    Fish Supper

The parish priest went on a fishing trip. On the last day of his trip he hooked a Monster fish and proceeded to reel it in. The guide, holding a net, yelled, 'Look at The size of that Son of a Bitch!' 'Son, I'm a priest. Your language is uncalled for!' 'No, Father, that's what kind of fish it is - A Son of a Bitch fish!' 'Really? Well then, help me land this Son of a Bitch!' 'Once in the boat, they marvelled at the size of the monster. 'Father, that's the biggest Son of a Bitch I've ever seen' 'Yes, it is a big Son of a Bitch. What should I do with it?' 'Why, eat it! Of course. You've never tasted anything as Good as Son of a Bitch!' 'Elated, the priest headed home to the rectory. 'While unloading his gear and his prize catch, Sister Mary inquired about his trip. 'Take a look at this big Son of a Bitch I caught!' 'Sister Mary gasped and clutched her rosary, 'Father!' 'It's OK, Sister. That's what kind of fish it is, A Son of a Bitch fish!' 'Oh, well then, what are you going to do with That big Son of a Bitch?' 'Sister Mary informed the priest that the new Bishop was Scheduled to visit in a few days And that they should fix The Son of a Bitch for his dinner. 'I'll even clean the Son of a Bitch', she said. As she was cleaning the huge fish, the Friar Walked in. 'What are you doing Sister?' 'Father wants me to clean this big Son of A Bitch for the new Bishop's Dinner' 'Sister! I'll clean it if you're so upset! Please watch your language!' 'No, no, no, it's called a Son of a Bitch Fish.' 'Really? Well, in that case, I'll fix up a great Meal to go with it, and that Son of a Bitch Can be the main course! Let me ! Know when you've finished cleaning That Son of a Bitch.' On the night of the new Bishop's visit, everything Was perfect. The Friar had prepared an excellent meal. The wine was fine, and the fish was excellent. The new Bishop said, 'This is great fish, where Did you get it?' 'I caught that Son of a Bitch!' proclaimed the Proud priest. 'And I cleaned the Son of a Bitch!' exclaimed The Sister. The Friar added, 'And I prepared the Son of A Bitch, using a special recipe! The new Bishop looked around at each of them. A big smile crept across his face as he said, ? 'You fu**ers are my kind of people!'

    Cod Comp

Well done Alun and Dean. Often you have a problem on Charter boats where you are mixed in amongst anglers of different abilities and with differing techniques. The boat draw can be crucial to your success. On day One, I drew the position neares the wheelhouse on the Port Side, unfortunately I had an angler in front of me attempting to fish with an assortment either baited "christmas Tree" rigs or a collection of old spoons and beads together with droppers and fliers and badly presented baits that span in the tide. This resulted in the inevitable tangles until I stuck to 1.5lb of lead to keep out of his way! Even when 4oz would have been ok to fish with. Day 2 - one position further forward - idiots now drawing the back of the boat! The wind pushed the boat slightly across the tide - forcing my baits under the boat towards the stern where people were using too large leads. Tangles again! All bar one fish were caught out of the back of the boat or on the starboard side where lines could get away from the boat not under the boat. Well, thats all my excuses out of the way - it was still better than working and one of these days I will catch that elusive "Lunker" and get a prize in The British Cod Championships. Neal
  9. Hi Patrick You don't want to go practising catching rocks - thats my speciality!!! Neal
  10. Just a reminder, that this Sunday is the Poole Dolphins / Poole Sea Angling Centre Flounder comp. Is anyone fishing it - and lets have another PBSBAC winner Neal
  11. The Lymington open boat Cod Competition takes place on 9th November. Is anyone fishing this and if so, do you have room for crew? Neal
  12. Hi Charlie, Now that I am back from my "little jaunt across the pond" driving 2500 miles in two weeks! and not a fish in sight - other than on a plate - and also on view in an oceanarium. I will be looking forward to a relaxing trip out into the bay - drowning bucket loads of squid whilst searching for that ever elusive cod. Hope the boat is still there and everything still works. Neal
  13. Happy Birthday Paul Neal
  14. Rich, John and myself also intended to fish the S W Banks and if that failed keep moving east until............ Anyway with the short sharp chop on the way out I decided to go to a mark that had previously provided at least three 20lb plus blondes - but not today. Fishing so slow I even heard someone wishing for a doggie!!! Struggled with mackerel - only half a dozen all day. As the tide slackened we tried a quick move to re-anchor and straight into a fish. One solitary 9lb Blonde ray heaved aboard in my new net that probably weighs about the same as the fish!! A final move to drift between the Piers for a dab or Plaice again no good - gurnards and bream only. Lovely weather this afternoon and thats about all I can say - fishing.........pants Neal

