    tues....

Nice one Alun. Reading your post I was gettig quite envious at the thought of that calm weather and fishing. I was interested with your mark halfway along the ledge. I am sure this is where me and Mike stopped and caught a dogfish + weed - so seems we had same problem !!
  2. Interesting question as I have also often pondered how much fuel to carry. I have a 25 litre ( 5 gallon ) tank and carry two 1 gallon containers of fuel for "emergencies". To date the most I have used 3 1/2 gallons from Lymington over to Hurst then up to Cowes across the Solent to Beaulieu river and then back down to Lymington. or as another guide, just checked my tank and has around 1 gallon left ( ie. 4 gallons used ) from the trip out on Sunday : Wick to Xray -> XChurch ledge -> Barton -> Hengisbury -> Wick in heavy seas so not bad at all I think. So the Orkney may be slow but it is extremely frugal - I think ( Honda 30HP 4 stroke ) and there was me thining I had burnt a lot of fuel !!
  3. COD LAW 'COULD RUIN OUR FISHING TRADE' The Cornishman - Truro,England,UK ... If not, they would fish that way in the first place.". ... It would not be viable for the boats to bring in that amount during 16 days at sea," he said. ... Here
  4. EU slaps members Usual suspects Spain, Holland and Belgium Since last year's scoreboard Brussels has launched four new infringement actions: against Spain and the Britain for failing to enforce rules and against France and Spain for failing to control the use of certain fishing gear.
  5. Yep - that's the link I was thinking of. Newboy, It is coming back to me now. Ford Anglia to change the drums on the front wheels necessitated taking the bearing out ( Drums on front wheels !! ). The rear wheel could be done without removing they bearing. ( I am 99 % sure ). Either way, it is not too hard a job doing the bearings ( I did them on my trailer and it has survived so far ). You were quite right about the bearing falling out from the back when removing the hub. However, it is a little daunting the first time you do it. If the old bearings are being put back in your instructions are spot on. If new bearings are being put in they need to be "pre-loaded" first - ie. Tighten up the nut tight and then back off the nut etc. etc. ( as described in the link Martin posted ).
  6. There is an English Nature report for which they are after comments. English Nature Report Also it has to be said that this is the same weak government that is endeavouring to ban Pair Trawling in the UK Bass fishery - this should be applauded surely. Pair Trawling Ban I also don't fully go along with the "give our fish to the EEC" argument. This implies that we are blameless. Would the North Sea be fine if we didn't have the Common Fisheries policy ? Why did we have cod wars with Iceland ? I will lend you my "History of Cod" book. It describes in graphic detail how to destroy a fishery !!
  7. Adam, The bolt on the back will be the adjustment. In days long gone now I had a Ford Anglia and I think the trailer hubs are much the same. You have to take the bearing out with the hub to remove the drum I think. As in remove dust cap. Remove split pin Undo cotter nut Pull off hub with bearing Someone else will shout I am sure if I have got this totally wrong ( no brakes on mine to go wrong ) There is an article on the forum somewhere on replacing bearings which is basically how you put it all back together. Cue Mike
  8. Charlie, Did you get one from Mark on Enticer and do you need me to e-mail our scores to you ?

    Insurance

But the paperwork never came ..... Having spoken on the phone the promised paperwork never arrived. In the meantime found www.boatinsure.co.uk which was exactly the same price and can do the whole thing online without paperwork. 10 mins and I am fully insured again. Wicked !!
  10. Missed this URL last week. The report to assess the exonomic benefit of Sea Angling was published on the 19th July. It can be read in full here :- Research into the Economic Contribution of Sea Angling If would recommend a browse of the one page summary at least. The part that is of no surprise is that of the

    Overloaded ?

Would you consider this boat overloaded by any chance ?
  12. And a piccie of James in action aboard Blue Warrior
  13. Adam, The other thing to check is that the pressure of the grease has not pushed the bearing seal out at the rear of the hub. ( That is what happened on my trailer, although I think the seal was done for prior to this ! ).
  14. No competition from Neo I am afraid !! Mike's score I will let him report if he wishes. Mine was 4 doggies ( lost count at around 15 ) 2 scad 2 mackeral ( or was it 2 ? ) 1 tope I thought you would have got some scad from XRay - all we could catch there, the mackeral seemed strangely absent. Xray had turned into "dogfish city" so headed for a spot which looked more sheltered downtide of XChurch ledge. Was more sheltered but all I got was another dogfish ! Moved over the other side of the ledge near BW, tried to pick up a buoy and gave up as the sea was pretty choppy, so headed over toward New Milton at around 8 - 9 knots - Neo can keep up with these Warriors when it is choppy A drift over towards New Milton in the hope of a plaice was non productive but the waves were rather large over there ( at least the height of the boat and some ) Did our good deed on the way over to New Milton when we spotted a catamaran capsize. Circled it a few times to make sure they were OK and they righted it after a few attempts. Nice of them to acknowledge our concern. ( I was thinking what the next move should be if they needed assistance ). Stopped off in the harbour for some mullet but had wrong gear ( too heavy line and too big hooks ). Tried ledgered ragworm but nothing taking. Still was a fun day.

    Radio tip

Why is it I saw this post and the author and exclaimed "Oh No !!??" Try monitoring Channel 6 as well as 16 ( assuming you have a dual watch set ). Or is it 91 and 9 Everyone fishing currently uses channel 6 to communicate ( including the charter skippers yesterday who were discussing world record throwing attempts )
  16. They make a valid argument and assuing that it is introduced along with charges to the inshore fishing fleet and the proceeds are used to prevent overfishing then looks reasonable to me. If we can get fishing like they have in the USA where there is a similar licence fee then I for one shan't be complaining.

  18. James, It was turning lumpy when we were out there. Wind against tide and all that. That's why you saw us coming back ( my friends 6 year old was turning green ). Had some good sport fishing single feather on a light rod for mackeral. Had a couple of doggies and then it started chopping up so came back into the harbour. Better luck tomorrow hopefully.

Pornographic ? - surely most violent ?? ( I am beginning to get seriously worried about you ! )
  20. This looks like good news - a start anyway ? Government calls for Sea Bass Fishing Ban This lead me onto this site which is a very interesting read - especially showing the damage that can be done by discarded fishing gear ( rope/nets etc. ) :- Brixham Seawatch
  21. Looks good Adam - I should have room to fit a couple of them. BTW: Handy for mobile phones ...... hmmm
  22. Mike, We is going - sorry for the delay in replying, but I am mobile phone less for the next few weeks ( Not recommended dunking phones in sea water ). Still need to decide if Lymington - Christchurch or Weymouth. I think the weather is looking good.
  23. Yes - definitely no jokes, I am from Essex !!
  24. Adam, Would have called you to see how you were getting on, but had a little mishap with the mobile phone and wading in salt water ( Now to put the mobile phone insurance I had been paying for to the test ! ). I hope your trip from Weymouth was more productive than ours from Christchurch. There was such a swell over the ledge we decided to come back in, so went for aome food at the BeachHouse ( hence wading with mobile phone in pocket ) Food was good though and had a bit of a fish in the harbour. Used Wick slipway at low water - tut tut.
  25. Bob, Actually thinking about it, we should be able to take the whole article - convert to HTML and then dump this in the database. I will try this with the next article. cheers Paul
