  3. I understand that there are things called 'trackers' and other things called 'information miners' that some web sites implant in your computer. These things report back to their parent sites telling them what sort of activities you follow on your PC. They also report back your e mail address and in some cases clone it to make it appear that you are the sender of spam emails. This info' is then used to spam you. All of this can be stopped by using a free download ........... http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ This excellent tool allows you to check whether you have any info' miners in your system and extract them. I can always tell when one of the younger members of the family have been surfing as the number of miners is about 10, Vs me with about 2 a day. The sites that have them are NOT all naughty ones. F'rinstace a lot of the music sites have them, and a lot (most) .com American sites seem to as well. Mad Mike

  5. Wreck discovery wins protection The order will keep treasure-hunters away from the wreck site An important wreck site found off the Dorset coast has won vital protection to keep treasure-hunters away. Unlicensed diving and excavation of the site off West Bay has been made illegal under a government designation order granted last week. The wreck was discovered by chance last summer by two divers who uncovered several cannon and an anchor. The bronze cannon could be Portugese. dating from the 17th Century, but the wreck's origin is still unknown. The nature of the decoration means that it is certainly not English Royal Armoury spokesman Further site assessments are needed to identify the type and origin of the ship. Photographs of the cannon have already been examined by the Royal Armoury. A spokesman said: "The nature of the decoration means that it is certainly not English. "Interestingly enough, we have two cannon of Portuguese origin dated 1627 with just this sort of decoration." Gordon Le Pard, marine archaeologist with the Dorset Coast Forum, said: "This is a very exciting discovery. "It is particularly pleasing that in 2005, when we are celebrating everything to do with the sea, a major discovery like this is made off the Dorset coast. "It shows that there are still important finds to be made."
  6. Quote from earlier post ..... recommended is nearer 70/80kgs. You've got to be kidding ! 170lb downweight on the tow hitch!! Could you mean 70 to 80lb? Mind you I am told in several authorities journals (caravan club) that the ideal down weight at the hitch is 50lb. Mad Mike
  7. A good point and I think an acurate one too. Mad Mike
  8. Quote.......similar maybe Damn semantics! OK then similar However I think that as there are so many similar hulls varing in only minute detail such as upper hull strake width (the 10% quoted applies to the whole hull not just the waterline foot print) complacency as to their market place could well have been their problem. And there are other boats with virtualy identical hulls. Mad Mike
  9. Quote..... Less competition for Warrior means higher prices for us. I dunno about that but the Seahog Samurai uses the same hull mold as the Warrior 165. Same lay up too. Mad Mike

  11. We, a bit of advice from the fish catching gurus amongst you please. We went out last week with dreams of giant tope around the Durlston head area but ended up in LSD hell. We then moved to drift along the Branksome to B'mth pier area in line with the Outer Poole patch and had bream, gurnard and guess what? LSD!. Oh, and we also saw a huge Sun Fish waving along just off the stern Any way, as we used an inordinate amount of fuel thrashing around. I am looking for a better (more fish ? ) mark out of Poole (we launch at Cobbs). Probably eastward this week. Any suggestions for our trip? Southbourn rough? Also Christchurch ledge area from Poole? Feasable? This X Ray spot? what are the marks for Mk1 eyball 'cos I still have no bl00dy idea how to use the Garmin ? Regards and thanks Mad Mike
  12. Two incidents same day within an hour.......... Harbourmasters Souter coming in through the Haven at about 6 or 7kts was overtaken by two large O/B bright red speedboats (Ring or similar) which were definately full on the plane at about 15/17kts. No apparant action taken. A short while later whilst we were having a chug round South Deep mit der kinder und good frau we were overtaken by a couple of lads in a 15ft speed boat. They were doing about 20kts when they almost collided with another of the Harbourmasters boats (one of the bib RIB's). Resulting in a severe bullolocking and their embarassment. There does appear to be differing standards and I find it most frustrating to be the only one in say middle channel trying to obey the speed limit. I have to admit that for the most part after being left to wallow in the wake of powerboats and gin palaces I open up and use my knowledge of the harbour to cut the corners out side the bouyed channels. 14. Gallo Bro's for that Zinfandel or Grenach? Docking arms....... Fitted at the back of the trailer one on each side they form a U shaped cradle that holds the boat in line to the center of the trailer. I usualy make my own out of mild steel 1"box cut and welded to make the angle (bend). I have used proper brackets 'wot I have made' to fix them to the trailer and also car exhaust clamps. The upright bits I cover with that firm foam insulation tubing they sell in DIY stores for pipework. Mild steel is perfectly OK, it will rust, but they last about 4 or 5 years and they are so cheap to make I don't worry. Mad Mike

  16. Quote......... Is a Seahog Warrior. Ah, I have a Seahog Samurai. Recovery gets easyer with practice, also docking arms help enormously so if yo are going to be single handed for the majority of the time they are well worth buying/making. Mad Mike
  17. There is parking in the road that leads to and from Baiter but it's finding a space long enough for a car and trailer at any time of day. But what do you mean by overnight parking? Is that just for a car and trailer? Or are you talking sleeping in a camper van sort of thing? Mad Mike

  23. Man, 31, dies in speedboat crash The occupants of both boats knew each other A man died and his brother was injured in a collision between a small fishing boat and a speedboat, police said. Benjamin Cochrane, 31, from St Mawes, Cornwall, died in the accident on Saturday evening at the mouth of the River Percuil, St Mawes. Mr Cochrane was flown to The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, by a Royal Navy helicopter and was pronounced dead on arrival. His brother, Frazer Cochrane, was treated for wounds and lacerations. We do not know if we are investigating a tragic accident or something more serious Detective Inspector Simon Selley The two brothers and a companion were travelling back from Falmouth in their dory - a small flat-bottomed fishing boat - at about 2230 BST on Saturday. Frazer Cochrane, in his late 20s, was taken to hospital in Truro by land ambulance suffering from non-life threatening injuries. The third man in the dory was uninjured, but treated for shock. The four occupants of the speedboat were unharmed, but treated for shock. 'Tragic' incident The boats have been seized by the police and will be examined. The police investigation will be carried out in liaison with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. Police described both craft as small, privately-owned boats used for pleasure. The speedboat is having to be kept afloat as it is taking in a great deal of water following the incident. It is understood the occupants of both boats knew each other. Describing it as a "tragic" incident, Detective Inspector Simon Selley said he could not speculate on the cause. "... Until we have spoken with all the parties involved, and witnesses, we do not know if we are investigating a tragic accident or something more serious." It is going to have a huge effect on everyone in St Mawes Norma Edwards, Roseland gig rowing club The local coroner has been informed. Residents in the fishing village said they were in shock. Benjamin Cochrane was described as "irreplaceable" by a member of the gig rowing club of which he was also a member. Norma Edwards said: "He was one of God's good people." He won the Roseland club's clubman of the year award last year. Mrs Edwards said: "Everybody is completely devastated. It is going to have a huge effect on everyone in St Mawes." She said Benjamin and Frazer, a builder, came from a "lovely family" in the tight-knit community. A St Mawes villager who did not want to be named said: "Everyone here is numb." Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police.
