A short introduction from your new Conservation Officer.
Greg replied to Leicester Fisheagle's topic in Conservation Issues
This was the main reason for asking the question. I had a visit by the fisheries boat last year and I know that they are more active this year. Thank you everyone for clarifying. Lures it is then !!!!! Cheers Greg -
Dave Lynes - Open Memorial Evening and Macmillan Fundraiser
Greg replied to Leicester Fisheagle's topic in In The News
Hi Allan, I would love to attend the event, however, it is my son's birthday party/BBQ that evening, so I will not be able to make it. Dave was a true professional and very talented and was always there to give free advise. I would like to donate £30.00 to the charity and I will give you the cash at tomorrow's evening club meeting. I do not want any raffle tickets. Greg -
A short introduction from your new Conservation Officer.
Greg replied to Leicester Fisheagle's topic in Conservation Issues
I have a conservation question for you Allan. At a club meeting prior to Christmas of last year, (in the absence of our conservation officer) our Chairman Tony stood up and warned members not to take below legal weight limit fish to use for live bait for catching larger fish. So, Can you confirm this is still the case? or, did I mis-understand Tony's statement? Greg -
The results today from Marlin:- Greg T - Black Goby, Pout, Ballan Wrasse, Plaice, Conger Eel, LSD, Tope = 7 Species Mike Fox - Corkwing Wrasse, Black Bream, Black Goby, Pout, Goldsinny Wrasse, Bailions Wrasse, Whiting, Cuckoo Wrasse, Plaice,Tub Gurnard, Conger Eel, LSD, Tope = 13 Species. Having not fished a species comp for over three years it was frustrating how out of touch I was today with my fishing. Also, it was hard going as the wind picked up a lot more than forecasted. We could not catch Mackerel for love nor money which was both frustrating and quite disturbing, also, disappointing not to have any Rays on board too. However, one bonus of the day was having Mike on board to get some good tips on bait and rig preparations and he helped out greatly with the crewing. Thanks Mike for all your help (especially getting drenched by the rain on the last pull of the hook !!!!). Cheers mate.

Yep, I went down today to get the cards re-programmed for the new car park operation. To be told this has been delayed due to software issues!!! I voiced my frustration to the girl on the desk as they could have let me know beforehand and I would not have made a special trip down. Chas informed me that a code is now required for the gates as the cards do not work due to a director cancelling the security numbers off of all the MDL group's cards. Idiot!! They have little consideration for their customers.

Good call Jerry, Brad and myself were looking to take part this weekend but have been put off by the weather forecast. I would not be against holding the comp in the harbour. It will put everyone on a level pegging including the smaller boats (kayak) who will be able to compete. To be able to win this comp (if held in club waters) you need to travel a few distances to catch the variety of species to compete. I wonder if due to the current fuel cost, this may be a contributing factor why there is not the interest in the number of boats entering this comp as it will be quite expensive on fuel? The obvious problem to restricting the comp to the Harbour is the members who birth in the east of the club waters. However, as this is an individual comp then members at this end of the bay may be able to offer them a place on their boats. Just a couple of thoughts. Greg

Thank you Jerry, Nine years of being a member and taking part in club competitions and this is my first win 😁 The fish was a beautiful specimen and would have adorned the plate in the finest restaurant. Notice, I said would have !!! Whilst I was cleaning said fish on the rear bathing platform, I had just finished gutting it and was throwing the bucket of entrails into the water with my right hand and the bloody fish popped out of my left hand straight into the drink and went straight down !!! I was gutted, Stuie laughing didn't do anything to help either. 🤣🤣 I must admit I felt a bit of an idiot!! Oh well, you live and learn - again !!!! Here's to the next comp

Yes Mick, it was a bit lumpy going down to Dancing Ledge but we were going with the tide and wind. It would have been a different story if we were heading East 😬
-
Stuie an I headed for Dancing Ledge after getting the 07.30 Bridges from Cobbs. Once we had arrived we had a look around and struggled to find fish after a couple of anchor drops. The going was quite tough with a stiff easterly wind. We then motored out to past just JV and saw some fish on the echo sounder. Stuie and I were both in straight away and constantly catching fish. This is where I caught our best fish weighed in dead on 2lb. At 1.00PM we headed back to Ballard Down to avoid any possible worsening of the wind and sea state. We settled down at Ballard Down and both Stuie and I were straight back in catching fish again. This time smaller fish but still some kept for the pot. It was a great Day and the bonus being taught a couple of things by the Master.
