  1. Cabin Boy has withdrawal symptoms after he had a few days holiday so we're planning an 8am start from Cobbs. May drift or go further out to anchor as not a lot of tide. If anyone else is out we'll be monitoring Ch 6 - (as well as 16, 14 and 8)
  2. I see DWT only URGE anglers to return any fish they catch and they make no mention of spear fishers and commercial fishing boats not targetting them. I'm not aware that there is anything in law to stop such a fish being killed to eat by rod and line anglers in UK waters. There was a ban last year for large commercial vessels in the Med and eastern Atlantic. I can't see how rod and line anglers could have any impact at all on stocks and I think that this is a misplaced over reaction by DWT. Stuart
  3. Like many club members I'll be watching this thread like a hawk. Best of luck Tom. Stuart
  4. Yes Brian, went out at 1030 with my eldest son Glen - first time outside the harbour for him. Anchored near Ballard to try for rays but there wasn't enough tide so went out to whitehouse but anchor tripped in the strong tide and it was a little uncomfortable too. Third choice was Poole Bay drifting south of the yellow buoy. Better there, gurnards, mackerel, dogs and bream came aboard. Final move when the wind got up around 3pm to the faithful swash where several plaice and gurnards again responded. Another great day afloat, fresh fish for the table and a happy son too. Stuart
  5. Planning a few hours out in the middle of the day, bearing in mind the weather reports. Leaving Cobbs around 10am - anyone else venturing out?
  6. Christmas came early then Lofty....
  7. Well done Martin, nice report great spotty, and picture too!! No doubt that one fish made the trip after all your earlier issues. Just as well you hadn't thrown the towel in. Stuart
  8. Planning to give Sea Dream and Cabin Boy an airing - wind report is borderline so probably won'tstray far from Poole - - but maybe if conditions allow. If anyone else is about we'll be monitoring Ch 6. Stuart

    Club Lead Moulds

Rob, Mick - I'd like to use the moulds - but no desperate hurry. Perhaps you could let me know when you've done Mick. I'm on hols for the next meeting but I press ganged Cabin Boy into attending. Stuart
  14. Best wishes to one and all. It's just a pity that the wind prevented you all celebrating afloat. Stuart
  15. Can't do Saturday due to a big family commitment up country. Friday evening is possible should Cabin Boy become available. If he does I'll put us down on the list. Sunday looks a definite non-starter. Stuart

  18. We arrived at the ledge just before 10 am and drifted a while looking unsuccessfully for mackerel. (Alun later told me we were too far out) Dropped the hook and found a few bits and pieces before the tide changed and allowed us to put some groundbait down. Straight away we were into one or two good bream - including one of 3lbs. Bites petered out and we started to lift the hook. It was stuck fast, with the anchor rope appearing to be directly under the bow. Cabin Boy's expertise came to the fore and the rope came free after motoring to the side. The anchor was still stuck however but a repeat performance saw the anchor trip. Phew!!! Leaving the anchor down while the tide changed had allowed the rope to snag the reef. We motored back to the patch where we again found one or two good bream after groundbaiting. Another great day afloat and more valuable experience in the memory banks. Stuart
  19. Planning to give Cabin Boy another airing tomorrow - hope to visit the ledge area for a change. Will be on Ch 6 if anyone else is about.

Werlcome Shane. Can't fault your reasoning for joining the club. Best move I made in a long time was to join a few months ago. The help, support and friendship is second to none. It's so reassuring when your at sea to know there are friends nearby or at the other end of the radio. Good luck
  22. An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar accompanied by a South African, an Australian, a Japanese, a Malasian, an American, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and a German. The barman looks them up and down and says: "I'm not serving you without a Thai."

  24. I am looking to buy a second hand Fox 5 metre 3 - 5 ounce multi-tip long beach casting rod if anyone knows of one that is surplus to requirements. The rod is no longer in production. Stuie
  25. This is getting like a kiss and tell from the News of the Screws - I'd take out an injunction Derek - they're all the rage. Stuie
