Nearly missed it - hope you've had a good one old chap.

The rain was pouring and there was a big puddle in front of the pub. A ragged old man was standing there with a rod and hanging a string into the puddle. A tipsy- looking, curious gentleman came over to him and asked what he was doing. 'Fishing,' the old man said simply. 'Poor old fool,' the gentleman thought and he invited the ragged old man to a drink in the pub. As he felt he should start some conversation while they were sipping their whisky, the gentleman asked, ‘And how many have you caught?' 'You're the eighth,' the old man answered.

It can be confusing and in competitions I have fished the champion is decided by adding together all the fish points on each boat and working out each angler's performance as a percentage of the total fish points on that angler's boat. Not simple and not perfect but fairer than straight fish points - for the reasons I set out earlier.

" Morning Sex " She was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only The 'T' shirt that she normally slept in. As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, "You've got to make love to me this very moment!" My eyes lit up and I thought, "I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day!" Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then Gave it my all; right there on the kitchen table. Afterwards she said, "Thanks," and returned to the stove, her T-shirt still around her neck. Happy, but a little puzzled, I asked, “What was that all about?" She explained, "The egg timer's broken."

True Friendship This guy brings his best mate home, unannounced, for dinner at 6:30, after work. His wife screams her head off while his friend sits open mouthed and listens to the tirade... "My bloody hair & makeup are not done, the house is a f****** mess, the dishes aren't done. Can't you see I'm still in my f****** pyjamas and I can't be bothered with cooking tonight! Why the f*** did you bring him home unannounced you stupid idiot?" Because he's thinking of getting married."

Guys - boat positions to count for each team member is the fairer way to decide which team wins. One team member may be fortunate enough to be on a boat that has a red letter day and everyone catches lots of fish. Alternatively you may be on a boat that does poorly. The best anyone can do is to win their boat. This system removes that lottery and recognises the best team no matter what boat they fished from. In competitions I have been involved in each boat winner scores 1, second scores 2 and so on. The lowest aggregate team score wins. Fish points are used if there is a tie on boat points. I hope this makes sense.

Love this Japanese Doctor! Dr. Yu Tok Kak Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: Oh no.. Wine made from fruit. Fruit very good. Brandy distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Grain good too. Bottom up! And remember: Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!" AND..... For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

My enquiry to Southern IFCA - I'm involved with Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club. At our recent meeting the topic of collecting razor clams for personal use was discussed. Your proposal to improve regulation of clam and shellfish dredging is very necessary in my opinion, to safeguard stocks and protect the livelihood of genuine honest fishermen. However, am I a stakeholder here, as I don't collect shellfish although I do fish in the harbour from my small boat. I can see no mention in your linked documents to any reference to personal use and collection on foot of shellfish. Is it regulated and is it your intention to introduce licences for collection on foot from the shoreline? regards. Stuart Cooper Secretary PBSBAC And the response - Dear Stuart Thank you very much for your enquiry about Southern IFCA’s proposed Poole Harbour Dredge Permit byelaw. You are correct in observing that the new byelaw will regulate the dredging for shellfish in Poole Harbour and it is certainly our intention to improve the sustainability and compliance levels associated with the fishery. Under the new byelaw permits will only be issued to licensed and registered fishing vessels, therefore prohibiting the use of dredges from unlicensed fishing vessels that would fish for personal use. The new permit byelaw does not regulate any shore based collection activities, therefore effectively legalising the collection of clam species within the Harbour. It is the intention of Southern IFCA to amend the existing Prohibition on the use of a handrake, dredge or scoop byelaw to manage the shore collection of shellfish in line with Poole Harbour’s environmental designations, with the aim of complementing the new permit byelaw and Southern IFCA’s bait gathering code. The amended byelaw will introduce spatial and temporal restrictions on shore based collection activities. We will then monitor the success of these three management measures before considering whether further management for shore gathering activities is required. The Southern IFCA website –www.southern-ifca.gov.uk – is regularly updated with information about our activities and I would encourage you and your members to pay it a visit. I hope that this answers your questions. We would like to encourage stakeholders like yourself to respond to the consultation on the new byelaw, even if your feedback is positive. Many thanks Simon Pengelly Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Officer Email: Simon.Pengelly@southern-ifca.gov.uk Tel: 01202 721373 Mob:07834030309
