No need for a Shrink, Trevor Just look at the pictures, remember the day and smile with satisfaction.
  4. good news just a wire joint pulled on the capstan, easy fix after work as it cools down a bit.
  5. Out at the weekend in deep water , I decided to try the lighter anchor with the thinner much longer chain [8mm but 15 to 20 metres long] even in 70 metres of water it held well but it was flat calm which always helps. Damn capstan stopped working so Alderney ring up and recover by hand. Hot work in yesterdays weather.

  9. Not sure I would be able to just take the boat out at the drop of a hat if I was burning that sort of fuel Impressive looking boat and great performance, but 450 horses take a lot of feeding
  10. Oh and I forgot to add that she has a top speed of over 30 knots and cruises at 20 easily with 5 onboard.
  11. As other say its always a compromise to get the best for your requirements, and believe me as family grow these do change. The main reason why I have built my last two boats the Duver 23 we had for 15 years and was a great fishing boat for the family. like a little charter boat lots of fishing room, but only one bunk, no toilet and two ring hob made it day trips only and more like camping. When we upgraded I was looking at Rodmans but they were bigger but lacking in some departments. The boys and I wanted plenty of room to fish and a bit more speed, Wendy on the other hand wanted a bit of comfort, a toilet and a proper galley. so we opted for the 30ft Offshore Pro charter, with long wheelhouse outside has 110 square feet of fishing space and the internal layout designed by me with a lot of discussion with my family Double bed in forward cabin, with bench seating Full standing toilet space with shower [shower used once in 10 years] Full size and gimbelled oven. Hot and cold running water to sink and shower crew seating and table. It took a long time to build her, but we consider it worth it, having now had her for over 10 years she still fits what we need. and has had only a few modifications. Breaksea boats do a very similar design. Charlie
  12. I use cheaper Rovex 3000 or 4000 reels for that type of fishing. when they get rough I tend to just replace them Funnily for holidays I have much more expensive ones. Fin Nor Offshore spins and Quantom Cabot
  13. Hi all as always a lot of variety when this topic comes up Over the past couple of years we have changed our go to anchor rig I carry two in soft buckets in the hold 15kg Bruce and 10metres of 10mm chain 10kg Bruce and 15 or more metres of 8mm chain either of these can be attached via a stainless bow shackle to the full coil [220m] of 12mm three ply rope. The anchor is always rigged to trip with three large cable ties. [ needed twice last weekend ] I still use an Alderney ring and big buff to lift the kit, nowadays we use a large side deck capstan to recover the warp. [getting a bit older now] The boys still prefer to hand haul it as it is definitely faster. before taking the piss about the capstan Rob, I lifted the anchor about 10 times last weekend, several time in 35 metres plus of water. Main point of this thread is that over the last couple of years I now tend to use the lighter set up with the longer chain most of the time even mid channel. It seems to hold OK and is easier to handle in use and when stowing back into the hold. If/when I lose one of these sets I would replace the Bruce with a Delta as others say they dig in better Charlie