    bass fishing

Hi Paul and Maria, Try catching a few small wrasse or pout off the side of the quay and use those as live bait drifting around the harbour entrance - or alternatively join the club and all sorts of marks and information will become available to you! Please rember everything inside of a line approx. between the fuel barge and Salterns marina is a bass nursery area and this includes the back of Brownsea for those that target bass off Goathorn!!! Neal
  17. A pleasure to have Jim and Gordon joining John and myself for the day. Bridge at 2.35m a tad tight to get under............ bridge at 2.30m scrapes a bit of the cabin roof gelcoat off!!!!! To be honest whilst preparing for this comp armed with all manner of assorted rubber thingies that have sat in a box for over 20 years and a few spinners and some feathers I was not particularly confident. Plan was to have a bit of a go and then settle down for a bit of bottom fishing. Loads of fish breaking the surface just outside the harbour entrance - John and Jim scored first - a call from Charlie confirmed that they were struggling in my next planned area so we shot out to see if we could find a few mackeral - if only to use as bait. Chucked them in the live bait tank just in case. We went round to St Albans ledge and set up a few drifts where we had caught Bass before - not taking all too seriously I slipped a live one over the side whilst everyone else used Shads. I caught a nice Bass for my Tea and on the last of our drifts which was now at speeds of 5 knots dropped a real biggie. Gordon suggested a move into the calmer waters off Chapmans Pool at which point Charlie came in as well. A few drifts later saw John catching Pollack on red feathers and I swapped to a shrimp rig. Soon we had our pollock and somehow I picked up a trigger fish and a wrasse and Gordon added a pout. Heading back we attempted to see if anything was on the Wrecks off Peverell but all the dive boats shot out for slack water. We finally ended up over Poole rocks for a couple of quick drifts and I bagged a scad. John Young, 4 Mackerel, 4 Pollock and a Garfish Gordon Moore, 4 mackerel, 4 pollock and a pout Jim (AKA Small fry) 4 Mackerel, 2 Pollock Neal 4 Mackerel, 3 Pollock, 1 wrasse, 1 scad and 1 trigger fish I think that's correct, as we left the score sheet on the boat - or at least I did!!! Thanks guys and a big thanks to the FPO for letting me out on our wedding aniversary.
  18. The weather looks more promising for the re-scheduled lure comp this weekend. Are their still the species around that can be caught with lures? Bass is an obvious one - if they can be caught, and mackeral if they are still around. Anyone any other suggestions, or is it likely that all the summer species have left for sunnier climes! Neal

    happy birthday

Hi Rich, Happy Birthday mate, I hope you had a fantastic holiday in Florida - I bet the weather was better over there than it has been here! See you soon for the next fishing comp. Neal and John
  20. I missed the programme last night and from your posts it sounds like I missed nothing particularly watchable. However, it reminds me of a John Wilson programme of him fishing channel wrecks out of Alderney and landing "on Camera" a large Cod that had spent the previous two days in a freezer!! Similarly, both Messrs Wilson and Young fishing the River Moy's famous Ridge Pool Failing spectacularly until fish that were previously caught and left in traps were "hooked" for them to play and land. Personally, I quite enjoy Matt "they don't half hang on" Hayes and Mick Brown when they are fishing - they really seem to enjoy themselves and have a bit of fun. I just wish they would do a bit more / some Sea Fishing. Neal
  21. Damn, its the wifes birthday......... Can I get away with it, how many presents and how much should I spend to be able to get away with it? Think I will have to tread carefully to get out on this comp - but I will try. I can't let John and Rich down! Neal
  22. What made me chuckle was all the Birmingham Navy boys in their gin palaces all complaining about how rough it was on Saturday and how they were all seasick!! We sat out a couple of miles dangling a bait or two in the water thinking what a glorious day it was! Alas no cod to be had. Neal

    sat comp

Starting at Peverell Ledge a few drifts drew a complete blank, so a trip round the corner with the intention of going down to St Aldhelms ledge "to have a look" Found a bit that looked fishy and with just enough live mackerel to give all three of us a go..... Dean started giving us a masterclass - straight into a nice lively fish of 5lb 8oz and second drift a fish of 5lb 7oz from exactly the same spot. Then John got one of 3lb and finaly I got one of 2lb Several drifts later with tackle losses mounting, I finally got a better fish which weighed exactly 8lb. With tide fading away and the prospect of wide over tide decided to head back. Final result Neal 8lb Dean 5lb 8oz and 5lb 7oz John Young 3lb
  24. Lets see................ Go fishing or...........mow lawns, wash car, shopping, walk dog, gardening, decorating, drive somewhere in herds of slow moving traffic, visit relatives or worse have them visit me! blah blah blah - Bah Humbug, no thanks - give me more excuses to go out fishing please. I admit to being unashamably selfish and fortunate enough to be able to get away with it - for now! Middle to end of January to March and 2 weeks annual holiday- for all non fishing related activities. Neal
  25. Neal and John out on Court Jester. Room for another if anyone up for it............ can't promise much on the Bass front I've yet to latch on to a decent one myself this year, so the "Alun Jones Trophy" is probably not going to be troubled by me! Neal
