  4. Birthday greetings to you both. I expect today will see an extension of the festivities......
  5. So disappointed for you Nigel. I hope you get it sorted quickly and without too much hassle. Good luck - you need some. Stuie
  6. Best wishes George. Enjoy yourself....
  7. Had a letter from my MP Robert Syms suggesting he understands the issues surrounding falling fish stocks and mentioning RSA's too. Still sceptical but we all need to keep nibbling away at the issues without becoming too depressed - or in my case grumpy...
  8. The Environment Agency (EA) Challenges and Choices consultation is an important step leading up to the creation of updated river basin management plans to protect and improve the water environment. The EA would like to hear your views on what you think are the most significant challenges for each river basin district or England, and how these issues should be tackled. The consultation shares the evidence and information on our water environment, at national and local scales. Alongside each river basin district consultation, there is a strategic environmental assessment scoping document that the EA would also like your views on. This is quite a complex consultation, however if you would just like to respond to the questions relating directly with your own river catchment, then it is perfectly acceptable to just complete questions 4 & 5. This impacts on us inasmuch as our major harbours are influenced by fresh water flowing into them which dirctly affects those of us who fish in the harbours. This is a rafrt of linked documents - we are covered in the SW region https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/portal/ho/wfd/water/choices Please be aware the final date for anyone to respond is 22 December 2013

  12. Done but no reply from mine yet - 2 days ago....
  13. Belated happy birthday Rob. I saw Nigel's post last evening and checked the diary but no birthday shown. Assumed Nigel was playing a practical joke - wrong.....
  14. They still do ring replacement - did one for me recently. For DIY look at guidesnblanks.com for reel seats.
  15. Belated birthday wishes - hope you had a good one.
  16. Thanks Dave - pretty grim reading.
  17. The graphs in Section 4 of the report clearly show what concerns sea anglers the most - stock level and commercial fishing control - but then we'd worked that out already. However it is great to see facts and figures bearing this out. Lets hope this isn't just a talk-shop and things are done to improve the situation in the eyes of recreational sea anglers.
  18. Double DOHHHHH
  19. Decided to take Sea Dream out for an overdue airing. before setting out I couldn't work out why the auxilary wouldn't fire up. it's so long since I was out that I hadn't turned on the fuel. Doh.... Motored out for a short trip on the spoils and big baits down. Some good looking echos on the sounder but all I had was doggies - loads of them. Still it was good to get out. called on Ch 6 but I guess fisheagle wasn't nearby.
  20. You mean waiting for the cod to come on Charlie?
  21. The motivator is greed, pure & simple - the same as with the mangrove trees etc. I'm really a grumpy old man today......
  22. There is a zone called South Dorset - could this be what you are referring to Charlie. I understand restrictions in MCZ's are for dredging and bottom trawling only.
  23. Interesting about the Philippines.
  24. After our recent success Alfie & I were pleased to accompany Neal on Court Jester. A not too early start saw us on a mark a few miles south of Old Harry and big baits went straight down. I immediately brought up a tiny 1lb 2oz spotted ray - Neal was over the moon. A couple of dogs followed until it was time to re-anchor the mark whern the tide changed. We had a very long quiet spell while the tide raced through, causing us to let out more anchor warp. At last the tide eased and Alfie had a proper bite and the target species landed on the deck - 15lb 5oz. Renewed interest on the boat saw baits changed resulting in a conger for me and a strap for Alfie. 5pm we were back at Cobbs. Another successful day - thanks Neal.
