Yes graham . It was a great take . Towed the yak left then right . Really rocked me when close to the yak diving down. We also saw dolphins pass by and a seal on the way

The guru Pike/cod/tope Mandan The sea state was lovely, and with a hope in my mind of catching I set up. After an hour or so Steves in. No photos from me as he was to distant. Pulls up a big old girl. Excitement builds. Yesterday's caught mackerel is down there and sure enough, Bang, off she goes. After a few minutes I see colour. Ahhhh. My kayak suddenly seems very small. I've not come all this way not to get her on board and I want my hook out. They say they rust away but these big b*stards would take years. I grab hold of the fin and on she comes. Well if you think they fight in the water try sticking one on your lap. Chaos. The rods go in . The anchor reel is in. I'm bricking it that the fish finder is going in. She spins, wrapping up in 200 lb line. I couldnt see how im getting my hand near that gob so I cut the hook at the knot and pull it straight through. She bled a bit so a quick couple of photos and back she went. Not great photos and apologies for the blood but I made sure she recovered then let her go. I have no idea on weight. She was very long as you can only see half in my photos . I've had a 14 lb smoothy and the tope seemed twice as big and far more powerful so I'm guessing about 30. A clean up and all hopes are now on Dan. We didn't have to wait long. Good stuff. My biggest mistake was not having fresh bait. The Maccys I had were 2 day old frozen and I just had bull Huss after bull Huss . I sabiki'd up a herring that was hit and chomped off by a tope but that was it for my day. We dragged the yaks half way up the river and paddled back Jason very kindly let me have a crack at his stealth. What a lovely yak. Feels like a glass scupper. I didn't mess around with the peddles but wonder if any 6 foot plus guys have them as I wonder on the leg length?? Beautiful through the water. After a bit of larking with team vittles I said my goodbyes and made the 280 mile trip back/5 1/2 hrs to Poole. It's a tiring trip but I will be back( albeit in the comfort of a B and B ) As I write this the boys are anglers afloat on Sunday morning. Tight lines all Lofty

I'd planned to make the trip up to Tywyn for the first time, inspired by post on AA from years past by the likes of overrun , lozz, etc. I'd had a lot of help in planning my visit thanks to Lureman , Richi and Lozz I was meant to go shotgun to Barto but family illness and work had him pull out this time so with a loaded poshboys wheelbarrow I made the journey North on Thursday. As I'm a soft southerner ,and don't drink or partake in the herb superb, I decided sleeping in the van sober would be hell, so I booked in for two nights at the Monfa B and B in Tywyn. 40 quid a night. Very standard dated room but super friendly and helpful owners .Just to see the Saddam lampshade ill stay here again Awarded themselves 4 stars ( of David?) Thursday when I arrived it was blowing a hoolie but I got my bearings. Forecast was very windy for Friday but good for the bank holiday Saturday. Plans were made and five early birds, pikeman( codman, topeman)dan, Lureman, Alex and Zebbedee arrived at Criccieth on Friday to seek shelter under the cliffs for a spot of fishing. Huss , dogs, Maccys for me John/ Zeb It was pretty grim but I managed my pb bull Huss at 11lb Alex and Steve seemed pretty at home in their Scupper pros though We travelled down to Tywyn and met up at the launch . More had arrived and I sloped off to a shower and comfy bed and early night whilst my comrades manfully attacked the left over Christmas booze and had a high time down dog sh1t alley. What a difference the next day. Keen and well rested I was up at the crack of sparrows and unloading. The boys would tell you I was quiet as a mouse as they arose from their substance endured comas one by one. Seeing the sunrise over the mountains and river, rigging up and sharing a laugh are what makes these meet ups perfect. At this point I had not much of a clue as to where I'm going but I have to say a big thank you to Steve ( Lureman) for looking after Tywyn virgins,me and Dan, guiding us out and putting us on the fish. You're a good man and great fun to be around. How early???
