  2. Quote........have run the boat under load at above 4000 for about 30mins on the mooring with no problems Ask them how they did this. I know how it should be done which would involve removing your prop' and replacing it with a special device that when rotated creates water drag without thrust. I would be interestad to hear their answer. To be honest have not heard much good about Holes Bay Marine and Suzuki which is possibly one of the reasons they lost the franchise. I have also found them to take the P with their prices. ie a quote of 10 hours at
  3. To save spending money at a dealer when you can do a bit of diagnostic yourself I would sugest that you remove the thermostat and run the engine without one at all (this can do NO harm at all all a thermostat does is give you a quicker warm up time, although there will be someone who will talk about running too cool making the sun stop shining ignore them for the perpous of this test). If the problem does not occur with it out then you had a sticking thermostat. If it does give an overheat warning then the problem is likely to be a blocked waterway in the cooling system or a worn or faulty water pump (impeller ?) A hand test of a correct teperature is a degree or two over warm coming out of the tell tale. Bad news could be A cylinder head gasket fault A blocked waterway within the engine Not so bad news could be a Worn or faulty impeller (often found in engines that have had little use and stood idle for a long time). A worn waterpump casing. Mad Mike
  4. Sam admits.....with rottom bottom Having fished down wind of him I can vouch for that Mad Mike

  9. Do you NEED to get the cable localy? It's just that you will almost certainly pay highly for the privilege compared to ebay. Whoops Update Update!!!!!! Go to Quaywest Chandlers See ....http://www.quaywestmarine.co.uk/search.asp?SearchType=ANY They are behind Mitchells in Lathams old boat building yard. Mad Mike
  10. Quote.......Go for at least 85amp/hr or larger if poss Blooming heck Coddy 'sonly a 15hp Yam! 85amphr is a bit of an overkill. Might as well take the plugs out and just let the starter turn the motor and prop Sortalike a sea going Toyota Prius Mad Mike
  11. Cynical but true........ Add the word 'Marine' times the price by 3 if not 4. Ok a leasure battery is a slow discharge long lasting battery used to power lights etc in a caravan or boat, An 'engine starting' battery as in a car is able to dicharge a high amp/volt for a short period over several attempts ie Starting an engine. It is a no brainer to see that of the two types if you want to start an engine you go for a car type battery. The above is a great simplification and there will be the real experts that will want to go into the minutia of a cats bum. But if you just want a battery for a day fishing boat and you are not into electrics and all that get a car battery of about 48 amp hour. USe Yellow pages to get prices on the phone. DO NOT SAY IT IS FOR A BOAT because the Rsoles in some accersory shops go on about "you dont get a guarantee if it's for a boat mate" Just say it's for your grandmas Rover. Mad (don't take no 5hit) MIke
  12. Went west a bit from Poole to try for Bream at ballard. Several boats in the area and all caught nowt Tried a few drifts around the Poole patches and nowt. Then whilst trying a drift or three past Brownsea up to the fuel barge we heard very expensive noises coming to a very abrupt halt as a palstic and chrome plated floating tart trap came to a sudden halt. We watched him drift for a few minutes but it was obvious he was not able to restart and was now in the main channel. So we went over and offered assistance. The chromium plated tart was very pleasant but had no idea tha anything was wrong. The two blokes were morose and new bugger all. No anchor, no VHF, no life jackets, and a 20 foot length of rope with more knots in it than a pine floor. Took them in tow to Salterns through a stampede of powerboats racing for the bridge, much frantic arm waving and pointing later we got them into a berth and told him to seek out the berthing master. (the guy actually came from Christchurch). As I turned around and came back past him he waved us over, pulled out a HUGE roll of bank notes and gave us
  13. Actually, a 12 volt syatem will continue working when immersed. Cars plunging off quay's are a point to illustrate this. The head lights continue working untill the battery runs out of power. A 12 pump & it's power supply will work under water. Mad Mike
  14. Coddy says......However if you do have a problem let me know and perhaps we can meet and I will give you a hand. This could be one of those "When I nod my head HIT it" moments Mad Mike
  15. You don't really need a puller although that is the 'book way of doing it I have never used one. Loosen the big nut in the middle of the fly wheel but leave it on the shaft by at least two turns. Get someone else to lift the engine vertically and put a plank of wood underneath the skeg so when the engine drops the skeg will land on something soft. With the engine hovering about an inch up in the air cover the big nut with a bit of waste wood and give it a sharp thump with a lump hammer. It might take two or three strokes but the engine will suddenly drop that inch leaving the person helping holding the fly wheel. THIS ONLY WORKS WITH SEAGULLS!! as they are built like brick 5hit houses. Mad Mike
  16. Hi Darren, and welcome. What is the boat name so we can keep an eye out for you? You want to get one of Wedgers Mrs very nice PBSBAC pennants and fly it off the boat. That way people will give you a wave, and a few of the waves might even be friendly Mad Mike
  17. Thank you Martin, I guess I posted just after you posted as I did not see yours untill after I had sent mine. Any way thank you for taking the action that should have been taken earlier. Mad Mike
  18. Trevor, in your opinion would they survive in British rivers? And I am slightly confused are there two species of B'mundys, a sea fish and a fresh water fish? Mad Mike
  19. My arse is fishing related, but you wouldn't want to see an advert for it. If we allow outsiders to join our club simply as a way of freeby advertising for their product we could end up with a forum that is cluttered with thinly disguised adverts. There is a principal at stake here. The club rules say no commercial advertising in the forum. THATS IT END OF SUBJECT Wheter someone doesn't mind it or thinks it is 'fishing related' is not the point. Our forums are for us not cheapskate advertising. As I said if the guy wants to advertise to us let him bloody well pay for an advert. I feel very strongly about this and if the advert, for that is what it is, is not removed PDQ I will resign from the club. Mike
  20. RIP OFF UK PRICES!!! I just Googled Igloo ice box's. UK price Cir'
  21. And justa dig back At least my Maxximus Carbon is still at the right length Mad Mike
  22. The Icelandic guy joined in for a while and as such I did not at first realise that he was more than just another member. This however is a blatant advert. It does not matter a jot to me whether it is Antipodean or Andalusian it is still BLATANT advertising and as such against the club web site rules. Please remove it. Mad Mike
  23. I think you are getting confused now !!! Polypropelene is what you are describing !!....... that cheaper, harder...often blue or orange stuff... that often frays .......... ....... OK ..... for bailer twine, tying up tomato plants, making crates, buckets and even cheap carpets from... ......but not good on the hands as anchor warp...... No not at all! I know exactly what Polyprop' is as well as Polyester. And indeed polyester does not have the same feel as nylon. After buying and using ropes for marine use since the 1950's I do have a fair idea of what I am talking about. As for multiplait, if one has the money to pay 3 times more than twist all well and good. But if you prefer to buy something that does the job very well and costs a lot less then twist is a much better choice. Mad(er than usual) Mike
  24. reference to advert reomved Where do we send the bill for your advert. Naturaly as a genuine member wishing to contribute as well as take advantage, you will have no objection to paying the club
  25. Paul is totaly right in his advice. It is no good refering to Poly it's the polyWHAT? that makes all the differance. Polyester is much cheaper than nylon but does not have the same user friendly feel. After a few times of hauling back 100ft of grainy Polyester you will understand how important ease on the hands is If one accepts that nylon is the best and the one for you then you have two choices. Nylon twist (12mm is a good size) this is the economy end of the nylon ropes, and the one that many of us use. Multiplait (12 mm) which is the Rolls Royce end of the rope market and about 3 X more expensive than twist. Mad Mike
