Well check what bill payments you have set up !! ( Will explain more on Thursday )

Anyone on here bank with Abbey National at all ? I have just had my eyes opened to an unbelievable scam - ( Unfortunately I was the victim ). Apparently I was not the only victim either.....

Adam, You could be dead right. The photographer on the quay was looking detrminaedly for something to photograph. ( I will leave Mike to tell you my response to his question "Have you anything worth photographing " ). My score for the day is Nil points. My first ever blank. ( The one doggie let go of the squid before I could get him in the boat ! ). Good news is I know the boat can keep up with a Raider in a rough sea

Lymington and Solent will do me, so braving it but not as brave as fishing XChurch ledge and XRay !! Now need to save for the parking and launching fee and see how much weed there is still around ( last week there was huge amounts but this week is a neap tide, so might be better )

Bob, Decided to go for a new prop - aluminium one. I bought one from Poole Marine Services along Salterns Way and will be with them by Tuesday. ( Will anyone from the club be able to pick it up for me in the week at all, or I will have to wait until Saturday ? ) Went for Aluminium as the guy behind the counter recommended AL given I will be coming into Christchurch ( I guess a nice strong SS prop will mean instead of a bent blade you risk breaking your gearbox or worst ). I shall then see if I have got the pitch correct - chose the one slightly smaller then my existing prop as the next size was larger and I am not getting to max revs. cheers Paul

Christchurch Council moorings and prices are here :- Christchurch Council Moorings The moorings further upriver ( Stour ) above Christchurch Quay are now run by our friends at Bournemouth and West Hants Water. If getting one of these ( there is a waiting list and a fee to go on it as well ) please ask them to fix the slipway I had a URL for the moorings once - will see if I can dig it out.

Strangely, that is a question I keep asking myself !!! What I have worked out is that I need to move weight forward in the boat ( since fitting extra battery ). eg. Just getting Mike to move from the middle of the boat and sit at the front I gain an extra knot !! However, when I bought the boat it ran much better - until I discovered that XChurch has less than 1 ft of water, 3 buoys distance out of the entrance ! (, so it will be interesting to see how it runs once the prop is fixed. I am convinced the propellor is the cause of drop in performance, I can hear the engine is not getting up to max revs, I can see the bend in one of the blades and the hole in edge of another blade can only be bad news !! . My typical speed is 12 knots with a peak of 15 knots if wind and tide are favourable ( as measured by GPS )

Me and Mike on Neo - launching out of Wick at 8 AM. Has Paul J got a boat to fish from yet ? ( I could squeeze a third on but it will be a little cramped and my boat is slow enough with two, let alone three ). However, if you are stuck Paul, let me know and you are welcome to come along.
-
I presume you mean weight of prop - ( I haven't actually bought one yet ). I go so slow because the existing prop has chunks out of it - thanks to xchurch - and my boat only has 30 HP+ semi displacement . Still, I don't use as much fuel as some, even with an inefficient bent prop
-
They do according to the prop web site, however I am having second thoughts about the cost of the propellor compared to the aluminium one and also what the consequences could be if I hit the bottom outside Christchurch with a SS blade rather than Aluminium ( ie. Break Outboard instead of prop maybe ? ) The diameter - pitch on my existing propellor is marked as 9 3/4 X 9 7/8 and the Honda has a gearbox ratio of 2.08 but my engine does not get up to full revs. ( I suspect the bend in one of the blades and the hole in part of the prop has something to do with this ! ). So I am in the market for a new prop and will keep the old one as an "emergency spare"

Another good site is Boat Props To summarise : Cavitation Cavitation, (which is often confused with ventilation), is a phenomena of water vaporizing or "boiling" due to the extreme reduction of pressure on the back of the propeller blade. Many propellers partially cavitate during normal operation, but excessive cavitation can result in physical damage to the propeller's blade surface due to the collapse of microscopic bubbles on the blade. There may be numerous causes of cavitation such as incorrect matching of propeller style to application, incorrect pitch, physical damage to the blade edges, etc... Be advised disturbances in the water flow forward of the 4 propeller can result in blade damage which appears to be blade cavitation, but is actually due to non-favorable water flow into the propeller. Ventilation Ventilation is a situation where surface air or exhaust gasses are drawn into the propeller blades. When this situation occurs, boat speed is lost and engine RPM climbs rapidly. This can result from excessively tight cornering, a motor that is mounted very high on the transom, or by over-trimming the engine. Now what size do I need to Orkney 520 with a 30 HP Honda - Stainless Steel prop

Rich, How about using a number plate from one car when towing with the other ( hypotetical question of course )

Dont know aboutr tomorrow Mike, but how about Sunday ?
-
Kim, Were you drifting over the ledge or anchored ?
-
"the wake from another boat caused me to dip in the shallow water and catch the prop on the bottom" ........... surely not !! How long does it take Prop revolutions to repair the prop as my prop is need of some serious repairing.

HRV is fine for concrete slipways and is car like. Just wish it had a little more power. Personally, I fancy the look of the X-Trail ( diesel one ).

I was with a friend ( who expressed his feelings quite loudly !! ). They did say "sorry" as they almost sliced through my anchor rope. My friend's reply was unprintable !!

Fished out of Lymington on Saturday. Launched late AM andf caught the last of the flooding tide. Flat calm conditions. Few drifts past the sconse buoy and plenty of mackeral found then off to Sowley for the rays / smoothhounds. Anchored in slack tide and as the tide started to ebb we were into Bream of around 2 to 3 lb size. Then the wind picked up blowing against the tide and no longer flat calm. No more bites after this. Fished for another hour and half and had a heart stopping moment with some idiots in a yacht. They decided to change tack whilst heading straight at us, the wind was working against the tide so their yacht was on a direct course to cut the boat in two They then turned the boat with around 20 ft between them and us and how they missed my anchor rope god only knows. I was ready to jump out the boat it was that close. We are not talking small yacht either - around 50 foot long. After this had a nice choppy ride back to Lymington when we heard there had been a collision between two boats near Hurst Castle ( one was convinced he was going down fast and was calling Mayday on the radio ). I still wondering if it was the same yacht - who knows ? Fortunately the lifeboat got to the sinking boat, which turned out to be not sinking as bad as first feared ( hole was above water line ). So quite an eventful day in all.

Adam, Almost certainly wont be OFF, since this will isolate the "ciggie thingy" from the batteries. In BOTH you will trickle chagre both batteries together. I leave mine switched to BOTH when going out and then switch to 1 battery whilst out, leaving the other for starting if needed ( Never have needed the other ). Once started I then swicth back to BOTH to charge both batteries on way back in.

Neo is up for it depending on dates.
