  1. Sorry, I didn't get to see your last post, so didn't know what boat to call up. We fished Lepe ( right near the Beaulieu river entrance ) - saw one other boat fishing there. Not much success on the fish front, really got all the tides wrong, but as expected Helen did much better, starting with a Bass of 3 lb and then a Smoothhound. I had a solitary dogfish !! What type of boat is bosscat. I am sure we shall see each other out there sometime.

    Old Flares

Stumbled across the Maritime and Coastguard agency website and read a few of the prosecutions pages. One was for firing a flare ( even after being told not to do it ! ). Details as follows :- Defendant: Harold William Smith Date of Offence: 4th Nov. 2001 Offences: Improperly making a distress signal contrary to Regulation 3 of the Merchant Shipping (Distress Signals and Prevention of Collision) Regulations, 1996 Details: At a hearing on 8th July 2002 at Medway Magistrates' Court, Chatham, the owner of the vessel OCEAN MONARCH was convicted the above offence. The court heard how on the 4th of November 2001, Mr Smith contacted Medway Navigation Service and told the duty officer he wanted to fire a red flare to dispose of it. He was told in no uncertain terms not to, but fired the flare anyway, which was 3 years out of date. The flare was seen by a passing ship in the River Medway. The court was told of the potential dangers in firing time expired flares, the disruption to the rescue services caused by false alarms and the degree of recklessness shown, having been specifically told not to moments before firing the flare. There were legal arguments offered by the defence to the effect that this offence can only be committed whilst on board ship. However, these were discounted by the bench who accepted the prosecution argument that the offence is committed by the master whether or not he is on board his vessel. The question of the proximity of the master to his ship in relation to the offence would depend on the precise nature of the offence. In this case Mr Smith admitted to being on the pontoon next to his vessel. Penalty: Conditional Discharge (for 12months) plus
  7. What's the boat name Newboy - I will give you a shout on the radio
  8. All well and good and should be out fishing tomorrow afternoon. As I can only get out in the afternoon, I think it will have to be Lymington as the tide times for Christchurch would mean having to come back in late and Helen want to be back not too late. Anyone up for an afternoon trip ( 13:30 ish launch from Lymington ) ?
  9. Stumbled across this on the Weymouth website - looks quite useful for those trailing to Weymouth. Boat Map

  15. Now working OK, ignore the link, just go to the front page of the site and refresh !!
  16. Charter Boat availability Not quite working right yet as it seems to open up the previously selected port.
  17. Not wishing to alarm anyone but I have always considered myself to be "careful" on the internet but evidently not careful enough !! Following on from my brush with Fraudsters, I would advise anyone to NOT divulge their date of birth on here and not to divulge there correct surname. To commit fraud all that is needed is a copy of a bank statement and/or knowledge of account numbers ( ie. Nicked from bin / post office etc. ) and date of birth. Similarily, personal profiles on ICQ / MSN etc. etc. Your address / phone number / employer details are all useful to fraudsters. Bear this in mind when using the internet ( as I know to my cost ).

    new prop

James, I was expecting more like 400 RPM ( as in 500 RPM per inch ). Surely the increase will depend on the gearing of the engine ? ( Mine is 2.08 ).
  19. Will do but probably not the best place on here. ( Investigation still ongoing ).

    Hand Held VHF

Adam, Splashing out on plenty of bits at the moment. You been near my bank account by any chance
  21. Inshore is inadequate - you really need some parachute flares. I would recommend to go for the coastal set ( ie. 2 parachute flares, 2 red hand held and 2 orange hand held I think - without leaving PC to check ! ). I think this is the requirement to meet the safety check as well. Got mine from Pumpkin Marine.

    new prop

James, Orkney is a semi-displacement hull also the pitch will depend upon the ratio of the gearbox in the engine. ( I had previously a prop with a pitch of 9 3/4", so I have reduced the pitch by 3/4 " which should mean higher revs for the engine. ) Acid test will be to take to the water.
  23. Another record month for the web site.....
