    vhf ring

My one does the same.................. If the GPS is not switched on if a DSC call is received Sometimes as a result of low battery charge - Gps looses signal and then causes VHF ring / alarm to go off. Press escape or change from Channel 16 to Channel 6 - it should stop - check battery charge. If not..........haven't a clue Neal

    Trot Mooring

I have an old dingy you can have It needs some attention - but may get you through a season or two, as long as you have somewhere to keep it. It is too big / heavy to take to and fro on a roof rack. But you are welcome to take it if you want. Speak to me at the meeting on Thursday if you are interested. Neal
  12. The biggest problem is usually not the capacity of the rod. A 20/30 or 30/50 with the appropriate braid will lift just about anything we have in UK waters. The problem I have always found is the ability of the reel to consistently lift up to 2lb of lead. Using normal 7000 size reels you will strip the gears and if a level wind is present then you will wreck the worm drives. ( 4 x Penn 320's and 2 Abu 7000's - before changing to a big mother f****r) In my experience, unless you use something like a Shimano TLD 25 or the twin speed version you will be constantly replacing / repairing Reels. You then find that it becomes rather easy to just winch whatever it is you have caught (unless it is a rock - of course) straight out of the sea - with very little fight! This is then balanced with using successively lighter rods and reels as the amount of lead required to hold bottom diminishes - which we would rarely do! My advise - use 2 different set ups and change as and when appropriate! Neal
  13. Can of worms..................... I got a little sticker with the RNLI sea safety check - on which to write the MMSI Number and call sign. Have you had one yet Adam? Actually it was the previous owner.......together with stickers locating Flares, Lifejackets and First Aid Kit Don't know if they still do it? It may have also been with the RNLI Safety book with DVD Neal

    Snow go!

Apologies........ My comments were meant to be rather tongue in cheek - even if they did not come across that way. On most rural roads and even the minor urban roads the conditions are / were absolutely lethal. Compared to the main motoways. It would be better for more people to be allowed to stay at home in such conditions. Neal

    Snow go!

Drove out early this morning - the first up and away from my road! Loads of tossers creeping along in cars, frightened of driving more than 10mph - all fully togged up in hats, coats, gloves and scarves......some spotted drinking from flasks of tea/ coffee! - don't these people have heaters in their cars? 2 hours later got to Basingstoke... informed a couple of my staff - who tried it on, that if I can leave early and drive 60 plus miles to get there on time then God help them if they didn't arrive! from 2 or 3 miles away. Left a bit early and got home in reasonable time.... roads clear - tossers still frightened of white lumps in the sky - creeping their way back home.. Bah humbug..................thank God it's once in 18 years. Away even earlier tomorrow - to beat the rush / crawl Neal
  17. Be careful when filling up "cans / plastic containers" at a Garage. Many of them will not let you fill up just any old container - they should be CE Marked and are restricted by colour and volume as to what you put in them. They have a strict legal obligation to follow certain rules and restrictions - I seem to remember something on TV? about people being fined for filling up containers to run chainsaws - even though they were Tree Surgeons. I am sure someone on here will know what we should and shouldn't do!!! Neal
  18. Happy Birthday Martin, I trust the cold weather doesn't slow the celebrations down! Neal

    Window Glass

A friend of mine is restoring an old boat and wants to replace the majority of the windows. He wants the proper marine grade, toughened glass stuff not perspex - doesn't need the frames. Any one know where this is sourced locally? Neal
  20. I have just received this e-mail from Poole Charter Skippers regarding the 2009 Poole Species Hunt. Hi We are running a bit late this year but We would like to invite you to enter the Poole Species Hunt for 2009. This Fishing competition will be running for its tenth year this year. The competition will be run in the same format as the last few years but as usual I am sure there will be a couple of tweaks. The date set is Friday the 12th June The cost this year will be the same as last year
  21. I think I will do the same as Adam, and take Court Jester across for the 4 days Last year was a bit too rushed for my liking. As skipper you spend more time at the helm than fishing. Especially when much of it was outside the normal comfort zones of fishing locally. It would seem that the early Bank Holiday will give much smaller tides so it should be much more pleasant all round. Space on-board for a couple of crew. I may also take advantage of the local B & B accommodation this time, so may have to book / confirm early! Neal
  22. Happy Birthday Gordon - hope you don't have to work too hard today! Neal

Boat Flounder Comp..... what, where, who?
  24. I think you also have to remember that it was easterlies all day............ When the wind is from the east... the fish bite least Maybe an old wives tale but I am certain that it holds very true for fishing in this area. We had a whiting of 3lb3oz on the boat but not much else. Oh well, there is always next year. Happy New Year folks..........have a good one Neal
