  1. Hi All I can confirm thet Trevors Red Mullet has in fact hammered the Club record so please add it to the site Paul. Well done Trevor I went out with the boys, managed to get away fairly early to start on the banks at the last of the flood had a few dogs and a small bass in quick order before the tide changed moved for the ebb to a mark that produced some nice small eyes a month ago. We had tope, mackerel a small Blonde 2lb 12 for Sam and later on a small Eyed of 6lb 8oz for Daniel plus many more dogfish of course. right at the end with the wind over tide making it a bit to lively we went in to drift the swash a few times, one small bass and no flat fish later and its time for home. Like everyone [that did not lauch at Kimmeridge] we had enjoyed the day but the fishing could have been better. Charlie
  2. Glad to hear that you all got ashore safe and sound in the end. An amazing report in the light of all that excitement. I am sure you have all learned many lessons that go beyond any powerboat course teaching notes. Sitting in an office in the dry is not the place where the decisions had to be made, but the decision to put your lifjackets on should have been unanimous and almost instinct. we all continue to learn all the time so lets hope that we can all learn something from this. [ARE YOU READING THIS BOYS?] ONCE AGAIN VERY GLAD IT TURNED OUT SAFELY. boats and engines can be fixed bodies take longer. If you need and contacts for repairs call me. Charlie
  3. Holding HT leads or plugs during spark testing is definatly not for wimps. or for anyone certified sane. The old fashioned Johnson spark tester had the sparks jumping gaps up to about 6mm. If they are good for that, they will as Mike says spoil your day. use a decent pair of insulated pliers or a couple of bits of wood like chop sticks to hold the plug/lead and you will enjoy it far more Charlie
  4. I need to organise a freezer for the garage I will try and organise very soon and will order then Can you give me a call before you collect?? if I have a freezer I will take a case Cheers Charlie
  5. Salterns is about the most expensive Marina on the South Coast. and he still has a good waiting list for berths. Even though they have supported the Club every year with a good prize in the Open Comp. I am not sure thats the place to start. But I could well be wrong. Charlie
  6. Its a big task and I think it would tke a lot of work. I know the two Clubs in Pompey that have lots of facilities both have big membership and have to attract people to use the Club to keep them viable. When I was a Member of Southsea Club, they had more people using the Clubhouse for Bingo than to discuss fishing, and the game machines in the bar were a vital source of income. and We struggled to maintain the compound and equipment between the membership to keep the cost down. There is no problem aiming high if someone has the drive, enthusiasm and time to get behind it. I can not think of a suitable site, with slipway and shore side facilities locally, if they are being run correctly they should have waiting lists for at least there marina facilities so therefore they would gain nothing by offering a cheap rate deal to a Club. There is so much demand here for all the available space for various boats, trailers and Cars that accepting more at full rate would be hard, cheap rate deals even in the winter are not available. Charlie
  7. Yes Adam their fees must be a bit steep. Our 16 ton lift at work cost about 80k. even second hand they cost a lot. Thats a big commitment for the Club but some very nice facilities Did anyone notice the boats on page 98 of the BFM, what a fine bunch Well Done James, Adam and Bob for getting in to the BFM top 60 in the Suzuki League. Best of luck in the final James, you must be sure of a place now. By my records you have 185 points and the worst place you could finish is 8th You had better bring Tara this way and start practicing mate, its a bit different to Christchurch ledge Charlie
  8. Well done James. Glad that the BFM got the info I have tried emails to check without response. As to the Sea Angler I have become very dissilusioned with them, I can not work out how they judge their fish of the month, especially the juniors over the years the boys have had several very good fish, all have been sent in to eagerly await the next issue. If they get in at all, they then get beaten by smaller specimens caught on charter boats or fish so big they could not have been landed by tiny kids without help. Its their Mag I suppose they decide what gets in. Out of interest which Pompey Club are featured? Charlie
  9. Any Young lady who wants the job of holding up something big for the camera apply here.................................................................................. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Charlie
  10. Its the Clubs Flatfish and Ray competition Two trophies to be fished for, but both will be judged against the NFSA specimen weight. Normal Club rules apply. No entry fee Just a reminder that for safety reasons you must have two persons onboard the boat, but only one has to be a Member so non angling spouses/partners would be OK. or fishing buddies but they can not enter the comp. Lets pray for decent weather and lots of fish . Hope to see lots of you out there, The boys and I will be weather permitting Charlie
  11. Have not got this months Mags yet How did James get on? Charlie
  12. I think you will find that putting gear in the Car does not make any differance its the gross weight of the whole rig that effects braking. so loading the heavy bits from the boat to the car does not help to keep you legal/insured. Charlie
  13. I usually net all my fish even the big congers and Tope but on this occasion and for the first time in about 2 years I thought a carefully lip gaffing was in order. Daniel brought it to the boat with great effort and skill but getting it far enough forward to get the net behind it would have been very hard for him. The fish went back fine with a clean hole in its lower lip [ my gaff is stainless so there is no rust to worry about] I am sure its OK. The point is I suppose if we want to get pictures in papers we need to make them look as if the fish are not suffering. I think the pictures may get in to the Angling mags, these mags are aimed at like minded individuals who will read that the fish was returned alive and will not write in to complain. Perhaps the Anti's will find another target and not us, lets hope so Charlie
  14. I am sur the cubans will like your gear mike
  15. Hi Duncan I come from WSM myself so its nice to know how the place fishes now. for years its been much better than it was when I spent a lot of hours [ too many I expect] fishing Knightstone the old pier and Brean Down or Sandbay as a boy/youth. Adam /Martin there was a report in one of the latest Mags of a Burnham Boat Club trip to weymouth, so I am sure they may be interested in your Idea. Jim Whippy may be able to give you the contact details. I would love to Crew for someone on at least the away leg, nice to fish the muddy waters again for a change. Actually Duncan, my brother lives in WSM, after a recent visit and a fish on my boat he seems keen again. he has run two boats out of weston, so if you are short of crew he might enjoy a trip. and should still remember a few marks. Tight lines Charlie
  16. Nice to have you back Colin Hope you had a good holiday Charlie
  17. Hi Duncan U are right its a digipic so I could hve touched it up to remove the gaff, but where would the touching up end???? To be honest after yesterdays vote in the commons we should be keeping an eye over our shoulders for the anti blood sport people. It did not cross my mind when I took the photo's, i wanted to take them quickly and put the fish back. And I thought that was the best way for Dan to hold the fish. He is a game lad and would have tried to hold it for a photo but I am sure his Mum would not have been keen, and she had the camera. At least he got a mention in yesterdays Paper, its a shame they took out the Clubs name from the report. Have a look under members fish photo's for Sam and Daniel I think you will find it there. Charlie
  18. I had heard a simular story. and I must say looking at the photo's in the adverts for warrior and elite, they look very simular. Charlie

