If you have that problem again and would like me to move the boat the next day for you during lunch just give me a call and I can walk around. That is providing the office has a key Charlie

hi James Sounds like you had another good day and for the second time this month one of Gary's Club records have been broken your LSD beats the existing by 2oz. I was out last night Due to the lack of wind one day of a dinghy world championship being held at work was cancelled yesterday. So I took advantage of finishing work at my normal time and went out after work Once I passed Durlstone there was a breeze but not too much. I was alone so I used the chance to check out some numbers I have been given. 1st wreck came straight up no problem but a dive boat arrived before I had the anchor down , I decided not to make a fuss this time and to leave them to a dive and move to the other numbers 1/2 mile away. Sods law, I could not find that one. Anchored a bank that was very close and had dogs to 2lb 13oz The dive boat took the time to pass me as he came in to thank me for moving which was nice. I then decided that I would try the wreck anyway on the ebb tide In the middle of the tide just at dark I hooked a big eel It was the hardest fight I have ever had with one [and I have caught my share] 40 mins later and after and a few dives back to the wreck it was just behind the boat on the surface. Then It got wrapped with the other rods braided line which cut the running leader and a 60lb plus eel went home. By then my arms and back were giving be some grief. Nice to play such a good fish and a shame that it did not get to the boat for weighing and a photo but such is the problem of single handed fishing with two rods It was nice to get a short trip in nice weather for a change. I will be going back to that wreck for hopefully another go at that eel soon Charlie

Looks a bit loaded but Adam says its a tender and the crew are well dressed with lifejackets and wet suits [Which are buoyant] so I doubt if they were off to the infamous Xray mark in it. Charlie

Same in New Zealand No licences but if you get caught over quota for the day or with undersize fish or fishing with the wrong method [ mostly for trout on worms or spinners] the whole outfit is taken Rods reels boats trailers cars the whole outfit. when we were there I read about some boats taken out on loan by non fisherman relatives, they returned with undersize fish to show what they had caught to lose the boat they had borrowed to the bailiffs. I bet the boats owners were really chuffed!!!! Not to many small fish landed in NZ though and the stocks are on the increase They do not have other countrys raiding their 12 mile limits as we do though. Nor a weak government who give our fish to the EEC. I had better stp now before the preaching starts I like others would pay for a licence if it was used to back up some method of increasing the chances of some fishing in the future. but I think I read about licences that were to be given to commercial fisherman without much quota control and sold to anglers with a bag limit. They can stuff that idea, as far as I am concerned. Charlie

Thanks for all the score sheets lads Kim can I have yours please I need to send off to BFM we need to have at least 12 each comp and so far I only have 11 It looks like James has max points after the three so it would be very bad not to have 12 results. If anyone else fished on Sunday please let me know Thanks all Bob and I went out to scratch at Brownsea, started well enough with pout pollack and wrasse then decided to try for more pollack just outside but a large wake had us bouncing around by the chain ferry so much that a container of the days ragworm was absent from the baitboard by the time we started to drift the east looe channel. That forced us out into the choppy stuff several small tope helped the score along but only 1 dogfish and 1 ray we had so many mackeral that when Mark and Paul ran out of bait we called them over and threw them a bagfull. You should have seen Pauls face, I took them out of the livebait tank and did not tell him the bag he was trying to catch had 6 live mackeral in it Bobs uptider snapped on casting which spoilt the day a bit , but the main problem was the weather , and of course shortage of rag after we lost 100 overboard. we had an draw on the boat with 5 species and 77 points each Nice company could have done with a few more fish Charlie

Hi all its time to try again. This Sunday brings the third of our series of species hunts and the third round of the Suzuki Boat league for this year. It would be nice to see another good turn out and I hope that the calmer and warmer weather that i have just seen on the TV actually arrives this time. We need at least 12 fishing or James good start of maximum points from 2 comps will be wasted Please report your catches promptly, as I have only 7 days to submit them to the magazine. Wendys parents are visiting this weekend, so my boys are opting to stay ashore and be spoilt rotten rather than get up early with their Dad. I will therefore need a crew if I am to fish, so if anyone fancys a trip call me , email or post a reply. Tight lines all Charlie

Ah Bob So there is hope for the final chapter then, and a return to one a month? Charlie

Adam I think you would be better off with ether a harder plastic that can be machined [routed] like white nylon or using hardwood and painting or coating with gelcoat. Space Age are now on the nuffield estate opposite the post office depot. Charlie

I was just reading through this post considering wether a warning about weekend divers was in order and I get to Pauls comments. Cheers matey It's true a lot of the inshore wrecks that have potential are a magnet for divers at this time of the year. best of luck with them if you decide to give the wrecks a go. Charlie

The two on the back of my boat are made of hardwood with routed edgings and are paited with perfection 709. easy to make and not too expensive. But if you are still wanting plastic Space age Plastic is one of your best options. They can be made the same way as mine, but I am not sure how smooth a surface you will get on the edges it depends on which plastic you can get. If you want to have a look at the ones on GW, my block paving is almost done so it can be arranged during a trip soon Charlie

Coddy In the interest of your safety I would advise that you get well used to the Boat, area and the slipway you chose to use before you venture out on a night trip. Its a big step from daylight to night time boating in small boats and thats without all the fishing gear , bait and a couple of stroppy congers thrown in while its dark and you are tired. When you get down perhaps you would like to come out one evening and get a few tips before going the whloe way and taking your boat. I am sure someone else would join us. Charlie

Rich Why are you worrying about a seperate battery? It can all be rigged to a 12volt supply. my first one was made up with the wires from the pump into a Choc Block type connector and a choice of three connections from there to the 12 volt supply. [ only one was connected at any given time] 1. plug for connecting to boats 12 volt system 2. two crocadile clips large enough to go straight on to a car battery 3. plug for the cigar lighter in the car. as the latest one is a bit bigger and tends to stay on the boat it is just wired up for the option 1 above. using the boat/car battery saves any doubts about charging up, and saves carrying a battery about just for the tank. Hope that helps Charlie

Should have tossed a couple overboard James

Nice bend Was Dorset fighting back???? Charlie

Ah the ones that get away are more memorable than some that are landed. I expect that the spot will be re-visited soon. Unfortunatly the work load and bad weather will stop any evenings out this week. we will have to try next week. Charlie

If he has Hells, I wonder which orrifice our illustrious leader put it in. Charlie

Hi Bob At last evenings meeting it was agreed to add the silver eel to the list of species and allocate them 2 points That takes your score to 89 and second on the day Well done for scratching out so many points on a day when the weather was bad and Robert was not well. Charlie
-
As Martin says please submit your catches for the Club Species comps in the normal way on the score sheets I have not got time at work or home to go through all the posts to see what has been caught. and then fill in all the score sheets. and my PC at home is on dial up so I am paying to surf the net while looking for what you have caught. I will not be responsible for any that are missed if the correct score sheets are not used. Charlie
