [ His flounder partner] talked him into it on sunday I was at Gary's last night and he was takling about bringing some tackle, so I am sure that if he is not offered agency night work he will be there. Charlie.

Rose My youngest also suffers a bit with the dreaded Mal de Mer. A few weeks ago someone suggested trying Ginger. On the three trips since then I have taken a packet of Ginger nuts to munch on and he has been fine. He was OK yesterday even though the fishing was slow and the sea lively. he may get fat but at least he will keep his breakfast down and enjoy the day more. I have found that sea sickess tablets just make me very tired, great for sleeping on a ferry but not for staying alert while fishing/boating in a small boat. Charlie

Hi All I would like to second all of Martins Comments above and thank all those that helped organise this Years Open Competition. Special Thanks go to all of the sponsors and those Members who helped to arrange sponsorship for this event. It was great to see so many Non-Fishing Members who were willing to get up early with the rest of us to run the registration/breakfast and came back later to help with the weigh in. This means that the Committee Members who want to compete can get a little more time afloat, which is appreciated. This Year the boys and I were invited to fish on Gary's Boat "Prodigy" she is a lovely machine and able to get about at twice the speed of Great White. Thanks Gary we all had a really good day, the Boys were really taken with the boat and especially when the sea state allowed her to run at top speed. Our day started out on the banks where we all had a few dogs and whiting. after 90 mins we decided that dispite the weather we would stick to plan A and still go for one of the small inshore wrecks to the west at slack water. The wreck came up on the sounder, but the wind was increasing and then decreasing so much we could not hold position even close to it. Two attempts at anchoring, saw us with one pout. Then the still increasing wind saw us opt for Plan B, A high speed [Very considering the weather] back to the harbour to try for flatties. As with Martin this was not good, we did not get a single bite in 3 hours. With 20/20 Hindsite and a good look at the results, I can now see that we should have stayed on the banks or moved to the rougher ground just outside, where the wind would have had less effect when it pushed us off the mark. allthough we were not out there for long and I am sure those that were would have liked calmer seas. The boys still managed a prize each, and really enjoyed their day out on Prodigy, so we will all be back again next year. I hope all the other competitors enjoyed the day, despite [the only thing that we the organisers can not arrange] the weather. A full results list will be added as soon as I have a bit of time to type it up. Charlie

Coddy Just hitch Sammy on the car in the morning. and bring her to baiter with you. By the time Sue finds out you will be out amongst the fish. Charlie
-
Glad you enjoyed a good day afloat and the fish were feeding Charlie

Daniel usually suffers a bit on GW We were given the advice about ginger a few weeks ago since then even though we are only using ginger nuts he has been much better. Although Sam eats more of the "Cure" than Daniel does, its going to cost more in biscuits than bait at this rate. Charlie

You live in hope paul When her indoors wants a bigger boat a bigger boat you will have. Duncan I think a thresher or even a porgie may be out there at the moment. I may have to take the heavy gear and the serious shark traces just in case. Charlie
-
That will teach you for sneeking out fishing while the rest of us are working. Good to hear there are some fish about. Charlie

The sites I have seen are giving NW winds Moderate lets hope its that one at least its fishable Charlie