    cheap reels

I have just been down to see Andy at his shop , Poole Sea Angling Centre 01202 676597. He is willing to try and match the Combo deals in the magazines, if he has the rods /reels in stock. If not, if he can supply/quote for a suitable equivilent he will. I have told him you may go and see him on Sunday Sam while I am at work. Its nice to support the locals if we can Charlie
  20. The Tacho feed is electrical from the control box The rubber tube is a water pressure feed that I believe can drive a speedo Charlie
  21. Following the excitement of last weeks Conger Trip Daniel was keen to get his picture in the local Paper. I contacted Chris Clark and emailed him photo's I have had a message from Chris saying that the report may get in but the photo will not because the fish was being held on the gaff. The animal rights people would be up in arms. The fish had been gaffed carefully in the lower jaw to get it onboard and to take photo's, after weighing it went back and swam off without hesitation. Its a shame about the photo and the Paper. If I had smacked the fish on the head Daniel could have posed with it. He did not like the one with the fish in the net on the scales as you could not see the fish well enough. I had no intention of killing it for a photo and surprisingly Dan did not fancy trying to lift 55lb of stroppy and slimy eel either. Just thought I would pass this info on because I am sure some of the Magazines share this worry about the animal rights people. Charlie

    Squids

Hook size F*****g big. Not sure about Pennel you would need about a dozen hooks they were 7'long. and as Sam said while we were watching the TV " You would need to leave the bite for a while to get a cod to swallow that" about two weeks should do it son In fact as they weigh so much and swim at 20 knots, leave the cod and just enjoy catching the bait. Charlie
  23. I think GW and crew will be up for this one. we usually try to get out between christmas and the new year It would be good to support Andy who has supported the Club well on our Open Comp. Charlie