  5. It's probably a simple fault. It was working perfectly. I caught 3 dogs,1 bass and two starrys and then it jammed. I've had a text to drop it in to Niggle. Hope that's ok? I'm in Wales looking for Tope on the yak till Sunday so it will have to wait till next week, cheers
  6. Today I used my reel for the first time and I've fecked it up . I don't know what's happened as I was just using it generally. I had a starry smoothound pulling on it and I got it on the yak but afterwards it wouldn't free spool. It winds in ok but will not release the leads to the seabed unless you press the centre winder in. I've tightened it and released it and it makes no difference at all. I'm a bit sad as it seems like a good reel but I can't believe its knackered on its first outing. As I say it was fine until the hound tugged on it. Any ideas It will probably end up with Dave Lynes
  7. There were around 20 species caught I must admit I saw this and thought of you Not my catch unfortunately
  8. Just found out that we raised £968 for Swanage RNLI station
  9. From David Starvinmarvin Morris on anglers afloat What a weekend. As I said at the OK Classic, you all made me very proud, I'd like to thank every member and non member that came along, their understanding wives and kids. Would also like to thank whoever put the weather right, its the one thing as an organiser you just can't control, there was talk of chickens and goats being sacrificed well whatever/whoever did it, thanks. Ed and Andy I forgot to thank you at the end of the prize giving, I'm sorry, you both know without your and SWKA's help we would have struggled to make it all happen. The Marshals were brilliant, it all ran like a well oiled machine, each Marshall just getting stuck into a role, knowing what needed doing and just getting on with it. Nicky, Steve (Ballan, Ballan, Ballan, Ballan, ooh, pout), Richi, Paul, Andy, Martin, and Steve, thank you so much. Neil and Martin the support boats, thank you for stepping in so late in the day and donating your time, fuel and support, be proud your help donated another £360 to the fund. Lofty thank you for arranging, again at such short notice. The Lady Mayoress for popping along on time to award the prizes to all the winners. Martin from Swanage Angling Centre, he and his wife managed to get everyone's bait ready and waiting for the 8am opening. The guys at Herston Leisure for putting up with us, but please do something about that bloody pump in the toilets! And of course all the sponsors. Ross and team from SMG Group who donated the 1st Ocean Kayak Trident 15, Railblaza rod holder and paddle, 2nd Ocean Kayak Trident 15 and Railblaza rod holder, 3rd prizes PFD and C-Tug, trophies, and reels for our juniors. Daiwa who supplied, a 6-12lb class Super Kenzaki Rod, Cap and Polo Shirt for the best fish prize and supplying us with enough caps and Polo Shirts for the Marshals and a few extras for prizes including First Lady and Junior. iCOM for supply Polo Shirts and Mugs Baz (Barto) and Cornwall Canoes for supplying prizes for 2nd and 3rd place prizes for Best Fish. Thanks also to Carolyn at Swanage Council who was very understanding and helped me through the early stages of planning and paperwork, she also helped to keep our date safe, there were two other clubs wanting the same date. And lastly, thank you to Tina (Mrs Starvinmarvin), Aaron, Isobel and Millie for not moaning to much about the time I've been spending on this event. I'd also like to thank my Hobie sponsor for being so understanding, thanks Steve. See you all next year
  10. The weather is looking alright for this event . We have Martin and Neal as support boats. Anyone with a fishing kayak can enter on the day or just come down to have a look. 11. Martin has agreed to be on hand in a supporting role. Its a great day. Details below Many thanks Martin
  12. Fuel expenses could be paid too. A local company has priced to do this but it will come out of the RNLI fundraising pot. It would be a shame to have to do this .
  13. Just to clarify. The boats would be on hand for support. Should any accidents occur then of course the RNLI would be used. The type of support that might be needed would be perhaps a tow if someone loses a paddle, that sort of thing. Any members boats willing to help out on the day?
  14. The Anglers Afloat Classic kayak fishing competition is being held on the 18th of May in Swanage bay. I've been asked by the organisers if its possible for either one or two PBSBAC boats to volunteer to be support boats on the day. This would involve being on the water at Swanage between 10 and 3.30. There will be approximately 75 kayaks on the water. You would be called upon to assist if any Yakkers get in trouble but it is also a fun day and the chance to get a few bream too.All kayakers are insured with public liability insurance. A fairly quick boat would be good as it would need to cover Swanage bay The event is fundraising for the RNLI If anyone can assist please let me know as soon as possible so I can let the organisers know. Below is a link to the comp details http://anglersafloat.proboards.com/thread/24203/anglersafloat-classic-2013-date-confirmed
  15. So not much going on then?
  16. Cheers Jim ordered 1 tonight 17 quid
  17. With the Swanage comp only 3 weeks away and a couple of yaks up for grabs I reckon this year the fishing is going to be Slooooow. With this in mind I want to get my grubby mits on a berley bomb to get the fish feeding. Anyone got one to flog or know where's the best place to order one let me know. I'm going to Thursdays meeting so if you have any advice on using one come over and have a chat Cheers Lofty
  18. [p]Ive been watching the weather for a week in anticipation of yesterdays meet. By Wednesday I could see it was going to be doable (ish). I contacted PBSBAC and asked if any club members could act as a safety boat ,just for a bit of back up in case the unforeseen happened.Martin Burt on AWOL happily agreed to be on standby in the area, so with weather and back up sorted,I asked the AA members to head down to Southbourne in Dorset on Saturday for a crack at the plaice. Its been tough fishing this year and with water temperature still seasonally low I was not sure how we were to do. Saturday morning on the cliff top and people start to arrive. Its always a great feeling when you see kayaks turning up and new and old friends start setting up their gear. I gave everyone a Wessex Tackle flyer , the shop that donated 1st prize, that had my contact details on,got everyone to sign in with a contact number, rattled the RNLI charity pot,and sent them on their merry way.It should be said that as of yet I dont know how much was collected as its a sealed tin,but ill find out and update As this is the first event ive set up i was hoping for between 6 and 12 paddlers but we ended up with 20 on the water and half a dozen wellwishers with yaks at home. Personally I only half heartedly fished as i wanted to get pics of the guys afloat. My fishing was up when as i drifted past Paul ,Bet Lynch snagged his anchor, and I cut her away. At least nobody else snagged him! AWOL on stanby The boys Apologies if I missed you,I tried my best. I tried to get some "action" shots of the shore dump landings, but youre all to good or lucky In all only five plaice were caught, along with dabs, pout, bass, dogs, and a smoothy. All plaice were pretty small The third and second prizes wer bags of tackle kindly donated by Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club Third place went to Richard H Second place went to Vini R The winner, and Plaice King for a year, was Cam Clearie, who won a 6 foot kayak rod and some lures courtesy of Neil at Wessex and BFL I look forward to seeing you all again in 2014 Lofty The favourite part for me with these meets is the beach banter where plans are made, tales are told, kayaks probed. Steve and Cam ,thick as thieves [/p]
